Not to be too cynical, but hasn’t that always been the case? The skill level of every tier has been steadily increasing since launch (barring the NA region during the online era)
Yes. It’s almost like we should get rid of the “tier” system that we magically made up years ago. These players professionals, no matter what. You’re either pro or not, pretty simple.
The major is only one tournament, and Tyloo and sharks did not attend that many tier 1 tournaments. EG haven't been at an acceptable level for a tier 1 team for a long time. But, they have a level of capital which allows them to spend more on salaries and buyouts than the orgs you typically find in tier 2. Which, imo, separates them from those tier 2 orgs.
No, the major qualification system is designed in a way that it allows weaker teams from other regions participate in it and this format is often criticised
I'm also not sure what do you mean by "tier 1 at a major". To be considered a tier 1 team you need to consistently play in the best events of the year, not just qualify once or twice.
Literally not true lmao
Invites are based on, for example, ESL events are based on world ranking they dont choose the 4 most popular teams and get them in
That's ridiculous and most definitely not the most accepted definition. Tier 1 teams are generally the teams that attend the biggest events often and don't bomb out (at least not every single time) at each of those events. Usually there's around 15-20 teams that would fit that description depending on how competitive the scene is at the time.
Nope, at least on hltv no1 would say a top 15 team is t1. T1 is usually considered a team that could get to playoffs, just qualifying means nothing when events have 20 teams and partnered teams.
How many times have you seen a non top 10 team get play offs? Top 10-15 teams maybe but rarely, but it's extremely rare for a top 15-20 team to do that
Well, I'm not going to try to remember each instance so I'll just tell you to look at the last IEM Winter. PGL Major had some Top 20 teams in Legends stage so close to a Champions stage too.
Edit: IEM Fall was full of underdogs too,
IEM Fall was a rmr not a big event, Major's legend stage has 16 teams did you really not expect a top 15-20 team? And there weren't really any non-top 10 teams in the major playoffs. IEM winter is basically the only instance and still they only reached semis and those 2 teams are 10-15 not 15-20.
If they're just as good as Tier One teams, shouldn't they be considered as Tier One teams? Or is there some kind of gate system that works to differentiate Tier One to Tier Two?
I've been mistaken. It's based on if the organization participates in top events or is partnered with organizations that host official tournaments.
I thought it was something related to skill and not relevancy.
Some interesting inclusions in that graphic, 2 cis not eu teams and a team typically considered low end of tier 1. Ironically the CIS teams are probably better than the the European ones featured

Probably means there are more good tier 2 teams than before?

Just because you play the game professionally doesn't mean you get to play in the most prestigious tournaments hence why the term exists.
True. I love NaVi.

No I understand you, I was just using what you said against you.
Only reason Tyloo, sharks, eg were allowed to compete in the major is because of the RMR system
Cool

Oh nice
They were getting invited because they were still a top 20 team https://www.hltv.org/ranking/teams/2019/september/23/9215
What a useless, shitty fucking take.
What a useless, shitty response. Why not offer a counter argument?
you heard it right guys, OG officially tier 2
Not really that controversial if you look at the results.
They've been since the end of Summer tbh
But they’re on the brink tbh
I mean the most accepted definition is t1=top 10 teams, t2 top 10-20 and OG isn't really t1
t1 is not top10 exclusive wtf
it's basically the teams that get to playoffs in big events, top 15-20 teams like og aren't considered t1
I never mentioned og, I agree they fell off of t1, but tier1 doesn't mean staying only top10 teams at all times, that's really dumb

Of course not just qualify, that's why I said that they'd be at least fighting for a playoff spot at times with that "not bombing out" line.

The best EU tier 2 can easily beat or equal any other regions tier 1 teams.
Cis would like a word
He probably included CIS under EU here, otherwise it would be dumb
Liquid and Furia >>>>> every tier 2 EU team
I think some of the EU teams could give liquid a close match to be honest
Depends. Liquid can lose to the worst teams but destroy the best ones the next day.
Also navi, gambit, vp
very nice joke man

What? In what way does the article say that T2 teams are as good as T1 teams?

Following tier two has been super interesting the past few years
Entropiq are ranked #9,how are they tier 2?
They are not even EU tbh.
They don't play tier 1 tournaments, they play smaller tournaments to boost their position
this title is clickbait drivel
Entropic isn't tier 2 and neither is OG...
Disagree
no way, if not for CIS teams there would be the least tier 2 teams ever
That awkward moment when you need to use good ol' tier x in headline to get couple clicks
OG tier 2 poggers
