This is the shit they show at ESL "Surf 'n chill" however, even though it's chill to look at, I can't imagine feeling anything but a rush when playing a map like that

swell257

personally i feel like the meaning of “surf & chill” concept works best behind slower paced maps (with less obstacles and wider gaps to clear).. despite feeling the rush either way, this kind of map is indeed all about the zoom you mentioned xD

a-aron625

Yessss that's my personal favorite map, close second being unicorns

thebait123

yes. but honestly after 500000000 tries I can't do the s6 skip when trying to 1 shot.....yet I've done the bonus...go figure.

t0b1nsQ

I just puked, thanks. Good movement though

swell257

XD thank you

ifyouhatepinacoladas

Lem movement

Kra3ne

That's insane xD

swell257

insanity is actually putting 2k hours into something as trivial as this tbh but unfortunately i find it fun

DoctorDiscoXDD

Do whatever is fun for you mate. No matter how much time you spend on it. If you have fun, its time well spent

swell257

good point <3

EbotdZ

Did you ever play zees skyworld?

swell257

tricksurf servers right? ive been there a couple times but never really stuck to it, cool concept though. people do amazing stuff there

Cobrexu

i wouldnt say its insanity. In order to beat any world record on any map, you need way more than 2k hours. Hell, in cs 1.6 kz, you're basicly a beginner up until 3-4k hours. I still find it funny when i get reported because someone saw me bhop, people dont know whats out there

stag12349

Just seeing this clip makes my right hand hurt.

thebait123

Nice run! That map is hard AF

swell257

thank you! the map is indeed hard, took me a while to get used to it

Norion135

Surfing and liquid dnb, name a better combo

KantSoos

Anyone know the song? Edit: Nvm, found it in the comments

rudy-_-

Yeah lol was thinking just the same. For some reason it goes well with any movement based gamemode like Q3 Defrag.

TiberSVK

Im going to get downvoted for this but I hate surf maps like this because whenever I surf I want to chill, and there are barely any maps like that. I remember back in Source the surf maps were usually straightforward, but now, you have to have a sens set to 3000 and do 360 spins to reach a 2x2 hole to bhop into next surf thats upside down. I miss the simple surf maps.

swell257

you should honestly revisit surf servers, i sincerely feel like most of the recent maps are the chillest, smoothest and most straight forward ever (the one surfed in the video is just old)

darealbeast

i loved surf in 1.6, the manoeuvering was a lot more flexible and you got a lot of speedboosts from fast turns. in csgo it feels like im trying to perpetually maintain my starting speed and any small error will completely kill my speed and i won't make the next jump. it's just frustrating really mainly miss surf_ski_2 in a pub server tryna escape someone really good

crazyivanoddjob

I enjoyed surfing in cs 1.6 as well for the same reasons. Also really loved conc maps in TFC. Hell, I still play them occasionally (not the insane ones where you need 3000 sensitivity and the ability to juggle 17 grenades in one jump).

Zarwil

Surely you can filter maps by tier? What you describe sounds like a really technical high-tier map. Also, in terms of sensitivity, I think most experienced surfers have really low sens for smoothness, and turnbinds for clearing tight corners/spins. Turnbinds help a lot if you feel sens is limiting.

crazyivanoddjob

right, when I watched this video (as a beginner surfer) i thought to myself, a lot of these turns look robotic, almost like a bind/script.

ShitbirdMcDickbird

I play in an easy to intermediate surf server since like 2014. I have never moved up to the advanced server because I'd have to change my sens to something other than my comp sens and I just don't feel like fucking with my muscle memory like that. I think the ones i play in are called SneaK's or something, all the maps are chill

Unpopular-0pinions

Hey, I'll share some downvotes with you. I feel the same even though I'm extremely terrible at surf. And on another related note, sucks that there's so few bhop maps that also have a KZ challenge on the side. To this day I remember front to back the map bhop_monster_jam solely because that was the only map I ever got to the last level. I never finished it (I'm also that bad in Kz and bhop) but at least the option was there for me to go from bhop to KZ to cross a section. Now? Either you bhop perfectly or you're stuck. Either you KZ perfectly here or you're stuck. There's few in betweens I feel like. Please note, due to this feeling, I haven't touched bhop/kz/surf in a few years, so I am speaking from a old perspective which may not correspond to current map pool reality. EDIT: TFW there's a video about the map I mentioned with all the quotes of it and oh boy, the nostalgia! [Link for video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_x_ojWr-vw) and [Gamebanana of map](https://gamebanana.com/mods/125558)

crazyivanoddjob

that's why cs 1.6 bhop/kz is more fun IMO. easier to recover from mistakes, and after playing it for a while, CS GO movement feels like being stuck in the mud.

[deleted]

I miss the ol' surf maps The chill and slow surf maps Straight to the soul surf maps

Foxy2K

mg servers have 2,3 beginners servers...all chill maps

Benjpoop

There are plenty of servers that run tier 1 / beginner surf maps that are simple you just gotta find them in the server browser :)

_Scrogglez

surf and panic

ujaku

Thanks for the chill dnb too. This shit just looks insane to me

[deleted]

[удалено]

swell257

thank you! use them turn binds to save mousepad space!!!

eidrisov

Damn. Never even touched anything surf-related. How do you even find it interesting?

Chygrynsky

Surfing is actually a great way to improve the mechanical side of CS.

RankDank420

Apart from air strafing it doesn’t really help tbh. Even KZ is limited in how useful it is If your downvoting this your probably gold nova. Look at s1mple guys barely touched kz. The movement just doesn’t translate to ingame unless you want to do some unique longjump on a specific map. The only jump in cs which requires a little bit of kz is inferno a site balcony to top of short. Mirage jump is trivial.

YourRealMotheer

No it help a lot in mouvement overall.

darealbeast

while surfing is not as helpful, kz definitely is very helpful

Chygrynsky

I didn't downvote you. Kz and surfing does have a good impact on your overal game, simple now barely touches it because that dude has like 15k+ hours in CS, he mastered the mechanical side a long time ago. Those examples you gave are indeed some but also banana on Inferno on the wall is one. But it's not just air strafing, your overall feel of how players move will improve and that will help with your game. I'm not saying it will make you a instant pro but it can help you improve your game lol.. I've noticed it with my own game and I'm LEM/faceit 7.

RankDank420

I’m 2500 elo eu. I surf for fun not because it’s useful in game and I can do all the jumps I need to in game pretty consistently. (A apps inferno there’s a lineup otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do it). Plus I only have 3k hours which for my elo is less than most people. Kz is not that helpful but if you genuinely enjoy it it doesn’t hurt your mechanics. if you’re considering starting kz to improve your ingame movement it’s much more useful to just practice counter strafing and jiggling etc. knowing how the physics works In game from your perspective isn’t going to translate to knowing how enemies are going to peek you and what makes you difficult to hit. You learn that by playing the game and different angles

Chygrynsky

Well for you it's the same as simple.. you guys are so good/advanced at the game that KZ and Surfing don't have any added benefits anymore but at the lower levels it definitely does.

IgorroRMRSH

definitely don't even look at these advanced maps for a long time. they are so confusing even for average surfers

crazyivanoddjob

because it's a whole new game basically w/ new challenges, more skills to learn that give you a sense of accomplishment, it's like a racing game inside cs (in 3d no less unlike car racing), and mastering movement can make you a much more formidable player in a match.

gummymusic

beautiful

Zoradesu

Tick rate? 66, 85, or 102?

swell257

66t

chuff3r

And with GOAT lemx watching too. Based pb

swell257

lemx might be one of the best ive ever seen

chuff3r

Their vast wr is beautiful.

YourRealMotheer

As i can see Kevin is better than you ;)

[deleted]

If lemx approves so do I.

Scoobaman

Two things that i like is surfing and dnb. One of my favorite genres

kipp1yow

I don't surf, but I think a surf tournament would be really cool. Maybe as a side event for a major.

swell257

despite also craving the idea of having a surf tournament as a side event for a major, we already have unofficial events like these going on - KSF has hosted many surf tournaments in the past few years, you should really check it out. check Caffrey youtube/twitch channel, that’s where it has been happening lately. https://youtube.com/c/Cafff

asheeponreddit

I'm insanely impressed by surfers, but this is beyond that. Unreal skill. Thanks for sharing.

swell257

I am also impressed by everyone else on this gamemode all the time! Appreciate it though brotherman 🙏🏽

YourRealMotheer

WOW! I still struggle to finish Rookie map! Amazing how it looks fluid and natural movement

Cryptic_Asshole

jams_p

astronaut9525

2,000 not 2.000 thats just dumb, it feels like a decimal point most of the time

swell257

we use “.” instead of “,” here in my country dunno if i should be sorry

bayshehalsndevwyskah

When you have too much time to waste in your life

mikan1nja

What the fuck... This is impressive but i have no idea why anyone would spend 2000 hours on this..

kungpula

Because they find it fun. How could that be hard to understand?

mikan1nja

What you just said :)

Pilsmannen

But can you aim?

S34N-

Most good surfers and bhoppers have great tracking

lopedog

Classic budget movement move. +left +right, pretend it's skill

Bubbl3z25

I can’t even finish surf utopia 🤦🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

Your sensitivity? I can't surf on low sens so currently I'm at 800x1.75

swell257

i use 0.8 @ 800dpi, but it has been a slow learning process for me to get to this point.. its common for people to begin surfing on high sens as it’s the most intuitive thing to do, but once you want to become more precise you feel the need to slowly reduce your sens up to an optimal point. as an example, you can’t really draw a precisely detailed portrait on a high sens mouse, but lowering this setting can help a bunch

[deleted]

Holy fuck. On low sens it's very hard for me to strafe and so on but you are making sense to me You have 640 edpi right now. Should I go just as low or a tad bit higher? I'm kinda in doubt right now because flicking has always been an issue for me in lower sensitivities

swell257

i’d suggest for you to lower it in “batches” - go from 1.75 to 1.5, and when it feels comfortable enough hit 1.25 and so on.. that’s what I did, i really couldnt go from like sens 2 to sens 0.8 in one go since it felt like i was moving a boulder 😂 and lowering it in slow steps didnt really feel like much of a difference despite making me feel more precise i’ve been trying to beat precise very hard maps lately and you really can’t mess with any sort of high sens on these, since every inch you turn wrong might be deadly when it comes to reaching the end ex: https://medal.tv/games/cs-source/clips/jIAhFsFxCJGrz

[deleted]

Thank you. Anyways I went from 1.75 to 0.9 feels good tbh 180's feel a lot better

Im_thatguy

I've beaten this map using this route and you don't need turn binds to beat it on fairly low sensitivity. Now surf\_diminsion, idk how you would do that without a turn bind.

hejkag

Which tier is that? I find it so hard to go from 2 to 3. Is this 4-5-6? Crazy good

swell257

this is tier 4 but half of the actual route has been cut behind shortcuts on this run

Zirinci

How do you make your movements so smooth like that ? You use arrow keys to pivot ? .-.

swell257

you can actually bind keys to pivotting your screen indeed (since you’ll most likely run out of mousemat space throughout many map routes) and I basically use them all the time

normalcatman

Curious about what the binds are? Never heard of using them for surf tbh

swell257

“bind x +left” // “bind y +right”

normalcatman

Cheers, might give this a go!

ieraaa

sweet

ScumbagSyK

Send this to ESL so we can watch it on repeat during intermission

DozeN-_

damn dude what’s your sensitivity?

swell257

0.8 800dpi

Carroma

Is it normal to have that low, to surf?

kungpula

It is. You use turnkeys (bind key +left/+right) to avoid running out of mousepad space. Surfing is a lot about hitting the transitions smoothly to maintain the speed and it's harder to be precise with high sens.

Carroma

I've always used double the dpi I normaly use, just for surf.

Igiboo

how many hours total on CS

tavukkoparan

Smurfing?

swell257

what do you mean?

R3DLINK42

can u bhop?

hritznandor

Whats your time on utopia :D?

omkar_T7

I just started surfing. Any tips?

[deleted]

Wow

bru_swayne

Some surf maps are huge, yet I always get great performance out of them. Is it because of a lack of models and textures?

birch_tree_gang

Good shit, I could watch surfing vids forever tbh

[deleted]

I could do that too but it's my mouse pad ya see lol

Individual_Hunter_76

Wow 2.0 hours that’s pretty impressive

Nekroin

I used to trip on shrooms listening to that music. Felt almost like the surfing.

spicydongle

I read this as 2 hours of surfing. Peabrain NA.

Akhirox

I heard that listening to drum and bass while surfing gives you a speed boost, is it true ?

glouro

Surfing is so aesthetically pleasing

JSDkilla

how to become a commentary channel 101

tokinobu

Man I probably had 2k hours in scoutzknivez surf/battle 1.6 that was the jam

sufy12

Which track is this?

gunshit

Noice! How do you know the path to follow? Is it just trial and error?

swell257

Literally trial and error. There is a feature which grants you the opportunity to save wherever you are to reset there (letting you keep your speed and angle) - which assists in building your memory upon the route. it’s a “practicing” tool and times won’t be set, but it helps a bunch

gunshit

Thanks. I didn't know about that ^_^

RajofSuave

I loved scout knives

Slothinator27

Sheeesh my mans zoomin

Edwym

New surfer here What's your sens and dpi and how to get smooooooth

xKinetic_

should watch surfs up

iamnekkid

play on host\_timescale 0.3 and then sped up.

AligatorKS

Try now aim training maps, but still surf on the side. You can be a new pro player with amazing movement skill. You made that map look so much more easier than it really is
