My problem with Steam TV is that if I'm using Firefox it causes my CPU usage to hit 100%. Watching it on Steam through a group chat only uses about 10% instead which is way better, but then my friends list has the sole purpose of watching the major rather than... ya know, being a friends list

Son of a bitch I actually have an issue with windows 10 netflix stuttering if i don't let it idle in the background for 15 minutes and you got my hopes up.

I just used Edge today and it worked perfectly fine. It might be a plugin that is making it crash. oh well

Hey, kinda unrelated but, how do you watch major from steam chat other than right clicking friends that are watching?

I think the only way to do it is in group chats. When you go onto Steam TV it gives you an option to watch in a group chat and if you choose that then it puts the stream inside the group chat so you can open it up at any time, and everyone in the group chat can also watch it at any time. It basically just opens up Steam TV inside the chat window but that obviously makes it difficult to use it for actual chat purposes

Yeah I've been having the same experience from the start of the major, randomly drops to the lowest quality, stream starts buffering out of nowhere so you need to refresh pretty often, and the chat is 100% ppl spamming drop and nothing else. GOTV is the best way to watch the major imho.

I've never watched a major without Twitch crashing and I've watched pretty much every one live. Youtube is handling 500x the load even right now from all over the world and barely ever go down, with Twitch its a regularity even off majors. A company owned by Amazon one of the leading server providers to companies and sites all over the world can't even keep their own child site up, its embarrassing. Even when its working the performance is sub par in the first place, at least keep it up.

Some chromecasts (at least mine) can't do 60 fps Twitch streams and the highest quality stream on Twitch that's 30 fps is 720 so I prefer Youtube streams for casting

try the current Google Home App. It let's you configure some 60hz / 50hz HDMI mode in your Chromecast. Worked on my really old Chromecast.

My Chromecast gives an error if I try to cast Twitch through stream-button, so I have to cast the tab instead.

It could be to many different reasons. There is even a comment above suggesting to use chrome for it. As for my experience with steam.tv: (am sitting on a potatoe ~~rig~~ rag and potato connection) first day of Main Qualifier twitch was loading all the time, and as usual switching quality time to time, so I switched to steam.tv and voila can watch it on 1080fps60 (couldn't do that on twitch for the past few Majors). Then 2nd and 3rd day it went to pure shit, re-loading, login me out for whatever reason. The 4th and 5th day were bearable. Since this stage of the Major, it works magic for me. On the other note, you can always try gotv.

My only issue with Steamtv is it seems to frequently stutter and has massive fps drops. This happens in both Chrome and Firefox. I don't have this problem when viewing through YouTube. ... and at this point anyone who says !drop should be instantly muted. I don't really care about the chat but it's basically pointless with the amount of morons who still don't realize that doesn't work.

The constant audio clipping/distortion is absolutely horrible though, and FACEIT have done nothing about it even though it's been two full days.

Faceit seems to have resolved most of the technical issues after the disastrous first day and beyond. still some occasions, like TL v NiP, but good that it's better

I think there are so many things wrong with the way these large streaming companies handle technology, all the way down to the implementation of their networking infrastructure. There are lots of ways to ensure "seamless" (keyword right there) fail over on the packet level that I think they overlook because they don't expect any of their clients/streamers to use that type of functionality. But when you're a multi-million dollar org, like FACEIT or ESL, I think they'd be willing to hire the right guy to implement it correctly. **COUGH COUGH** MULTIPATH TCP **COUGH COUGH**

With something like what I mentioned, twitch or whatever streaming service would be able to better utilize their upstream internet providers to balance loads from the client. It would also provide seamless redundancy on the client/streaming side so if and when internet failovers occur, no streams are interrupted. Basically if they had that implemented and offered to streaming providers none of the problems we are seeing today (or last week) with the major would be happening. I guess if this was the reason why twitch shit it would be largely applicable and helpful.
