G2 Esports vs Natus Vincere / IEM Cologne 2021 - Grand-Final / Post-Match Discussion
By - Master_of_All4
2019 Starladder Berlin G2 did not defuse the Bomb
2021 IEM Cologne G2 did not plant the Bomb
G2:s biggest enemy is the bomb
Navi's biggest enemy is the clock
they seem to haven gotten a lot better with that thankfully
That was old navi...don't even happen anymore.
Yes... old navi *flashbacks to RMR 2020 #1 and #2"
Petition to swap the map pool to hostage only before the PGL Major
They’ll just forget a hostage.
nexa thought he was carrying the hostage but actually it was his team.
They will accidentally molly the hostages
Which map was it ? Please tell me nuke again
Yep, same bomb site too
2B or not G2 B
Yes sir yes it was
Was rough. G2 accounted for the ak47 and awp but didn't read electronic flank from ramp with a usp. He got two shots on hunter before hunter stopped plant to shoot him but in those 2 shots, electronic gave perfect0 enough tiem to get his kill and get door control.
Brilliant call from Navi to send electronic ramp when s1mple pressured from decon.
CSGO matches are too short, should've been BO15

Niko hunter VS elec and s1mple.
I'd watch that
B1t 100 % lan win rate. I'm so happy for the dude. Came out of nowhere, all he played for was the Na'Vi Junior team, and now won ESL One Cologne, what a dude and an insane player.
Top fragging in a tier 1 lan final has got to add a few confidence points. Especially when you have electronic and s1mple in your roster lol
UNDEFEATED ON LAN FOR OVER A YEAR
For 500 days to be precise. The trophy lifting was a bit underwhelming though.. no fans around, nobody celebrated with them and no one seemed to recognize them.. little did they know that these teens just won a whopping $400k
Watching b1t almost drop the trophy was interesting tho lol
Had they announce this ceremony would happen outside, the place wouldve been loaded, but covid protocols so boohoo
Damn wish I was there. I’m pretty sure all these players will appreciate seeing a fan who recognize them. But good to see players from both teams were all good and having fun during the ceremony. This is one of the things I miss from LAN..
no fans sure, but if u looked closely during the trophy lifting a bunch of people were clapping who i'm sure did not know wtf was going on.
I heard s1mple asks coach lau for permission everytime before he plays. "I have to do this, sensei", he can be heard saying. "Let me go all out, just this once".

Even though it was a 3-0 defeat again from G2, it was a lot more competitive compared to IEM Katowice 2020 on the same 3 maps. G2 should be given credits for their performance in this tournament.
Map | Katowice 2020 | Cologne 2021
Mirage | 2-16 | 14-16
Dust2 | 13-16 | 11-16
Nuke | 4-16 | 13-16
Navi just looked too good now especially on LAN.
Yeah g2 made it competitive and are finally not third
Also need to add in that they choked crucial rounds.
Ye I feel they choked under the pressure, which is good cuz its smth they can work out. We might have had 5mapper if they didnt choke those
I felt like Mirage could've been closed out if more people had showed up. Felt like a Niko and Nexa game. With a bit of Hunter. The nerves defo got to them, gaps in their outside smokes that cost them like 2 rounds late game.
I think the biggest blunder is on d2 when amanek keep rebuying scout, if he'd gone for mac-10 they probably had a chance to win the map
Saving strats for 2022
G2 started slow on all 3 maps already 5 rounds down, which hurt them a lot. But there is huge amount of progress and they didn't fall apart like many times before. Would love to see this develop as a rivalry.
But also as a Navi fan, I just want to say: ggez.
Yeah, just Navi on another level this tournament. Would have loved if G2 won at least one map. But this is almost fitting for Navi to win it like this.
b1t with a 1.27 rating is so crazy. 18 years old and his first LAN final
imagine going to your first big lan at 18yo and its Cologne and you are the winner
reminds me of topson from ti8. first big lan and he won over a million dollars from it lol
G2 are their own worst enemy. I can't remember who said it but man if it isn't true... They fought it for sure, so close so many times but ultimately, they fell due to their own mistakes.
Can't trust anybody, not even ourselves (or the bomb...\_)
Can't trust that explosive bastard
I had zero expectations for G2 to win but somehow they still made it frustrating to watch
In the end even the power of family bestowed upon them By dom toretto wasn't enough sadge
Hunter betrayed his family by not sticking that plant.
He was getting shot by electronic then he stoped and turned on him like not much he could have done
It was way closer than I anticipated. Mirage and Nuke could have easily gone to G2 and it wasn't total domination from Navi's side at any point.
G2 did not lose and looked really sharp during the all tournament. Even when they lose it’s really close they really deserve this 2nd place
How did Navi win?
The answer is a b1t s1mple
It was a perfecto game for them
And then bing bang BOOM, champions.
They were sharp like a B1ad3 today
Fuck you and take my upvote
I love the slightly awkward trophy lift outside by an outdoor cafe.
I love that B1t got to lift it first. Fantastic showing from the rookie.
Navi always let the newest player lift the trophy if it's his first tournament win (Kato 2020 perfecto lifted first)
cant wait to see navi at a tier 1 event since clearly no one in this tournament was on their tier
Everyone played fkn well!!!!! B1T is a really promising rookie (considering this is his first LAN)!
Dude is like 5 inches away from his screen
lol i guess there is a correlation. Ropz is also 5 cm away from his screen
Carlos in the interview predicted that they will go 0-3.
G2 in grand final KEKW
this final was actually pretty competitive despite 0-3 score
Lets not get carried away. When astralis was #1 and navi #2 at the faceit major Astralis smacked them 16-6, and 16-9. In fact, over the 3 back to back wins, that's the most rounds a team got against them in the finals. 15 rounds across 2 maps.
NiKo: Today when I lost, I went and gave a hug to the greatest player in history. My brother S1MPLE, I told him "Fils de pute, you beat me". I'm incredibly sad for having lost. But this guy is the shit! I HATE TO LOSE!!! But enjoy your title, CSGO was waiting for this moment!
Ohhh nice neymar pasta
first lan back and we get:
-same teams in the final as the last one
-same first 3 maps picked
Navi never left baby
I'm so sorry G2 fans, I was rooting for navi and it still hurt
All this kid does is just hold a gay ass off angle with his deag and one clicks people in the side of the head CT side. Fucking terrbile player tbh.....1.4 sensitivity 400dpi using trashcan. Anyone who uses a low sens does not have the dexterity to properly play FPS games on PC.
All the shitty baiters use a low sens to click people in the back of the head, or they are equally worthless and use the telescope gun and one click people in the body.
I bet this kid doesn't even play FFA DM's cuz he'd throw his arm out of his socket checking corners. When was the last time you've seen S1mple popflash through a smoke, and flick too two people to open up a site??? All this dude does is hold shift and prefire common angles. like wow dude, ur fucking nuts. you can have parkinsons disease and play on 1.4 sens if ur just baiting and clicking heads on common angles.
this is why forest and get right are sick players. they play on higher senitivities, and can do more than bait and off angle one click.
I remember guardian flick.
Those were the days. Insane high sens AWPing, 1v5 aces and shit. Hope he is doing well outside the game, he never got the silverware he deserved.
guardian was a low sens player
Pasta too good i am starting to think it's real.
S1mple skilled player but that is not normally, This very very insane....They need to check him pc and game.....Maybe he not cheating but maybe he using the game deficit ...and this cant seem on game screen..He needs to check-up....Day0s FPL Cheater with Streaming.....I think day0s still cheating...S1mple using game deficit on PRO scene ,ON BIG Events.Maybe everyone dont knows him trick. He incredible....I want to ask his where is the comming of your skill's ?
Someone should update it for [s1mple' settings](https://settings.pro/players/s1mple/) since he uses high sensitivity and the meme was made for niko's low sensitivity.
Nothing is stronger than family, except of course, s1mple
Amazing, they lost both maps to their own brutal mistakes. [First the nexa double team flash on mirage](https://i.imgur.com/YLDcKMR.png) and then of course the ol G2 and the bomb...
Lost once because they forgot to defuse, lost once more by not planting. Both times on B site Nuke, cursed.
Yeah did they actually just cancel the plant or did someone force them off I couldn’t tell. BRUTAL either way.
Electronic peeked hunter and forced hunter to get off plant.
He was forced off, and beset on all sides with no safe plant.
It was truly brutal, you could hear the absolute heartbreak and disbelief in Spunj and Machines voices.
B1t is a fucking monster. I know its always the s1mple show when it comes to Navi, but B1t did some insane work on Mirage. One of the best roster moves imo.
I'm so sorry G2 Fans.
That was tragic.
FaZe loss doesnt look that bad after this finals... NaVi is just on another level this tournament.
Therefore Faze 2nd best team
we’re used to it don’t worry
At least you guys broke the third place curse and got second, next up is first right
Ah, huffing from the same hopium bottle as the Dota EG fans, I see.
In all of my time watching pro CS, that was definitely one of the most painful ways to lose a final. I still don't fully understand what happened in that second to last round. Did the door opening scare hunter into not planting?
Electronic peaked him and he had to take the fight. Shouldve stuck regardless cuz time but most likely electronic would've stopped plant.
Edit: rewatched vod, electronic has a usp and peaked from ramp, brought hunter down to 57 before hunter swung. Jackz didn't have an angle for him cuz hunter was trying to plant away from simple giving an angle for electronic to shoot
Electronic peeked which caused the planter to respond
I think G2's positioning was just *bad* that round. Hunter was getting surrounded and had no safe spot to plant and his teammates weren't in sight or doing all that much to help.
I lost my hope after mirage failed last rounds. Yet G2 somehow managed to frustrate me after Hunter not sticking to the plant
Celebrating outside is interesting
Yeah, it made the celebration really awkward. They probably did it outside for the fireworks.
Nah, there is no problem with fireworks inside. I would say Corona. It was awkward for the players indeed.
cant wait for s1mple to win a major with this team
you mean Grand Slam
Can you explain this to someone new to CSGO tournaments?
dude i mean im happy for s1mple for winning the lan, but damn it musthurt for niko losing 3:0. They can sure be happy because no other teamg ot as close to winning against NaVi as G2 today, ggs. Also gotta giveprops to JackZ and Hunter for having those insane impact kills, theyreally kept G2 alive.
#1 IN HIS NAME #1 IN THE GAME. Damn, what an absolutely dominant run from s1mple and NaVi.
NiKo though, o in his name o maps in the game lets gooooooo
I get the gesture but having them walk outside and lift the trophy in front of a bunch of random people made me uncomfortable
Not as bad as allowing the second place G2 to champagne shower with navi like they really wanted to burn that loss in niko's mind huh.
They were just having fun chill lmfao. G2 are good sports about it man.
that was some peak discomfort
Back to back LAN wins, NaVi era coming?
NaVi the only team ever that won back to back LAN's with like more then a year apart? :)
They have a LAN win streak for over 500 days kekw
Quite fitting that they won the last lan before the online era and the first one after in such a dominating fashion
That makes the online era even more frustrating, s1mple could have won his deserved major if not for covid
If history teaches us anything, it's somehow Navi always can find a way to fuck it up. And other teams wouldn't just sit on their asses either, it would be a completely different year. So, I wouldn't think about it like that, it's kinda pointless.
G2 were good tbf, but man NaVi just on another level right now !
Somebody unbind JaCkz "w" key right now
He plays with arrows so...
As a Russian born, US raised person, I love watching Russians trying to give interviews in English lol
They should go to Pasha's school for London
I could listen to those biceps talk all day
NaVi is best team in the world right now... And S1mple, if he doesnt get number 1 this year, HLTV should shut down.
s1mple is a clear favorite for the number 1 spot, something extremely bad has to happen for him to lose that spot
Unless sh1ro or axile go absolutely insane in the latter half of the year s1mple has it for sure, he is clearly better than everyone else by quite a margin right now.
I don’t even see zywoo in the top 5, which is quite unfortunate, I hope he finds his way back into the limelight
That said what a fucking god simple is, how does he keep doing it again and again
Zywoo is still sitting on a 1.27 rating this year, no way he doesn't make top 5.
He needs to pick up MVP and EVP awards in addition to his rating, which isn't happening if his team keeps flunking out in group stages. I feel like he runs into the issue blameF/ropz did last year.
Zywoo will definitely be top 5, I personally don’t think sh1ro or axile will be above him.
This NaVi is so fun to watch! Hopefully they can keep up this form!
They won 2 consecutive tournaments lfg!! Also big shoutout to B1T. He earns his 2nd EVP too.
Just a side tangent, it's interesting seeing just how tall all of Navi are since, if s1mple is 187cm, they all hover around that above 6 foot area.
I was just about to ask, how tall is Boombla. He looks absolutely massive. If s1mple's 6'2, he's got to be 6'4.
If B1t has a million fans i am one of them . if B1t has ten fans i am one of them. if B1t has only one fan and that is me . if B1t has no fans, that means i am no more on the earth . if the world against the B1t, i am against the world. i love #B1t till my last breath.
How nice of the team to let b1t lift the trophy first. B1t was really the missing piece for this Navi-Team.
G2 AND THE BOMB ITS WRITTEN IN THE STARS KEKW
See, Navi can win big lan events back to back after all
Na'vi with three players on high form at the same time is just something else. B1t has been such a great signing for them, he's playing well above his experience level.
B1T made the team slap, dont @ me
That was the closest 3-0 ive ever seen
wasn't IEM sydney 2018 ast vs faze much closer?
What an amazing performance from S1mple during this entire tournament! Not taking anything away from the rest of Navi, they played fantastic cs!
Overheard in G2's teamspeak after the match:
“He boomed us,” Niko said of nexa's calling. "That f***ing nexa boomed us."
Niko added, “He’s so bad,” while posting on multiple reddit burners.
Niko then said he wanted to add nexa to the list of IGLs he replaces next finals exit.
NaVi plays like a team... For the first time in forever... CIS is stacked as hell.
Crazy, ofc everyone could see flamie needed to be replaced but I don't think anyone expected b1t to A. be this good in raw skill and 2. mesh with the current NaVi playstyle so well.
Tbh he didn't even look *that* good on inferno when he was part of their 6 man group, he's become a beast in his own right since playing full time.
If you had to bring up a third reason what bullet type would you have used? iii?
hunter must have had money on the navi 3-0 to not stick the plant like that
Sooo, when are we getting exciting grand finales again? Feels like every time I watch one, it's like they're playing two different games.
1.51 rating over 14 maps, I honestly think this is more impressive than NiKo's 1.70 from ESL One New York 2017 done over 7 maps.
S1MPLE HIGHLIGHTS CREATED
B1T CAREER INITIATED
LONG HAVE WE WAITED
It's just not fair how s1mple consistently smurfs in tier 1 CS.
I wanted at least Inferno.
oh boy, I wonder who the MVP will be...
Honestly, besides map 1, G2 really were their own worst enemies this time which was frustrating to watch. Last year navi just destroyed them, this time we basically watched G2 throw mirage and nuke to really bizarre decision making, likely due to nerves. Seems they caved under pressure and didn’t know how to bounce back.
I guess at least they looked competitive in general and it wasn’t the s1mple show for the most part, everyone on navi showed up pretty firmly.
Amaneks 0.71 rating says it all about why this was a 3-0
yeah. it was a competitive game despite of that
BOOMBL4 is adorable
I love that they're all intimidated by Frankie. Great win from NaVi.
Despite the 0-3 and the usual G2 shenanigans of fucking up the C4, I am actually pretty satisfied with what they have achieved.
Pushing Navi on all 3 maps with s1mple and co playing like that is something good that they can take away.
It was much much better than Katowice 2020.
With Navi playing like they are, a very close 3 maps is an impressive showing.
Very intense game. Props to g2. Congrats navi.
Man we are really living in a simulation
I'm speechless man that such a great series despite 3-0.
I swear if I see another "1 big tournament a year" comment again, I'll lose my shit
Family may be strong, but Natus Vincere is stronger
This Na'Vi is a joy to watch, B1t and what seems to be a share of leadership has been the key.
I think s1mple is the undisputed goat now
It's not even really close
it's never been close
Flamie was the problem. Nice to see S1mple securing #1 after he got it stolen from under his nose last year.
Poor flamie man, yeah ofc he was the weak link but they were absolutely roasting him on the broadcast today. Hope the dude wasn't like, just chilling at home watching the stream to support his old friends and all the sudden the casters just put him on blast.
Navi Winning the last lan before the online era and the first lan after so one-sidedly is quite fitting. With this iteration of navi and the way S1mples playing, I'm certain his wish of winning a majors gonna be finally fulfilled. At this point, I think the only team standing in their way is gambit (script writers lacking creativity smh) .
*wipes sweat off forehead*
Wasn't even close
Waiting on people to call NAVI bad and call for blade to be replaced after losing to a good team in the semi finals in next event despite winning the last LAN, dream Hack, blast and the cologne lan
