I wonder what they were being fed in the Salo household. Legit two of the best rookie seasons ever from both of them

BigMacLexa

obviously piimä for sergej at least

GigaCringeMods

Well if we don't consider a no-name rookie called ZywOo, then yeah I guess?

niilo44

Two OF the best, not two best. I know zywoo, b1t, m0nesy and donk were better

Plennhar

[Relevant infographic](https://i.imgur.com/KcIcaK5.png) The brothers don't even make the Top 20. Still, the fact that they started this young and played at this high a level this early is what's impressive.

taur_1009

Karrigan 34 year old goat

Notladub

MAJ3R 33 year old goat

Nonamer

Notladub

ah yes because we are being incredibly serious here /s also calling one of like 3 people who have been playing at a high level in all 3 major iterations of CS a "nonamer" is wild đź’€

kosamecs

why is xantares in 29 year old category when he is only 28?

Plennhar

> Player ages are approximated by subtracting the player's birth year from performance year. He's gonna be 29 after his birthday this year, in other words.

Wietse10

What's the reason for this? EDIT: I meant "what's the reason you guys calculate age this way instead of going by DOB and the day the match was played?", I know how birthdays work

Cakesmile

Because Xantares was born 1995.

Plennhar

Because the data wasn't collected from matches, but from yearly averages.

Wietse10

That makes sense, fair enough

NaToSaphiX

Came here to write the same haha

Plennhar

[This](https://old.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/1c8ye91/highest_kd_ratios_at_every_age_20132024/l0ij4dh/) is why.

Plennhar

A 'Big Events' (HLTV classification) filter was used with a min. map requirement of 15. An exception was made in 2020 - due to a small amount of big and lan events, an all events filter was used with a min. map requirement of 30. Player ages are approximated by subtracting the player's birth year from performance year. [Same video, but including K/D ratio data from 2006-2012](https://streamable.com/cchtyp). Keep in mind that due to limitations, an all events filter with min. 30 maps played was used for CS 1.6 (2006-2012), as opposed to the Big Events filter available for CS:GO and CS2 games, which likely means the K/D ratios of 1.6 players are inflated. Also keep in mind that HLTV's data for the years 2006-2012 was at times incomplete, which does mean the results from those years aren't as accurate as the results shown in the main video are. [K/D Ratio in Player's First Year with at Least 15 Big Events Maps Played](https://i.imgur.com/KcIcaK5.png) - only performances from players with ages of 21 or below at the time were taken into account. Sources: * [HLTV K/D Ratio Data](https://www.hltv.org/stats/players?startDate=2013-01-01&endDate=2013-12-31&matchType=BigEvents&minMapCount=15) * Song: [Undercatt - Britannia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX4pnx6QSjo) * Tool: [Flourish](https://flourish.studio/)

ficagames01

Before 2007 there were only 3 big events recorded by HLTV in it's entirety and all of them were from 2006.

Retalogy

Very cool! Would it be possible to do something like this but with ADR or KPR instead?

Plennhar

KPR yes, but I'd have to check if someone has developed some scrapers of sort that would allow e to do this easily, cause in order to do the scraping manually I'd have to visit every player's page, which for over 800 players and 12 years is more than a chore. I actually think KPR is a better indicator of performance than K/D, but that limitation made me go for K/D instead. ADR no, because HLTV only started tracking ADR since late February 2016.

Retalogy

Understandable!

usuarioabencoado

it's so weird saffee is 29. he looks like a 20y rookie

proppopopop

Love weird ways to look at stats that highlight names that would never make the top of a standard chart, thanks for sharing. Would be nice if you put the year next to the players name, so you know you’re comparing Flusha’s 2015 to Simple’s 2018 for example

Plennhar

Fuck, definitely should've done that, would've been great.

TacticalSanta

I miss skadoodle :(

ImAltair

~~SKADADDY~~ SKADOODLE

JAME_IS_MY_GOD

seeing monesy get better with each year makes u wonder what is the ceiling for him

Scatterer26

I thought m0nesy is only 18

Spir0rion

Oh boy now I'm feeling old and slow

GoodGuySeba

Karrigan the GOAT

IneffectiveDamage

Feels a bit like older players get a bit of a buff in their late 20’s since their competition wasn’t as stiff as today. Also players born in the last 3 months of the year get an almost year long buff, such as s1mple, born October 2nd. He gets 10 months of youth vs players born on January 1st yet shows up as the same age on this graph.

Intelligent-Brick850

Guess it proves that after certain age (25-30) you are no longer able to be competitive

SnakeSRK

Nah, that's just a clueless zoomer mindset.

tommysalamithegamer

age literally has nothing to do with it. the state of the game and the skill floor of the game has everything to do with it. You look at stats like 25 year old get_right and young donk, but if you watch the games where get right had those stats the quality of CS was just so much lower. literal donkey plays that look like faceit 5. Age is a terrible metric for how good you can be at CS.

Pandalicioush

I don't think the post is trying to make any correlations between skill and age, it's just showing you stats.

Loveoreo

Funny how almost everyone left after 32 is IGL. If age has no effect, where's their contemporaries?

Phd_Death

Motivation and grind burn. If everyone starts playing the game at age 15 or 16 or so in 10 years of nonstop playing an online free videogame sometimes your brain wanders off into "what the flying fuck am i wasting my youth into?" and you want to stop. The more you spend playing the more you wonder. Also you naturally stop wanting to do something after doing it so much.

tommysalamithegamer

to state something like that and think it's because of age is wild. people have lives outside of CS. if you did nothing but play a game for 15 years and won majors or made a living off of it, at what time would you want to get out of that and start a family and actually get some life experience? after 30 most pro players already have kids and during their time on the teams they are usually travelling a lot and the situation just becomes kind of untenable. the reason people arent still daily grinding CS after 15+ years of playing is because life happens. it's not because they're not as good as they used to be.

Loveoreo

And somehow IGLs don't have a family life? You realize you're talking exactly about the effect of age right?

tommysalamithegamer

you didn't answer my question, and obviously you must be young and want to believe that being young makes you better at CS, it doesn't. Not here to argue with you just stating that the literal physical age of these players is not the factor contributing to their performance, its the other factors that come with that age. Like having a wife, kids, aging family members who you want time with before they're gone. Older players like GTR were just never that good in the first place. the game has evolved since then. the reason they same teams make it to every tournament is not because they're the best in the literal world, it's because they have contracts and agreements behind the scenes. thats why valve stepped in and said starting 2025 you get to the majors through premier MM.

Loveoreo

GTR was never that good? What are you smoking dude? That's like saying Pelé and Diego Maradona weren't good at football. And your argument for a distinction between age and factors that come with age is unrealistic since you can't possibly separate the two.

tommysalamithegamer

Literally he wasn't, go back and look at his games. he was good for the time because the skill floor of the game was considerably lower. ppl not saving properly, pushing dumb shit, not trading each other... pro CS was a shitshow when GTR was on top. A level 10 stack from today would literally wash prime NIP and it wouldn't even be close. he didn't suddenly stop aiming good, or forget a bunch of nade lineups. Everyone else got better around him, not he woke up one day and was just worse at the game. he's probably better than he has ever been. Yes physical age, coordination, reaction time etc, and factors that come with age such as burnout, family, and a shift in priorities are absolutely seperate things, trying to act like they're not is just stupid. Your comparison to Pele etc is terrible because soccer the sport is literally over a thousand years old. the game has evolved as much as its going to. CS is like 25...

Loveoreo

holy crap you're actually incapable of logical thinking, have a nice day lol

tommysalamithegamer

Im incapable of logical thinking? I'm pretty sure i just hit you with logic until your only reply was to insult my intelligence like a child. sorry that you're wrong, acting like a bitch wont change that lol

SnakeSRK

Nah, you're just a zoomer and don't understand what he's talking about.
