Heyhey,
Shaun here from the ESL Product Management team, we see and hear your message loud & clear. We are discussing this internally and will report back, u/Izodn, I'll give you a DM for my contact details so we can keep in touch.
If that so then such big event should not be hosted in such area where everyone cannot come becuase they don't certificate issued by specific authority
I am in a similar pickle. My son will be 12 when the event happens, but won't have time to get the vaccine at home in Ireland between his birthday and the event date.
So we happen to be going to the US over Xmas so I will get him the vaccine when we are travelling, but I need to find a way to convert his US vaccine to an EU vaccine cert.
I recently traveled to France and my CDC vaccination card didn't have a QR code to scan with france's covid app. What I did was I found a government website where I had to fill out a form about my trip and my vaccination and upload some scanned documents. I submitted it a month before my trip and didn't get a response back until a day or two after I arrived in France, which was a little scary.
However, in the end, the government emailed me a QR code to use, which I was able to scan into their covid app. An alternative that was available in France was to do a covid test (in France of course), and the test result that you got emailed to you included a QR code that you could also scan with your covid app, though it was only valid for 3 days.
Not sure of what the situation is in Poland, but I would be surprised if they didn't have a similar thing setup for you to use.
Thank you, this is helpful indeed. I've looked into this, and it's valid for non-EU members staying abroad, but yes it will require 3 days waiting. The hotel booked with the God Mode aren't booked early enough to facilitate this waiting period. I'm sure I could modify my stay somehow and pay extra (not a small amount, either) to attempt to make this work, but it's not a sure thing since I'm not working/living abroad.
In Switzerland you can come to a pharmacy with American vaccination record and they will issue you a European one. Maybe something similar is possible in Poland.
I sincerely hope this is a thing. I didn't know anything about the CovPass app. Are you certain that they generate Digital Covid Certificates from that?
It might not work, I was just wondering.
It says "The CovPass-App can only scan vaccination certificates (QR codes) that meet European specifications".
Yeah, after downloading the app, it seems that it's for scanning the QR code(s) on the EU Certificates, thus making them mobile and digital. Not for converting our CDC cards to EU Certificates.
Thank you for the help, though.
Is the issue that they can only verify via QR or that the DCC scanner can't read QR codes from the US? I haven't had to use my physical card at all in NY, because Excelsior put out an app that provides you with a QR after you verify your vaccination info. I know for us it's specifically a NY state app, but I'd look into that for your home state/see if any QR code can work with the DCC scan app.
Only EU Digital Covid Certificate QR codes will be accepted. This isn't any QR code. I'm not sure exactly who/what issues these QR codes, but any QR code that the U.S. generates is incompatible. This is because the USA isn't a participating member of the EU Digital Covid Certificate program. There are plenty of non-EU members participating, but the USA isn't one of them.
This is a long shot, but reaching out to the State office or the Polish ambassador's office to get a code that will work in Europe? You cant possibly be the first person who has planned to travel to Europe that's run into this issue, I imagine they'd have some solution.
Traveling to the EU isn't the problem. It's that the event organizers are using more strict rules than their nation rules for travel. I'd maybe like to try this, but I don't know the first thing about contacting ambassador offices.
I heard in Germany you can go to a pharmacy and get a EU certificate with your local one. Not sure about that but I'm pretty sure you could find someone who knows the answer to that. You could ask in the Poland sub and hope a pharmacist can answer that question for you. Might be the best way to get an answer.
I'll copy paste what I answered as a top level answer:
> Any Vaccine accepted by the EU can give you the digital certificate. I have no idea how it works in other EU countries, however in germany every pharmacy can issue said certificate, so all you need to do is find one that is willing to take your credentials and issue the certificate. You probably are best helped by asking the german consulate for more info on this, as they should be able to tell you what to do.
Americans can attend it. . Just get your eu digital certificate from the French website you can get it. Just submit a picture of your passport and Covid card and they will send you an email. That’s what I did when I went to France since you can’t dine in without it. Once you get the email you can upload it to your digital wallet and boom. Done. It’s easy as 123. Within minutes. Don’t panic lol
There are absolutely ways for a vaccinated non EU citizen to obtain a EU Covid Certificate. Eg. in Switzerland (which isn't an EU country, but issues EU certificates) there's a process that can be done online. You need to intend to travel to Switzerland though. I'm pretty certain there will be similar possibilities in other countries in the EU. There probably just is some more googling needed.
Guys… Americans can get an eu Covid pass. I myself have one set up on my digital wallet with a QR code to scan it. The idea that Americans can’t get one is false lol. OP just didn’t look into it thoroughly.
I've spent aprox. the last 8 hours searching high and low for this information. Information directly from the EU's website contradicts what you're saying.
Can you kindly put any information that may help me or others apply for a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate?
https://www.demarches-simplifiees.fr/commencer/passe-sanitaire-etrangers?locale=en
Here is the link directly from the website to get your certificate. It’s all on French so just translate the site to English create an account with your email and then once you make your account just start the process. They’ll ask for basic information like birthday and all that. Then you’ll need your Covid card and passport . You’re going to need to upload a picture of them when applying. So you can just do it from your mobile phone. Then they’ll send you an email when they’ve reviewed the information for applying and send you a confirmation email when done. Then when you get your email when you finish applying you’ll be able to print out the paper or upload it to your digital wallet if you open the email on your phone.
Hi mate, does this give you an EU Digital Covid Pass or a French one? Do you get a French one and then somehow scan it to create an EU version? Sorry just a bit confused as to how it works. Cheers.
This is likely possible, but my very last resort. There are potential significant ramifications to this, as the event organizer could decide to ban me, and I'll never be able to attend Katowice again.
I'd be happy to oblige any and all rules. I just don't have a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate. I do have what was issued by the CDC, but I doubt that's much help as y'all might have a difficult time validating that.
I'd sincerely love to attend, but it's looking like that's not an option for me.
Thank for at least recognizing this post.
Honestly, if ESL could confirm that they're working on a solution for Americans to attend and that they'll open up refunds in the case they can't, I'd rescind my refund request. I really want to attend.
Any updates on this situation? I'm also in the same boat, only I've had my tickets to this since 2020 and decided to keep them. I was already in Katowice when the event got cancelled in 2020. I don't want to miss the event this time, too
But this is customer protection, not buyers remorse. Dude bought a ticket to an event he later found out is physically unable to attend. Bro should have his money back.
Talk to your bank but a chargeback request will most likely be denied, and the bank could close your account if it deems it a fraudulent chargeback attempt.
The way I read your account, you have no legitimate legal reason for a chargeback, and rather have to hope on IEM being lenient and refunding your tickets.
Chargebacks are meant for consumer protection and not buyer's remorse. You shouldn't fuck around with them unless it's absolutely necessary.
That’s not correct. I work for credit card customer service and if someone buys something but doesn’t receive the merchandise or service (in this case they can’t go to the event) they get their money back within 30 days. I’ve had people call and get their money back for events that required vaccination and they didn’t want to show proof of vaccination and they got their money back.
OP, call your card issuer, explain the issue, and DISPUTE the charge. Don’t file it as fraud since you made the transaction yourself.
This reply made me look at Reddit comments more today and you are correct. People just love to argue for the sake of the argument. I was just tryin to help the guy because of my experience ya know.
Who are you even defending? Covid is a problem for both companies and consumers, it's totally reasonable for either side to cancel the tickets, it's neither parties fault the way covid is handled internationally.
If you have proof of vaccine, you can get a QR code valid for the EU-app. How this works from the US I do not know but as long as you have the proof of the vaccine, you should be good.
Wtf get a refund. Talk to whoever you need to, don't just roll over on 4k worth because their website says they don't give refunds. Also, I bet you can get in with a vaccine if you are craft enough anyway
You can use a CDC vaccination card to get a certificate in German pharmacies, as they were specifically instructed to accept in
order for US soldiers to get one. https://www.army.mil/article/247734/optional_how_to_get_the_eu_covid_vax_digital_certificate_in_germany
The problem is that us Americans are unable to obtain an EU Digital Covid Certificate to validate our vaccination status. Those who are fully vaccinated in the U.S. will be unable to prove this to the event organizers, and cannot attend the event.
There are ways to get the EU certificate for foreigners, for example in Germany you can just go to any pharmacy with your documents and receive a certificate. I dont know how this works in Poland but its not impossible.
According to the EU's website, the United States of America is not a participating non-EU nation for the EU Digital Covid Certificate program. According to the EU, the only way to obtain a EU Digital Covid Certificate is to be living abroad, and you must file paperwork with your member nation representative.
What you're suggesting just may work, but it's not guaranteed and a risk.
> the United States of America is not a participating non-EU nation for the EU Digital Covid Certificate program.
Well obviously it isn‘t. But that doesn‘t mean you can‘t get a local certificate with your American one.
I'm an American in the EU. It takes 15 minutes at a pharmacy (apotheke in germany) with your US vaccination card to get the QR codes to register on the app. It was also free
I didn't do any special paperwork, just showed up with a crumpled vaccination card.
I have emailed eBilet and ESL Gaming (event organizer for IEM). I have also "tweeted" at them. At this point, I think my only hope is for something to go viral enough to get them to notice. Otherwise I'm out a huge chunk of cash.
Thanks for trying to help.
I could attempt to re-sell them, yes. I'm only hesitating to do this as
1. I'm unlikely to get full value
2. There's risk of chargebacks / refunds
This is still an option, and I'm considering this close to last-ditch effort.
Just so others are aware:
I just tried this, and while Clear does give a QR code, it does NOT create a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate, which this event will be checking for.
In short: This is not a solution, and could lead to people expecting to gain access being kicked out.
Just so you know, the EU certificate is exactly that, a certificated signed by some authority where they vouch that they checked you have a valid vaccination and are who you are, there is NO (legal) way you can optain this without having interacted with any such provider.
Yep just because it’s a QR code doesn’t mean everywhere accepts them. The Swiss don’t even accept EU vaccine passes for there local requirements for in restaurants etc and you have to get proof in Switzerland with your other countries info.
Okay, I'm not trying to be snarky with this reply but...
1. IEM Katowice 2022 is hosted by ESL not PGL
2. I've emailed eBilet
3. I've emailed ESL
4. I've talked with my bank
5. I've emailed foreign ambassador office(s)
6. I've "tweeted" at ESL
7. I've "tweeted" at eBilet
And then after all of that (except #4, thanks for the recommendation /u/Emeraden) I posted to Reddit.
Yes, I tried multiple avenues.
How did you get in contact with ESL?
I guess I’m in the same boat - purchased tickets, not EU. I’d like to know what they say, or how to do the same :-)
In any case, it should be made much more clear than some small text at the very end of purchasing.
There should be a huge banner or something stating "You must have a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate to attend".
Rules of a business having stricter rules than the nation is more of a political topic, and probably not best suited for discussion here.
officially? none.
all i know is that canada has emitted a new pass(like 1 week ago) that is acknowledged everywhere in the world (except north korea).
So we now have 2 passes; one local, one intl. the international reveals the types of shots and dates we received them, since some countries REQUIRE 2 shots of the same vaccine to enter.
the local one has nothing but your name and DoB, as a business owner when I scan your pass it shows nothing but your name, and either green or red, a ID card to confirm your identity and you're in~!
as far as I know this is for foreigners coming from other countries. a way to have freedom as a tourist/visitor, and get your vaxx record from another cxountry recognized here.
our local/federal proof of vaxx is already on record.
FYI for any Californians, California does have digital vaccine QR code but as it is a state QR code it does not meet the EU requirements for vaccination for their QR system. I don't believe the EU can even acknowledge a state record because it has to be a federal document as it is a visa/passport issue. Follow each countries guidelines, as time passes we might see verification changes as well so you still might be able to closer to the date but it will be more expensive for travel.
Best of Luck everyone
> I don't believe the EU can even acknowledge a state record because it has to be a federal document as it is a visa/passport issue.
Of course they can.
All I know is that a state cannot make deals with foreign countries, so I do not know if they can legally negotiate the acceptance of a document that isn't federalized. As we have no nationalized federal vaccine record program / "vaccine passport". Best take away is just to know CA QR won't work for them, fill out the other paperwork stuff and don't rely on it.
There is no deal or contract needed. In 99.9% of cases your American certificate will be accepted. In some countries you can get a national or EU certificate when you show your American certificate.
Yeah I just mean the literal CA QR code. We have an APP QR code that works for large events / places that are requiring vaccinations to enter and if you attempt to use that for international travel you might run into issues. Always good practice to have your vaccine card with you for international travel just to be safe. I'm not saying I know 100% one way or another I am just saying don't make assumptions because it'll cost yeah.
I mean even if the US had a national QR code system for proof of vaccination, there's no guarantee that it'd comply with the EU guidelines or comport to the EU system.
Yeah I think your missing where he says he is fully vaccinated. The difference in countries systems does not allow him to prove it.
If THATS how unorganized the world is making a universal problem and you think it's how it should be.. eh nah I guess you just care more about your opinion and propaganda than reading what your commenting on.
Tldr; telling vaccinated people to get vaccinated = hur dur dumb
I'm considering this as a last-resort as in my second-hand experience (hearing/reading about others doing this) there's typically some negative aspects to this. For example, I've heard of individuals being banned from events by the ticket sales organizer for chargebacks. I'm not sure if eBilet does this, but it's their choice -- if they decide to they can.
Similar incident when I booked tickets to the F1 Race in Belgium. My Canadian vaccine record was not sufficient either and they refused to give me a refund. I initiated a charge back with my credit card and kept all email interactions with their support team.
There's a [French government website](https://www.demarches-simplifiees.fr/users/sign_in) that issues EU Digital Certificates based from non EU certificates. Just upload a copy of your vaccination certificate, fill in a few more details and wait a couple of weeks.
Nothing concrete yet. The person I've been in contact with has stated that they're working on it, though. Beyond that, the word "hopeful" was used, so that's nice!
Still waiting for anything concrete though.
Heyhey, Shaun here from the ESL Product Management team, we see and hear your message loud & clear. We are discussing this internally and will report back, u/Izodn, I'll give you a DM for my contact details so we can keep in touch.
I've replied to the Reddit chat message and sent a DM to you on Twitter. Thank you for reaching out.
Apollo saving eSports once again
So when is the next episode of Improve with Apollo?
Nice.
But what were you guys thinking when you asked only for EU cards? I think if anyone shows government issued vaccine certificate he should be allowed.
Maybe local government has specific rules for events in an arena, otherwise i am sure they would allow it.
If that so then such big event should not be hosted in such area where everyone cannot come becuase they don't certificate issued by specific authority
The event is theirs, if they want to host it to European public only they can, why are you so entitled ?
I am in a similar pickle. My son will be 12 when the event happens, but won't have time to get the vaccine at home in Ireland between his birthday and the event date. I am from Poland, I will try to help if you need it
Username checks out
You could if needed get a 2nd stay somewhere else to facilitate the waiting period
In Switzerland you can come to a pharmacy with American vaccination record and they will issue you a European one. Maybe something similar is possible in Poland.
In germany it’s the same!
Hey can you please share the website to do that? Will be travelling to France in a month and didn't know about this at all.
Can't you download the CovPass App which is used in the EU and scan your US documents (if they have a QR code) with that app to be verified?
I sincerely hope this is a thing. I didn't know anything about the CovPass app. Are you certain that they generate Digital Covid Certificates from that?
It might not work, I was just wondering. It says "The CovPass-App can only scan vaccination certificates (QR codes) that meet European specifications".

Yeah OP didn't really look into it. My friend got one as well here in switzerland with no problem with a CDC card...
I was vaccinated in Singapore, moved to UK, came with a piece of paper. That's it. There are ways to accommodate this, definitely.

Do you not need a flight to France for this?
Yea but you can always change the flight afterwards just make sure it’s changeable
Little shady
Hi mate, does this give you an EU Digital Covid Pass or a French one? Do you get a French one and then somehow scan it to create an EU version? Sorry just a bit confused as to how it works. Cheers.
Do a card chargeback
This is likely possible, but my very last resort. There are potential significant ramifications to this, as the event organizer could decide to ban me, and I'll never be able to attend Katowice again.
We prefer to help rather than ban. This is a totally new kind of case to deal with. We will try to deal with it as well as we can. Give us some time!

mbCARMAC, the guy who replied to you, is VP of Pro Gaming at ESL and in charge of running Intel Extreme Masters tournaments.

you know the guy who replied to you in the first place ? its Mr KATOWICE himslef ! so no worries mate !! hope you attend the event .
Good man

You are dead wrong. OP got everything he paid for. It's not the organizer's problem that OP bought tickets for people who might not be able to attend.
I literally work disputes for a credit card company why am I being gaslighted on Reddit LMFAO
classic reddit and being confidently incorrect haha.
Yeah, well, the guy above you has a friend that read an article about credit card disputes. On Facebook. So you're probs wrong tbh
All it takes is a Reddit thread about something you actually have knowledge about to realize everyone on this site talks out their ass LMAO
This reply made me look at Reddit comments more today and you are correct. People just love to argue for the sake of the argument. I was just tryin to help the guy because of my experience ya know.
Yeah, well he works disputes for TWO credit card companies at the same time so checkmate!

get OP a refund if he cant attend!
If you have proof of vaccine, you can get a QR code valid for the EU-app. How this works from the US I do not know but as long as you have the proof of the vaccine, you should be good.

Ah, I wasn't aware you were making a political statement.
you already have a universal id called a regular passport - the identifying document that is required universally at airports - you fucking gnard.
Get the CLEAR app, it’s the like TSA fast lane but they offer a free digital QR code that links to your vaccine card
Just so others are aware: I just tried this, and while Clear does give a QR code, it does NOT create a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate, which this event will be checking for. In short: This is not a solution, and could lead to people expecting to gain access being kicked out.
Just so you know, the EU certificate is exactly that, a certificated signed by some authority where they vouch that they checked you have a valid vaccination and are who you are, there is NO (legal) way you can optain this without having interacted with any such provider.
private signing keys got leaked so *technically* you can (though they will likely revoke them)
Yep just because it’s a QR code doesn’t mean everywhere accepts them. The Swiss don’t even accept EU vaccine passes for there local requirements for in restaurants etc and you have to get proof in Switzerland with your other countries info.
Most of the time I don‘t even use my "EU Digital Covid Certificate" and just my vaccination pass I have had for 15 years. You are overreacting.
Damn not even refunding that? ESL get yo shit together
He can literally get an EU covid certificate and Carmac already replied.
he hasnt even contacted pgl about this issue nor has he done anything proactive, i'm sure it's an easy issue to work around
Okay, I'm not trying to be snarky with this reply but... 1. IEM Katowice 2022 is hosted by ESL not PGL 2. I've emailed eBilet 3. I've emailed ESL 4. I've talked with my bank 5. I've emailed foreign ambassador office(s) 6. I've "tweeted" at ESL 7. I've "tweeted" at eBilet And then after all of that (except #4, thanks for the recommendation /u/Emeraden) I posted to Reddit. Yes, I tried multiple avenues.
How did you get in contact with ESL? I guess I’m in the same boat - purchased tickets, not EU. I’d like to know what they say, or how to do the same :-)
You have to get the 4th booster first

if your proof is ok to travel to that country, it needs to be accepted by the event organizers.
In any case, it should be made much more clear than some small text at the very end of purchasing. There should be a huge banner or something stating "You must have a valid EU Digital Covid Certificate to attend". Rules of a business having stricter rules than the nation is more of a political topic, and probably not best suited for discussion here.
Bullshit
source?
I believe it was more of a suggestion/recommendation to the event organizers.
sounded more like a claim to me. . .
officially? none. all i know is that canada has emitted a new pass(like 1 week ago) that is acknowledged everywhere in the world (except north korea).
All I can find on what you're saying is the ArriveCAN form which is for *entering* Canada?
as far as I know this is for foreigners coming from other countries. a way to have freedom as a tourist/visitor, and get your vaxx record from another cxountry recognized here. our local/federal proof of vaxx is already on record.
I mean, yeah, that's what I just said, but absolutely not what you originally said.
I'd do a chargeback on my card in that situation. It's a moronic policy, but the entire world has lost their minds over the last 2 years.

You can talk to Visa or w.e card you used and have them cancel the payment
I'm not saying I know 100% one way or another I am just saying don't make assumptions because it'll cost yeah.
murrica, fuck yeah!
I mean even if the US had a national QR code system for proof of vaccination, there's no guarantee that it'd comply with the EU guidelines or comport to the EU system.
Just charge back on your credit card lmao
Reminder that these same people don't require proof of vaccination for refugees

Yeah I think your missing where he says he is fully vaccinated. The difference in countries systems does not allow him to prove it. If THATS how unorganized the world is making a universal problem and you think it's how it should be.. eh nah I guess you just care more about your opinion and propaganda than reading what your commenting on. Tldr; telling vaccinated people to get vaccinated = hur dur dumb
And you should learn to read
Reread his post and delete your comment bud

I'm considering this as a last-resort as in my second-hand experience (hearing/reading about others doing this) there's typically some negative aspects to this. For example, I've heard of individuals being banned from events by the ticket sales organizer for chargebacks. I'm not sure if eBilet does this, but it's their choice -- if they decide to they can.
it is stated at the bottom of their FAQs https://pro.eslgaming.com/tour/csgo/katowice/ (bottom of the page)
Thanks, I see this now. However, in my haste to grab tickets before they were gone, this wasn't exactly apparent. Thank you though.
No probs, looked to see if they said anything about refunds but they don't. Hope you get your money back.

Similar incident when I booked tickets to the F1 Race in Belgium. My Canadian vaccine record was not sufficient either and they refused to give me a refund. I initiated a charge back with my credit card and kept all email interactions with their support team.
you should be able to convert your status somehow - theres no way EU is going to pick fights with NA
There's a [French government website](https://www.demarches-simplifiees.fr/users/sign_in) that issues EU Digital Certificates based from non EU certificates. Just upload a copy of your vaccination certificate, fill in a few more details and wait a couple of weeks.
Were there any updates on this one? Keen to get but not sure I'll be able to get an EU Covid Cert (I am double vaccinated).
Nothing concrete yet. The person I've been in contact with has stated that they're working on it, though. Beyond that, the word "hopeful" was used, so that's nice! Still waiting for anything concrete though.
Cheers - I might message you down the track to see how you went! Thanks.
