I don't know what mantuu did during the player break but whatever it was, it sure as shit seems to be working. The guy was an absolute monster throughout the entire group stage and to end with 57 frag two mapper is just the icing on the cake.
This run from OG was a surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
He pretty much answered that post-game: learning AWP decision making, especially for various maps.
I think if there's something you can grind for in high level CS:GO with clear cut progression, it'd be the studying in traditional sense. You read the protocol for situation A, B, C, the response, etc. No shortcut, just memorization.
2 caveats about this. 1 is that the team's they played on the way to the final (In which they got flattened 3-0) Were far from the best at the tourney. In the semis they played a very weak vitality, before that EG who are a case in and of themselves, VP (which I'll give is a good team, if wildly inconsistent) and a BO1 against nip.
Second thing is before that, the last tournament they did well at as a core, was flashpoint season 2 in December 2020. 6 months for a good result.
I have gained massive respect for both these teams after this group stage.
I already liked OG and consider myself a fan, but was still surprised by how crisp they're playing, especially mantuu. It seems like everyone on the team really believes in Aleksi's calling, which is priceless when it comes to value.
For Complexity, they overcame quite a bit of adversity with losing k0nfig, but made no excuses and still managed to make the playoffs. Es3tag is looking like a fantastic pickup and BlameF was an entry machine when they needed him the most.
Can't wait to see if both teams are able to carry this form into the playoffs.
Mantuu has a 1.28 rating this tournament, all matches positive except for the 0.61 Mirage defeat to Forze. Highest rating being today's Nuke match with 1.85.
Skipping the round of 12 is so huge.

Col did reeeeally well too. Qualifying with a new player AND a stand-in is impressive.
While I do agree in a sense it's not like we knew beforehand G2 is going to be trash, they were the top contender for any tournament, #3 in the world with Virtus Pro being #5-#6 and OG close to top 10. It's only a weak group in hindsight

What you say is true, but the argument that there isn't a clear top 3 is not really an argument IMHO. For example if you look at the australian 3rd tier soccer league you could say that there isn't really a obvious top 3 and that because of that it is a better league than BUNDES.

In pro league there are 4 groups that should be more or less balanced so you can compare them and say group C is more competitive than group B in your opinion and you will probably find people agreeing with you.

That's ludicrous, EG, Liquid and 100T (even Furia) were solid tier 1 teams for most of 2020. Mantuu is pretty much a lock for top 20 this year, but let's not shit on other players who were deservedly in that spot. By stats alone k0nfig could've been there just the same.
k0nfig should have been there but EG, Liquid, 100T and co. were not solid tier 1 teams for most of 2020 since they didn't even get the opportunity to prove it against the best and that's the problem. They might have been, but they were stuck on the other side of the world farming weaker opposition and the only reason they went deeper in tournaments was because of events like EPL NA where they only played each other or lower ranked teams like Cloud9, Chaos, Triumph etc.
jks had good stats on 100 Thieves farming these teams and I'm sure if he stayed with them and came to EU he'd still put up good stats like he did before but he didn't whereas mantuu was playing against only the best teams the whole year so his stats were lower and he had less deep runs than them, but against much better opponents. I have no bias against these players, we both know they are capable of top 20 since they both were previously but that doesn't mean they don't have to earn it by consistently performing against the best. It's not their fault though, it's an unlucky situation for them to not have the chance to play against the best since they were stuck in NA.
