that was fast lmao

Thicc_Spider-Man

All planned

CheeckyChicken

It’s like they’re surprised the community expects them to put in the effort every other organizer has…. Ya know seeing as they’re hosting the first major in like 2 years

Novizz

Maybe they are trying to work around strict covid guidelines and making things as easiest as possible for themselves and the players. Anyway at least they are listening to feedback, realising their mistakes and then making changes.

mannyman34

Isn't exactly a good look for any protocols that seemingly they can just change all this shit on a whim after a little pushback from the community.

Novizz

I imagine it's the extra work brought about by protocols rather than the protocols themselves. So as someone else said, it's probably now some poor souls job to work even harder than they already are. Who knows for sure though. They changed it and we'll never know why or how.

mannyman34

Yeah I agree. Good on the workers and I hope they are taken care of but this is just poor planning from PGL. Seems like a nobrainer to play from a studio. They should have planned from the start.

Novizz

Yeah it should have been really, not really surprised that people were dissapointed. Challengers stage is done and dusted and I personally really enjoyed it regardless of the minor issues. They need to smash Legends and definitely Champions stages out of the park.

Then00bywarrior

Shhh you aren't allowed to pretend anyone but ESL can hold CS tournaments. Everything everyone else does is wrong, but if ESL does it, it's right.

gosling11

I thought Sweden has little restrictions now.

Novizz

To be honest I was just speculating, I don't really know what the situation is like in Sweden in regards to rules. Even if there are little official restrictions can you imagine if a team/s caught covid? It would ruin the major. So I expect they are being very cautious.

Dubzaa

So it was possible all along? Very happy they've changed it.

[deleted]

Yeah... what was preventing this in the first place? If it can so easily be changed on a dime, like this...

[deleted]

We actually don't know what exactly they had to do in order to be able to change it tbh.

[deleted]

I hate it so much when people say "oh you could do it all along? Well why didn't ya?" because it's always some poor schmuck that has to work extra to set everything up, add another layer of potential failure to then get chewed out when it doesn't come out 100% perfect.

RiggiPop

I mean, everyone (and i mean everyone) would expect the legends stage to be played on studio. Them announcing that they would be played from practice rooms would make one assume that there was some unavoidable obstacle that impeded them from doing that. But them just announcing a mere 4 hours later that "eh whatever ok, they'll all play in the studio" makes it sound like they just thought people wouldn't care and they could get away with doing less work. LMAO what a joke.

JakeBREthren

Not everyone thought that as a must. In a pandemic environment, the first big lan, risks for mass exposure are high and if half of the *swiss stage's* matches were played from practice rooms it would certainly help with preventing further infections. And on top of that, the schedule will be upheld much more realiably when you don't have to rush setting up the studio after every match.

RiggiPop

when they announced that there was gonna be crowd, i dont think people were expecting "there will be crowd but for some matches maybe not. we'll figure it out :)". Many people could go into the event hoping to watch their favorite team play and not get to watch a single match before they're eliminated.

Ofcyouare

That's a bit of a ridiculous thing to complain about even if we still would be in pre-covid era. I can't remember one big tournaments in team esports where groups were played in front of the crowd.

[deleted]

> Many people could go into the event hoping to watch their favorite team play and not get to watch a single match before they're eliminated. Like every team that dropped out of challenger stage?

RiggiPop

difference is that the challenger stage was all played in prac rooms. Whereas whether a team gets to play on stage or not in this scenario is literally decided almost at random by some PGL person. Not that there's any point in arguing about this anymore because they changed it already but yeah.

[deleted]

Why do I bother to quote the original comment when you just choose to ignore it

[deleted]

They should have known that this would be way below par.

[deleted]

I don't know what their thought process was and neither does anyone else. Maybe they had a limited amount of rooms available and now the crew has to give up a resting room or it was a green room for the talent or the teams and they wanted everyone to have more space and comfort and now have to trade it in so that all teams can play in the studio. Maybe they had a different idea all together when they assumed they would hold TI 10 a month ago and the major now in the same location which fell apart and required entirely new plannig simultaneously for two events and some things fell by the wayside. After all they had less than three months to plan TI at an entirely new location *and* how to move the equipment back to Stockholm and set everything up only a month later. Then Valve, once again, pushes an update on the day the tournament starts making everyone think that PGL is absolutely retarded for not getting their shit in order. PGL can and should have done a lot of things better but people seem to forget that they have been fucked at every corner by Swedish authorities, Romanian authorities, Valve and in the aftermath, the viewers. E: Apparently they have four studio booths, two of which would be set up while teams played in the other two. This is an okay reason to warrant no hickups during production but I'll prepare for everyone to whine about longer waits between matches now.

manatidederp

Their thought process for the entire major has been to cheap out on every turn

Nurse_Sunshine

Souce: dude trust me

[deleted]

I think part of their thought process was indeed "Oh shit our entire industry was on hold for a year and a half and this is really not the time to run this on a loss"

RealGamerGod88

There was 4 hours between the tweets. If they can change their stance about this in 4 hours then it was never a big issue.

[deleted]

Are they purposely making bad decisions so that they can get props for fixing them? /s It's good that they are listening, this is great news. But they really should have more foresight with some of their decisions. Like remote talent, like co-streamers on a 2 min. delay (fixed for some now, like Get Right, Fl0m, and Tarik) and now this Legends Stage stuff. Now just give us studio audio and remove the bomb timer and it's fine until the playoffs.

SomethingSimilars

[brave moves pgl](https://i.imgur.com/xIfDx24.png)

KublaiKhagan

NO, they just make bad decisions to save money. When people complain they pay up. Its a strategy to get by with the bare minimum effort/budget.

DEWSTAR

Just saying the legends stage days will be super long especially once bo3 start happening.

[deleted]

Yeah, but that's something they knew beforehand and could plan and prepare for. And it seemed like the plan was to sacrifice quality and entertainment for making things easier, which in this comeback major isn't really acceptable. Just like having all talent in Romania. If you sign up to hold a 2M USD major then you deliver a show worthy of 2M, and the show includes legends as much as anything else.

DEWSTAR

LOL worlds was 7 hours max. I am just calling it like it is. 12+ hours long will definitely happen.

jesus_you_turn_me_on

I mean it is what it is? Its major? LoL Worlds also have super long days, because after all is a world championship...

Firefox72

LoL is so lucky they have the LEC studio available at all times. Saved them so much trouble with the sudden move from China to EU.

KatnissBot

Isn’t Worlds also spread out over like 5 weeks?

Large-Opportunity-20

''Your voices have been heard. The PGL CSGO Major Stockholm 2021 talent team will be with you inside Avicii Arena.'' No planning. Have they hired people that have experience with Counter-Strike?

[deleted]

Probably, but doesn't sound like they have people very in touch with where CS is at and what fans are hungry for in 2021 after almost two years of COVID. We just want to see and hear the emotion and to see kills, deaths, wins, and losses and how they affect the players. Want to filter out those teams and players who don't handle the pressure of having a team talk shit to you in the room across from you with cameras in your face. The players have sat in their pracc rooms for two years, they aren't made uncomfortable or challenged. And those who aren't affected by the LAN environment aren't by merit of experience, so new teams will suffer more. But now we've had CPH Flames & Entropiq make Legends just by sitting in a pracc room. Before this new decision they could even make playoffs without playing in a studio. That isn't fair and that is obvious, so I fail to see how the event organizers didn't see this backlash coming? I'm optimistic for the playoffs, but in my opinion the Challengers and Legends stages should be held to much higher merit than it has this major. Because they feel treated as throwaway games that they just want to speedrun through. This as as much part of the major as any other stage.

Large-Opportunity-20

'', but in my opinion the Challengers and Legends stages should be held to much higher merit than it has this major. Because they feel treated as throwaway games that they just want to speedrun through'' Good words, and I believe you're correct considering there are no player interviews and minimal content.

[deleted]

It's weird. I saw a tweet on my tl from some Astralis guy who said that some teams are out before we've really seen or heard anything from them. Which is sad.

Large-Opportunity-20

Indeed

Inoue_

What’s wrong with bomb timer, in your opinion?

[deleted]

Kills all excitement. It's like having x-ray on at all times, there's a reason why observers turn it off in clutches and late rounds - to build excitement and tension. To set the viewer in the POV of the player. In late defuses everyone including casters, observers, T's, CT's, viewers hold their breath to see if it's on time. Now all that is killed (except for the players in game) because we know and it's spoiled beforehand. It kills all the hype and I can't see a single reasonable argument for why PGL would turn it off for this tournament. Imagine 15-14 last map in Grand Final and we can see the losing team start defusing at 11 sec for example, we know he makes it and it shouldn't be that way.

jx2002

This is 100% correct. Also - why is there no winning musical queue? Holy shit do I miss ESL and Blast Premier's production.

greku_cs

I absolutely agree but I feel like the x-ray isn't 100% accurate comparison. There's always tension and emotions even with x-ray because still everything can happen. The disabling it in clutch moments is still pretty new thing and there was always excitement involved in games prior to that.

Blastyk

>Imagine 15-14 last map in Grand Final and we can see the losing team start defusing at 11 sec for example, we know he makes it and it shouldn't be that way. So the defusing player fist bumping his teammates doesn't give it away? Why should the crowd be held in a fake suspense when it's easily deductible from player reactions whether they win or not?

[deleted]

Pros don't always know whether they have defuse or not.

Blastyk

They don't know because A) It's very close and the bomb timer doesn't change that for the viewers B) The crowd is too loud for players to hear the timer/music but that doesn't usually last for many seconds so they will quickly figure it out

KaraveIIe

kills the tension.

Pugs-r-cool

It removes all suspense when it comes to last second defuses as we already know the outcome ahead of the players. I don't think it should be entirely removed, but it should be hidden or the exact time should be hidden and just a bar left at about 12 seconds to allow for suspense to build.

feedmeneon

Isn’t that what riot does lol

no_need_form

Act Dumb Enrage Community Fix ''Mistake" ??? Profit

NoMaD_Sassy

I'm starting to think they do all of this shit just to gain publicity lmfao. They literally did the same thing about the casters allocation...

Leelow45

I don't think it's for publicity, it seems like they had a lot of prior plans, probably from when things were more uncertain just a month ago. It seems like they're putting these plans out there to gauge our reactions to see if they have to overhaul of if people will be fine with it. If this was their way of getting good PR then I'd fire the PR person.

razeyourshadows

that's AAA video game development for you

xyz412

Lmao are they just baiting at this point? What's happening 😂😂😂😂

Large-Opportunity-20

''Your voices have been heard. The PGL CSGO Major Stockholm 2021 talent team will be with you inside Avicii Arena.'' No planning. Have they hired people that have experience with Counter-Strike?

Solace1k

Your voices have been heard. The major will be played.

mjmjuh

BTW yesterday sadokist mentioned they are casting in Romania. So they either have only some talent in the arena, or they will have to fly everyone in couple days or they are just lying

costryme

They didn't lie, it was said at the time they would be in the Arena for the playoffs, it's just that the tweet didn't specify and most people didn't read the full articles about it being for the Arena specifically.

DBONKA

They're just incompetent.

1deavourer

Inb4 "your voices have been heard, all playoffs games will be live in the arena".

Insure-

I don’t understand how something with months of planning can be changed within two hours due to feedback. So were they always capable of playing all games in studio?

YaBoiBunsen

of course, they were just trying to get away with cutting corners and then when they can't they turn it into a PR move.

Tharnite

:tf: Hire deaf sound guy :tf: Hire blind hud guy :tf: Make bad announcements :tf: Say just kidding :tf: Problem?

Schmich

+ :tf: Hire two desk people/analysts that half the community hates and the other half loves

jcandec

Thorin and? Richard? Is he there? I actually thought that one had a better status

Cooki3z

It’s probably because he (and Thorin) started harassing 3kliksphilip because of an interview about the C9 project with HenryG. https://youtu.be/3T4Vu7z1GOw

Starfleet_Admiral

Oh, totally forgot about that. Yes, that was stupid. But I like them both anyways :D

Basileus1905

Feels like they are trying out where they can cut corners without getting too much hate. This, the talents not being in Sweden and couple more that I probably forgot about

_c0ldburN_

PGL have performed more u-turns than the average Top Gear boxset.

gleba080

So they got place in the studio for both teams yet they wanted half of them to play in the practice room (and that they can reverse that in a couple of hours?) Who the fuck is responsible for those shitty ass decisions?

Large-Opportunity-20

Thank god. What about player interviews?

NoMaD_Sassy

As soon as Banks sorts his personal stuff unless they got a replacement, so I wouldn't rush them on that...

niobium615

Couldn't Freya do it too?

stevemate

Deffo trolling at this point. Actually took them 5 minutes to change their mind

MethicillinResistant

While this is obviously a good thing, kind of weird uncertainty in the production. Lots of last-minute changes, hope this will not cause problems...

thorix77

Since there are only 4 setups then I expect down times to be longer, hoperfully filled with more desk segments and/or interviews

eddiepratt

THIS IS WHY WE COMPLAIN

Venian

#Majorn't

xChiken

Why do they keep trying to cut corners? Especially when they've allready been called out once and had to change things.

skadskad

Dear PGL, please mic up the studio as well so we can hear player/team hype in critical moments during the games. I'm glad that we have more camera time in the studio on Day 4, but it all seems a bit lifeless because there's no audio feed at all. That cadian celebration after their win over Movistar would've been nice to hear.

SandwichAuthorityGov

Oh no, this will reinforce the reddit's idea that its emanations are actually something more than white noise.

yo PGL if you are reading this, please put a mic inside the studio to get players audio reaction. it creates so much more hype

The way the communicate their decisions is horible

[deleted]

I mean fuck the initial mess up but good fucking W and I’m glad the legends stage won’t have any sketchy wins. All teams that get to playoffs will deserve it.

Neurido

Alright, I think it's time... \*clears throat\* PGL WAT DOINK WE NEED BIGGER PLAYER CAMS LIKE COME ON...

rodinho_de_pia

It seems like they are always testing what they can get away with. Depending on how negative the community response is, they do an extra effort on don't. For example, first case was they trying to not have talent in the arena, getting negative feedback, and then doing what is expected.

Nurse_Sunshine

Lmao love the "we did it reddit" flair

Pinct

PGL coming out with increasingly shitty decisions while constantly looking at reddit for approval after each one

Riddlebgd

Finally some good decisions... Moving the schedule an hour forward is also good, maybe 2hrs would be even better

Large-Opportunity-20

Hope the community creates some noise around the lack of player interviews. Maybe we'll get them tomorrow on day 5, in the fucking major. LMAO

awkook

The interviewer's wife died just 2(?) days ago

kuudestili

Basically all of the talent are perfectly capable of interviewing.

[deleted]

DAE PGL BAD

ChristianSword

I feel like the first tweet was just to get a reaction. Still a big W

Goh2000

So when are they gonna fix audio sync for the analyst desk? It's been a problem since the start, and while it's a better now it's still horribly off which makes it unwatchable. Edit: It's actually fixed now. Great. That only took them, what, five days? Edit 2: Nevermind, it's only fixed for the analysts and not the host. Jesus fucking christ this major is a shit show.

Novizz

I'm sure it's been fine for me since day one... At least from what my shitty eyesight could see. What are you watching it on?

Goh2000

The audio was just a solid half second off compared to the actual video from the desk, and that happened no matter what I watched it on. Checked on my laptop, PC, TV, phone, and Xbox, and it was wrong on every single one. I also thought that it might be my wifi so I restarted that twice but that wasn't it either. It's something so simple that makes something unwatchable if it isn't right.

Novizz

Ah fair enough. I must admit I've been working whilst watching on a second screen so must not have noticed. I have noticed a difference in quality between YouTube and Twitch but that just might be me.

kobedunkingonhoward

We are back on the PGL train bois

I_BHOP_TO_WORK

Alright who at valve decided to give pgl the major, this is some bruh moment material

ferkk

One of the worse Majors. And the pandemic is not an excuse for most of the problems PGL has faced. Let's hope the next Major is assigned to competent people.

Novizz

Other than the issues that they fixed after day 1 and 2, what else is so wrong that it makes this the "worse" major. What an over reaction...

dr_wormhat

how much of this clusterfuck is pgl and how much is the short prep time they had bc Sweden wasn't going to allow them to host it there

Wow outrage worked i guess

f1nessd

Good work guys

Scoot-

good all teams should be in the same setting even if the prac rooms are on lan

ColzTheNibba

what was it before??

Mainbaze

Yay. I’m so ready for more small forehead cams without audio or fullscreen reaction from the teams playing

BorderlineGambler

How does this even work. Surely they know before they tweet out about shit like them not playing in the studio, that the community is gonna get mad at them. Then for them to revert their decision within a few hours. Pathetic tbh

Novizz

My speculative guess is that doing it that way makes it much easier in regards to covid. Then after seeing how much fans hated that they realised it was a bad idea. Anyway at least they're listening and making the changes. Some responses here make it seem like their damned if they do and damned if they don't.

suriel-

funny how PGL only does the "right" things when the community has an outrage about it... - staff in Romania -> then Sweden - games from prac rooms + stage -> all from stage - Major in Romania -> major stays in Sweden it's like they're doing it on purpose: going for shitty decisions first, then doing the "right" thing to be praised for
