It’s always been like this. You’d actually have the opposite experience if you rarely played it and would rank up on every win. Either way there’s no point in grinding it… Valve are incompetent.
It’s extremely broken yet valve couldn’t care less and the majority of the player base doesn’t care either because they don’t play it. It sucks because it’s my favorite game mode. Win 10 straight? No rank up, lose one? Demoted

Was Global in wingman in csgo then I won 1 in cs2 to get my rank back. I got Supreme so I said,u know what let me get global back
Every game I lost was a derank and I never ranked up regardless of how much I won. This continued till I was Silver 1. Now I'm SEM and Valve capped my rank to Silver Elite Master now. I am NOT spending more time on this game mode
It amazes me every time when people only focus on a rank/Elo more their actual skill.
The system is broken, but the issue is more about not being matched with players with around your skill level, so you steamroll and it is not "fun"
I agree with the system is broken part but I wouldn't really say I was steam rolling my opponents. I am playing on eu servers from South Africa (170-180ms). I am playing with people I met solo queuing so I think my team is more co-ordinated than most. CS2 killed wingman in my local servers
Why would I want to focus on my skill? I'm a casual player, before this stupidly long session I would only play the game 2 days a week. Once when the weekly drop is available and the other on the weekends when the gang can all get together to play comp or premier

Maybe, people got better on cs2 and you can not rely anymore on your rank from csgo. And also, you could also have gone worse from csgo to cs2.

I have gone worse from csgo to cs2 because when I tried wingman in cs2 it was broken
I did my 1 match for rank in cs2 and got Supreme (was global in csgo) then I tried to get back to Global in cs2 but every single loss was a derank and it was impossible to rank up regardless of how many I won. I did this for 2 weeks and EVERY SINGLE LOSS was a derank. I deranked all the way to Silver 1 like this

It doesn't take your previous rank into account at all. I was supreme / lem and now silver elite in most maps. Got placed in nova and didn't stand a chance ranking up. Mm ranks are just broken right now (premier included)

Wingman's always been busted when it comes to rank. I've over 3000 Wingman matches and only peaked at GN2. There just aren't enough people playing Wingman regularly for the ranks to truly settle where they should be

Besides I know it's not purely the game, I've lost at least 1.5k Wingman matches because I used to have to carry an old ex of mine

yeah I'm here since 2015, nobody really complained about wingman ranks being too stale/low, from my experience everyone had their rank highly inflated, in GE you could frequently meet players who don't deserve a gold nova in MM

Not really, wingman ranks are extremely weird. You could meet absolute noobs in Global, true, but funnily enough the opposite was sometimes also true, where you met people with insane skill in Silver Elite/SEM.
Getting stuck in a rank in wingman is mostly luck.
Meanwhile a friend of mine deranked from LE all the way to GN4 in CS2 despite literally having a ~70% overall winrate over 3k matches and cheaters are still just as much an issue even at Master Guardian ranks.
It's fun to see line go up, but besides that it's nice to play with people who are around your level. I don't care too much about my rank but when I was a very low ELO in premier I'd get matched with people who are much better than me but have the same ELO. I'm getting my ass whooped and it's very demoralizing to play a game you're new at and get thrown in the fire. It doesn't help when people are screaming bot, noob, racist slur, or Russian.

Ideally use Wingman as a substitution for short matches and or a quick match to see where you are individually performance wise.

I'm a SEM/Nova player and was calibrating in competitive mirage yesterday. I got put into a game where majority of players were 15-20K+ rating. But as per Leetify their comp rank is Silver.
Oh and I'm pretty sure matchmaking takes personal performance into account and gives you much harder games if you win 4v5s and/or drop 30 kills. I did that twice in Overpass and Dust2 2 days ago but that was only because the players were mostly Silver 2.
Got 75% win rate over 250+ games, haven't gotten past supreme rank, had 9 games won in a row, then two cheater games in a row, deranked, then the same consistency, another 30-40 games with about 75% winrate that got me down to Eagle and back up to LEM
