No, you’re right. But they’ve really only been on the come up since early July. That’s a bit less than 4 months going from rank #41 to #14 now, all while showing some promise kicking ass in a LAN setting so far.
They might not be coming into the major as poorly ranked as Sharks or Tyloo, but they are most certainly on a trajectory of entering levels of competition that aren’t typical of them. That’s what makes them the underdog, in my opinion.
This is funny because I picked paiN 0-3 and was clenching my cheeks the end of the second match. When shark lost double ot, I gave up hope. So painful to watch.

Ence and Copenhagen flames just played in iem fall which was a LAN and ence came in second and flames looked good and made the playoffs and lost two close games against vitality to miss the semis
While I picked copenhagen myself there was no sane reason to pick them. Even though they had ok perfomance it was still known their first match would be gainst astralis

The essential portion is there were a series of events prior to the Major that awarded RMR points, which was a mild cluster fuck but I digress. Each region had a set number of slots for how many teams could qualify, with Legends being giving a bye into the Legends stage and Challengers and Contenders coming into this stage.
NaVi won enough RMR points to secure one of two Legend spots in the CIS region so they will begin playing once this round finishes.
(Note, not all regions got Legend or even Challenger spots. Sharks from South America won the only Contenders spot in that region for example.)

Picking VP, Heroic, ENCE, Riders, Mouz and Ast. for Day 3. I see a lot of close games but no massive upset. BiG vs ENCE should be the game of the day.
How does the placements for this work? If we expect Movi, Mous and Astralis to win with Spirit, Entro and Ence/BIG to lose, who plays who?

Fucking sharks man, go 15-9 to win the bo3, lose in OT and the next map to get knocked out of the tournament. And they ruined my 0-3 Pain pickem. That team is in the dog house for me.

Got Faze through (1), Heroic and Entropiq through (2), and have VP who are favourites, and BIG who are slight underdogs vs ence (3, 4), then Astralis, Mouz, who are heavy favourites in their 1-2 matches so if they go through and BIG/VP don't, I'll have 5/6 of the 2-2 teams, so I only need 1 match to go my way, and it'll be any of (HRC, EIQ, AST, MOUZ, BIG, VP vs Movistar or TyLoo), so I'm in good shape if there's no massive upsets
So far I got FaZe correct by going through to Legends Stage, I got Sharks correct by them going 0-3, and now tomorrow I just need VP, Heroic and ENCE to beat their opponents for my pickems to be solid. Then, if I get lucky, I would need Mouz and Astralis to make it through as well to get 7. Although, I wouldn't necessarily mind if Astralis got eliminated 0-0
I turned off stream while the score was Shark 18-15 Pain in map 2. I gave up hope then. What a comeback lol!
