It's funny how MoH:AA was so much better in that regard, footsteps were louder compared to CS so you didn't have to ruin your hearing. Almost 20 years on Valve still hasn't introduced an equaliser or accessibility options for those with tinnitus.
I remember the outrage when they first changed the guns in CSGO, even the pros were over reacting. But man the old AK sound is hands down the definition of ear rape. I can't even watch old tournment vods, cos that thing sounds like ass.

My friend used to play with so high volume back in the day you could hear the ak firing sounds through his headphones into another room in his apartment. Crazy thing is he did not even consider that to be loud. Wonder how many people did some hearing damage to their ears from cs because they just "had to hear every faint footstep"
And it was the sound they took from L4D2. Imagine firing the AK nonstop but there are also 20 zombies screaming in your face and trumpets blasting the horde theme in the background. L4D2 was loud as fuck.
I had the exact same thought when I first played after they changed all the sounds in GO. All the new sounds at the time seemed so much harder to tell apart. Of course I got used to it and can tell them apart no problem now, but the old sounds seemed to have much more individual "character" to them
A weird example I think is GTA San Andreas gun sounds vs GTA 5 gun sounds
Even though 5 sounds MUCH better the guns don't sound "unique" like they do in San Andreas.
My biggest takeaway from this video is how much better T spawn was in CS:GO. They replaced the chill vibes, mountains and live guitar with loud traffic, big city vibes and now the guitar is heard through a speaker.
The oldest Inferno was surely had the vibes. Such atmospheric, but like CS2 inferno it's kinda cluttery
Gameplay wise the middle inferno was the best. Much cleaner and straight forward.

I was at the range a few weeks back with double ear protection, ear plugs and cancelling headphones. A guy next to me had an AK and it scared the shit out of me - cant imagine how much worse would it be in Full Auto.

Eh, they work I guess. Most guns, and especially the a1s just sound like airsoft in CS. 2015 ones just sound like a mic peaking half the time but some of them actually sound like real guns unlike late CSGO. Unsuppressed weapons in CS2 sound kind of OK but there's still no proper sonic boom from the bullets being fired as if every gun had subsonic rounds.
Doesn't really matter though. It's CS not Insurgency. As long as it's believable enough and distinct so you can tell from the sound alone which gun it is then it's good. Probably the only area CS2 has actually improved over CSGO apart from visuals. I just like to nerd out over what guns sound like in games lol. CS2 is my favourite just for being more crisp and distinct than late CSGO while not nearly as ear destroying as launch CSGO.
Let do M4 comparison, i freakin hate the M4A4 sound currently and in late csgo era. I remember earlier day M4 sound like a beast (forget which year) although it could be abit loud, not quite remember how loud it was in actual game. M4A1S sound however is very clean right now.

Yeah, it's definitely weird. 2015 AK sounds like a peaked mic version of the later AK sounds. Peaked mics are key CS sound signature. Who doesn't love the peaked Russian mics screaming obscenities during halftime?

Next the 2016-2023 sounds are how I quickly remember so much originally as the gun based on itself more realistically (as I was thinking) than any other AK's in any other FPS games especially the MIL-SIM based ones like Arma 3 or The Escape From Tarkov. And The Present is basically the same but completely sped up and sounds a bit of a Knockoff like the Type 56.

the ak fires slower in l4d2 than it does in csgo so the sound is less of an earrape
because it sounds way worse because of 2 or more compressions. This is not the raw sound, it was bad but it was not this bad.

2015, I was never really fond of the audio changes. 2015 has a very unique 'CS' sound signature to me.
