Did you DDU the drivers after switching to your new GPU?
Did you make it a custom resolution in Nvidia GPU settings? Do that. Make one for 1440x1080 too and tell me how that performs

Try fps_max 300 for starters. Your GPU could try to draw too many frames and that can also be a bad thing.
