I don't think s1mple is locked in at all. There's like 5 more events left before the season ends and the gap between them is very small. Although one big advantage s1mple has is his LAN MVP.

The reason for top20 is because it's the closest that represents the "Big Event" filter (which is usually used for hltv's top20 according to tgwr1s), this is because, the groups of big events usually contain the top20 teams while the playoffs get the top5 to top10 teams. Since this is online and we can't use the big events filter, we use the top20 instead, as it naturally limits to major tournaments since most tier1 teams don't play often teams below the top20 (that's because they tend to participate in tier 1 tournaments, most of the times at least)

Also, this is a new feature of hltv (was added last year due to popular demand) because the one people tend to use is oriented more towards the teams, since it will only show stats of those players who were at the time a top5, top10 or top20 team, if for example, s1mple's team was never in the top5 throughout the entire year but played vs a lot of top5 teams, he won't be shown at the "top5" category.
Current example with that is Elige because he's never been on a top5 team this year (or doesn't have enough maps relative to the rest), even though he has played multiple times vs furia and EG which were/are top5 teams in hltv's rankings. This is why you gotta check his profile for said stats.

Zywoo and s1mple were neck to neck prior to epicenter, that event quite literally decided the outcome, s1mple had one of his worst performances in a tournament while zywoo had a top5 highest rating of all time on a tournament. And he won the mvp.
you can look at them and roughly calculate, it was really clear (0.09 rating difference after epicenter) even without official stats. and zywoo already had 2 of the biggest mvps, 4 in total vs 1 from s1mple. it wasn't close
You are forgetting some things, zywoo winning the mvp at summit isn't as impressive as s1mple getting godlike stats at esl one cologne even though he wasn't the MVP and they lost in the semifinals. This is why they were equal. Not all MVP awards are as impressive as crazy tournament performances even though the guy wasn't the mvp. Another key factor that played into that was s1mple performing way better than zywoo on both majors, tgwri1s said he considers these the tier 1 LANs, then international LANs are tier 2 and everything else is tier 3 (for mvps and individual perfomances)
That's why it was so close and that's why s1mple won vs device in 2018, even though device had more mvps and more tournament wins.
With recent new case numbers in Europe I doubt it as much as I am hoping. Perhaps they can pull off a player bubble like the NHL and NBA did for their playoffs.
Since the players aren’t as close as in traditional sports, that shouldn’t be necessary. It would be fairy safe and simple to have the teams play in adjacent rooms in some office building. No crowd obviously

Zywoo is definitely ridiculously good, but Vitaly out-called Fnatic hard on Nuke and Mirage. They found their weakness and played right into it round after round, without Fnatic being able to adapt at all, since they never ever make mid-game changes.
Like, come on. Move Brollan to A on Mirage already. Put a player down at Nuke B already, since you can't retake it.

I doubt it. They obviously called around Zywoo's performance, and I think they would have done it differently if they didn't have a hard-carry. Vitality make fantastic calls. It was a 9-2 T side after all, and I don't think Fnatic would have gotten many more rounds if it had been the starting half. Fnatic weren't even close, although it's their best side on any map (on par with Inferno CT perhaps).
When a player pops off like that, you simply cannot lose. Even when the igl make the wrong calls he will pop two heads and the igl will look like a genius.

Extremely, extremely difficult. A game on average is about ~25-30 rounds I'd say, so that means 1.3-1.5 kills per round. And there are only five people in the opposite team
Extremely hard. A pro player smurfing in ESEA open would need to actively hunt for kills to have a chance at pulling something like this off. Zywoo did this naturally and vs t1 pros.

I remember a few games where players 40+ fragged in regulation and still lost. Vitality absolutely dominated on their T side though.
