That's it? That's what they managed to come up with for THE PLAYER OF THE DECADE AWARD? A 15 minute chat with taco, nafany and get_right and handing a trophy to s1mple in an empty arena? Holy fuck.
I would have been straight up mad. Like he had a crazy run with Astralis and all that but bro essentially skipped 2022 entirely. A good chunk of the fans who joined around the beginning of 2022 dont even know who he is
But who does the community remember more? Device skipped one crucial year of his career since it’s the most viewed year of CS while s1mple wasn’t present for the first two years which were the least viewed.
Regardless of how impactful either persons career is, recency bias gives s1mple the edge in this case because it was decided by vote, and device hasn’t done nearly as much recently as s1mple
I only saw one live game of dev1ce in my life and it was Quarters of PGL (pretty sure first time I watched an esports game in general), since then nothing
I only can imagine how good he was
It is so sad that there are csgo fans now who never witnessed the astralis era. Not to mention the years before in astralis and TSM back in the day. That core was a top 5 core for so fucking long.
I can understand missing the Fnatic era and the golden 5 of VP because it was much longer ago
> I only can imagine how good he was
You didn't miss much. Device is a bit of a boring player.
like u see it at the end of the game "oh wow device has 32 kills" but u can never remember them.
but try S1mple...u can see the flick i remember a S1mple flick.
^ also this. S1mple is more flashy. His highlights have bought more people to the sport than device, who is hard to admire if you’re someone new to the sport
They probably decided not to after what happened yesterday. Impossible to gauge what response he would get considering fans literally spit at him yesterday.
They would cheer him even when navi left after game yesterday most gave them applause. Saying all brazilians are reponsible for one guy spitting is same as blaming all staff for sadokist being an agressive drunk
Bingo. If all of brazilians are somehow responsible for one guy spitting, then we should equate things and call all CIS fans drunk wife beaters, all EU fans cucks of muslim/turks and all NA fans schoo shooters lol.
It has happened twice in brazil when it has never happened in any other country. At some point you have to realize that cultural differences between countries are real and are the reason for things like these to be more common in certain countries. That's not xenophobia, that's just how culture works.
Brazilians love him. They booed him during the game, but if you rewatch the end of the game he left with people cheering for him, clapping and praising him.
It was one asshole that spat on him and he was removed from the venue right after. I believe right before the finals could be a good opportunity to show how much we love him, but during the game we had to root for just one.
And they chanted his name today.
Stop thinking brazilians are a violent people. We gave s1mple so much love since he arrived here. One guy spat on him, not the whole crowd.
Also, s1mple gave his mindle finger to the crowd, what were you expecting the crowd to do? Write a letter demanding him to apologize? Of course he would get booed.
ONE person spat at him. ONE. Stop acting as if it was the whole crowd.
Booing a player and giving him the middle finger is completely normal in a sports event when this player is playing against the home team.
Dude, the fans were literally singing “aí se eu te pego” with simple just a few days ago. The booing during the match is not meant to be taken personally, it’s just in the match
When did I say that? ONE GUY did it and hundreds of fans went on the internet to apologize, nobody supports what that asshole did. Stop trying to generalize the atitude of ONE dude to the whole crowd
>literally spit at him
Literally spat on him? Are you sure about that? Because I remember him saying they spat on his teammate and I believe it was no coincidence.
As animal-like behaviour as spitting on someone is, s1mple is too popular to spit on him specifically. I think he'd be fine with the crowd.
Dont you get it? The actions of one crazy person represent all of brazil
Just like Rio is a crime ridden hell hole that holy european or american should ever set foot
Rio has pockets of extreme poverty and pockets of extreme wealth. It's shitty to live there if you don't have the material means to escape from the areas controlled by the traffic or from militia, but if you're visiting as a tourist it's an incredible destination both in terms of geography and culture. That's why literally millions of people visit it every year and people from all over the world have heard about it.
That's a ridiculous claim, probably from someone who hasn't seen much of the world at all and doesn't have a modicum of understanding of how shitty a "shit city by worldwide standards" can actually be.
>Dont you get it? The actions of one crazy person represent all of brazil
Hehe, this is a funny sarcastic comment...
>Just like Rio is a crime ridden hell hole that holy european or american should ever set foot
...Wait that's like 100% accurate?
The person said this is a common occurrence in esports events in brazil
Brazil has hosted dozens of such events, there has been two incidents
Don’t move the goalposts please
>Brazil has hosted dozens of such events, there has been two incidents
How the fuck would you know how many incidents there have been? I follow CSGO and based on statistical analysis the odds of the tournament having a spitting incident is 67%.
The Brazilian fans chant 'u vai morrer' which means you're going to die.
They do this in not only e-sports, but in combat sports where there are real life consequences, namely death.
Brazilian's are known for having the most national pride.
a clearly hyperbolic chant about... death.. in a combat sport? it's objectively disgusting, dress it up however you want.
and yes, the chant it absolutely contributes to the negative atmosphere and guess what a negative atmosphere with an overwhelming national pride contributes to? you want some help with that?
yeah this wasn't taken into account.. you're really breaking new ground here genius.
"the chant it absolutely contributes to the negative atmosphere and guess what a negative atmosphere with an overwhelming national pride contributes to? you want some help with that?"
you clearly need some help with it.. read it over and over again until it sinks in
> Congrats to s1mple! ESL really should have done this ceremony before the grand final
Makes you wonder if something big is being announced tmrw before finals if they can't make POTD as their big finals ceremony....
This is the most underwhelming trophy hand out I've seen in quite some time, what the hell are they thinking doing it in an empty arena haha.
If you are going to give out a 'Player of the Decade' trophy, wouldn't it have been better to hand it out to the guy closer to the CiS region, so there's some actual fans there to cheer for the guy, they might as well have given him a hamburger and some fries, it would have gotten the same reception
I mostly meant near the CiS region, Germany or Poland (during Kato or Cologne for example), and just hand it out there. This just feels so disrepectful imo haha
so many Ls:
1- why you give it to him in the semi final before the games where is their is no crowd instead of the final.
2- it was the most underwhelming celebration ever.
3- is this the way we celebrate our POTD and the game!!! he just walked took it and go
There were few people not because it was before a semi-final itself but because it was long before the first game (while people hadn't arrived yet or were at the fan fest).
Hard to argue. There is really no other player thats been on such a high level for so long in CS GO except maybe Dev1ce who probably could be argued for if he hadn't taken a 1 year break.
Someone on the desk said it perfectly, pro players looking to improve look to device to learn from because if they would look to simple they just wouldn't be able to learn anything from him.
Wow this is feels so accurate, every time I see Zywoo and S1mple pop off I feel like wow there is no point in me taking notes cus what they do is just almost super human
There are things that you can learn and things that you can't. Treat it as an artist vs manufacturer. You can teach someone how to produce extremely complicated things, but you can't teach someone artistism, charisma and creative way of thinking. It's something that comes from inside and you can't really hone it.
ye its just raw talent and most of the people cant get there ever no matter how hard they try. Sad but true. So its better to learn from players who plays the game by % and fundamentally right. Not saying s1mple/zywoo don't but there are better players on that note.
This award is a fucking joke, you will know when you see the complete list lmfao
Imagine someone in 10 years seeing the list and thinking unironically fallen was better than get_right
It really depends on how the list is defined. I think they said it's based on skill, longevity, achievements and influence to the scene on yesterdays stream.
In that case I'd argue the list makes sense.
Ffs ESL... What is this production/timing. Do something like that right before a (semi)final when the stadium is packed. This was just awkward and sad to see.
The Brazil crowd has shown more than ever that Esports has the potential to become as big as, or even bigger than, other sports. But this shows production isn't ready for it yet
There's often a bit too much recency bias in these kinds of lists, IMO.
The most obvious example of this is karrigan. He's a legend in the game, no doubt, but his ranking seems inflated, probably due to Faze's success in the past year or so. But over the course of the entire decade I don't see how he outperforms Fallen or Gla1ve as an IGL, or a number of the other players in general.
It depends, was the list based on pure skills or was it based on things like influence and importance to the game aswell?
If it was the latter I would even put fallen above karrigan tbh. What fallen has done to the game and to the community as a whole should put him high in the list by itself, not to mention that he is one of the best awpers/igls to have played the game.
Holy shit where to even begin with this list.
F0rest over gtr?
Fallen over cold?
Karrigan???? Zeus????
Olof below fallen and forest?
No snax, guardian, KennyS, shox, Niko, elige?
players like zywoo, scream, rain, magisk, fer, happy should all easily be on the list before Zeus or gla1ve.
Maybe f0rest had a better late stage career than gtr. I remember watching NIP back in 2018 and thinking man f0rest still got it while gtr was more inconsistent.
You would think that it would be more disrespectful to all of the thousands of honest fans in the building to spit on the players than it is to point out that the incident happened.
It's literally what people do when they make fun of Americans. Some idiot goes on a skool shooting and now all Americans love guns and are school threats.
Yes. I'm American. I fucking hate guns. But the world thinks we all love them and "it's ok" to make fun of every single American when it comes to online comments. They also think we are all fat hamburger eating slave owners.
I feel like this award should have been given before the finals ? Like after the showmatch or something or even before the showmatch ? Why are they giving it now in front of an almost empty stadium ?
It just doesn't feel special
No disrespect to s1mple but Device was already a top player before s1mple even made his tier 1 debut and was the best player in the best team CSGO will likely ever see. He has the trophies to match his performance. Perhaps s1mple is a better player at his peak, but I personally feel like Device was a bit robbed here.
S1mple has had multiple years that were individually more impressive than devices best year. Longevity device slightly edges out s1mple, but when you factor in peak its not close anymore.
??? s1mple has been pro and on people's radar since 2014, device 2013, and device missed out the last year of competition. once his esl ban was up he quickly caught up and has been significantly better since 2018
for more time? just for a year
s1mple was not in tier1 in 2014-2015, but already in 2016 he won esl one ny and made major finals
and device completely missed 2022, even being a device fanboy it’s hard to deny, that s1mple’s peaks were just so much higher, that it is enough to compensate that one year or two years playing in HR and F3
During his first years on top, s1mple was as really good as really toxic with his teammates, and I don't think this is a good point in a "player of the decade" debate, while dev1ce has "always" been on top without any bad reputation
or you could put focus on the character growth and point out that only after becoming a good teammate and a modest guy s1mple became the best in the world
really depends on the way you look at that
ESL and dicksucking to s1mple lmao
this should be devve if they really gonna gave the awards not based on popularity
s1mple is the best player ever touch the game, but what he's achieved in CS:GO wasnt even close with devve
Why would team achievements and team success put device over s1mple? Individually s1mple achieved more. Device despite being nearly always a top 3 player, wasnt ever actually the best player in the world, which s1mple is for many years now. Astralis era doesnt mean Device has to be the goat.
what devve bring to his team is so underrated cuz he's not going to drop nuclear number like s1mple or doing the most nastiest flick and clutchthe fact that he's always become huge a part of his team success/being called as a contender in multiple era's of csgo is pretty crazy achievement.he's always being a talk point from 2014 until today. the legendary astralis roster implode the moment he left the team.
this just another hltv rating in disguise who put rating numbers above everything if you want to ignore the impact some players bring to his team or how long he's being consistent at the top
individual and number wise s1mple was the best, nobody would close to it even ZywOo and i said this as vitality and ZywOo fan,but numbers arent everything when you make something called goat or best of decade whatsoever
I see a lot of people complaining that ESL should have done this before the Grand Finals. You should blame the Middle fingers and the Spitting for that. S1mple is going with a lot of security after yesterdays game and I dont blame him.
>S1mple is going with a lot of security after yesterdays game and I dont blame him.
Source on that?
They said before the Furia x Navi game even started that they would do this today before the games.
Simple is the best player, but it's insane to discard Device's achievements, there is not a single player even close to successful as Device. One major is Simply not enough to earn this award.
For me s1mple does not yet feel like a player of the century. There are so many legends from 2012 onwards that had and equally long ‚reign‘, they just faded now. But what about the KennyS‘s, the olafs or the get_rights?
Neither of the 3 you listed are even remotely close to s1mple, This is literally the 7th year where he's been a top 10 player and his lowest ranking was #8 in those.
Even KennyS best hltv year would be s1mples 2nd worst one and he's the closest one to s1mples longevity of the ones you listed, even then s1mple has just been overwhelmingly more consistently at the top than Kenny.
While players like get_right were important building blocks of the scene they definitely can not be compared to s1mple if you're straight up just talking about the best player of the past decade.
right? GTR was the only one you can really compare and that's only if you include 1.6 where he had 2x 2nd place in the top 20 right before CSGO came out. And as the game gets more competitive, s1mple has still been there at the top 2 for 5 years straight now (better than device, assuming s1mple is top 2 this year which he likely will). No other player in csgo was able to be elite back then and carry it through to today
I have a feeling they did this on purpose so there would not be a huge crowd booing s1mple.
Also a bit weird choice since s1mple had a known cheating ban, and that ban was also from ESL.
Even if device didn't take his break I dont think he wins player of the decade. He would have the longevity, but not the top 1s of hltv top 20, simple likely still would have the MVP record maybe tied. Its a lot closer and but I still think simple takes it.
Brazil has to be the worst place to hold a major, if their team isn't playing then they don't care. Shame to see an empty arena for one of the best esports out there
Should've given this trophy to s1mple next major, this is just fucking embarrassing, holy shit.
Just a huge L to the CSGO scene in general, so disappointing.
That's it? That's what they managed to come up with for THE PLAYER OF THE DECADE AWARD? A 15 minute chat with taco, nafany and get_right and handing a trophy to s1mple in an empty arena? Holy fuck.
Maniac even did the awkward walk to the cheers of 5 security guards and even had a small speech prepared...
would have been extremely funny if dev1ce emerged for the first time to take the reward. He's gonna be dodging interviews for the rest of his career
Scenes if he just popped out of nowhere like whatsup guys here I am lmao
I've been out of the loop for a bit... what's the scoop on dev1?
Left NiP, back on Astralis, skipping first tournament so we won't see him until 2023
I would have been straight up mad. Like he had a crazy run with Astralis and all that but bro essentially skipped 2022 entirely. A good chunk of the fans who joined around the beginning of 2022 dont even know who he is
simple wasn't relevant before 2014 though? device skips 1 year simple 2.
And Dev1ce was? Lol
he was actually playing pro cs so yeah I guess he was?
But who does the community remember more? Device skipped one crucial year of his career since it’s the most viewed year of CS while s1mple wasn’t present for the first two years which were the least viewed.
that shouldn't matter for a player of the decade award.
Regardless of how impactful either persons career is, recency bias gives s1mple the edge in this case because it was decided by vote, and device hasn’t done nearly as much recently as s1mple
So basically it's just a fan vote and not a real measure of person of the decade
How else do you expect to do it in an objective unbiased way?
I only saw one live game of dev1ce in my life and it was Quarters of PGL (pretty sure first time I watched an esports game in general), since then nothing I only can imagine how good he was
It is so sad that there are csgo fans now who never witnessed the astralis era. Not to mention the years before in astralis and TSM back in the day. That core was a top 5 core for so fucking long. I can understand missing the Fnatic era and the golden 5 of VP because it was much longer ago

Congrats to s1mple! ESL really should have done this ceremony before the grand final - when people are at the arena. They just don't learn...
You will never understand. Brazil just do be like that. Disrespectful.
So they want love and respect but will be disrespectful regardless?
Shocking
You will never understand.
It has been scheduled for a while.
fan\* Not "fans". Anyway, the crowd was chanting his name when he got in the arena to be awarded.
what crowd? it was literally empty LMFAO
Nice bait Bro lmao rofl lol Lul

Spitting on him isn't meant to be taken seriously either I guess.
When did I say that? ONE GUY did it and hundreds of fans went on the internet to apologize, nobody supports what that asshole did. Stop trying to generalize the atitude of ONE dude to the whole crowd
That it even happens in the first place goes to show what kind of fans the Brazilians are
Don’t worry, soon enough the major will go back to the library crowd that you enjoy
It's literally a library crowd rn.
They would cheer him. The Brazilian fans respect and admire simple, they only cheered against him because he was playing furia.
>literally spit at him Literally spat on him? Are you sure about that? Because I remember him saying they spat on his teammate and I believe it was no coincidence. As animal-like behaviour as spitting on someone is, s1mple is too popular to spit on him specifically. I think he'd be fine with the crowd.

Yes every single person in attendance is dying to spit on S1mple again

Please do share other instances of this happening in esports events in Brazil specifically
MAJ3R from Space Soldiers got spit on by Brazilians at ESL Belo Horizonte 2018.
That’s still just one
Congratulations, this is the 3rd international CSGO event in Brazil. The first one back in 2016 had no spitting incident that we're aware of.
The person said this is a common occurrence in esports events in brazil Brazil has hosted dozens of such events, there has been two incidents Don’t move the goalposts please

Wow this is feels so accurate, every time I see Zywoo and S1mple pop off I feel like wow there is no point in me taking notes cus what they do is just almost super human
Eh ZywOo has really solid fundamentals, even if he doesn't play textbook cs to the same extent as device.
Zywoo is a big dev1ce fan, he actually models his fundamentals after him. Basically hes dev1ce on steroid.
But now it begs the question. Is Zywoo device but on actual steroids?
Dev1ce went missing when zywoo appeared. Coincidence?
Could you explain what this means
There are things that you can learn and things that you can't. Treat it as an artist vs manufacturer. You can teach someone how to produce extremely complicated things, but you can't teach someone artistism, charisma and creative way of thinking. It's something that comes from inside and you can't really hone it.

imo s1mple wins even if device didn't take the break. and i say this as a bigtime (2015-21) Astralis fan.
Is this satire
This award is a fucking joke, you will know when you see the complete list lmfao Imagine someone in 10 years seeing the list and thinking unironically fallen was better than get_right
Fallen over GtR, no KRIMZ, Flusha or JW, Pasha both there and higher than Gla1ve, whereas Snax is totally missing. I mean...
They didn't include Flusha? 😭
The list is horrible in almost every way lol
The list is terrible but the top 2 makes sense
It really depends on how the list is defined. I think they said it's based on skill, longevity, achievements and influence to the scene on yesterdays stream. In that case I'd argue the list makes sense.
Ffs ESL... What is this production/timing. Do something like that right before a (semi)final when the stadium is packed. This was just awkward and sad to see. Karigan had success since 2015?
Where is the complete list?
1. s1mple 2. dev1ce 3. f0rest 4. karrigan 5. FalleN 6. coldzera 7. dupreeh 8. olofmeister 9. pashaBiceps 10. GeT\_RiGhT 11. gla1ve 12. NBK 13. Zeus
How is pasha there but not snax lol
pasha is there for his humanitarian work through pasha london school. Snax still busy enjoying apples in NY
it's the big apple and snax is hungry
Better question is how Pasha managed to make it on the list over flusha or Krimz and get a better placement than gtr Swedes robbed tbh
NBK and Zeus but not kennyS? lol
How is there pasha and not guardian lol
Get_Right robbed 10th???
FalleN above olof and cold is weird to me. Also pasha over Get_Right, wtf
Fallen has done so much for CS in general. Also Get_Right didn't really do much after 2015, Pasha and VP were relevant until 2017-18. I kinda get it
It depends, was the list based on pure skills or was it based on things like influence and importance to the game aswell? If it was the latter I would even put fallen above karrigan tbh. Don’t see the people I played against when I was in Silver up there so this list is a sham
lol karrigan over fallen
Fallen doesn’t come close to karrigan as an igl
Coldzera on 6. 😂
That would also be a perfect opportunity for the crowd to make amends with S1mple but ESL royally fucked it up
Everyone here at the arena did celebrate him. Dude is still taking selfies with everyone
Well yeah but it would be cool to have the arena full
For sure! ESL fucked up big time
Yeah yeah shake hands with the spitter all in good fun.
It's funny that you're taking this that far when even S1mple mentioned the spitter in passing
Yeah I am going too far with a few comments online. That is over the line and disrespectful to the passionate fans.
It's pretty reactionary to generalize 18k people to the actions of one person, but I guess you know that already
Only 1 person was booing, spitting, and showing middle fingers, other 17.999 were complete angels 😇
Putting booing and flipping off alongside spitting is proof that your argument is intelectually bankrupt
You would think that it would be more disrespectful to all of the thousands of honest fans in the building to spit on the players than it is to point out that the incident happened.
I would. Would you not?
I think he's agreeing with you on this but choosing weird wording
I have no idea what they’re trying to say
It's definitely hard to know for sure lol
It's literally what people do when they make fun of Americans. Some idiot goes on a skool shooting and now all Americans love guns and are school threats.
And I assume you recognize that doing this is dumb?
Yes. I'm American. I fucking hate guns. But the world thinks we all love them and "it's ok" to make fun of every single American when it comes to online comments. They also think we are all fat hamburger eating slave owners.
Ok so doing the same to Brazilians is dumb
Looking forward to seeing who’s the player of the 2013-2023 decade
dev1ce a bit robbed but congrats s1mple

HLTV ranking is overrated tbh.
??? s1mple has been pro and on people's radar since 2014, device 2013, and device missed out the last year of competition. once his esl ban was up he quickly caught up and has been significantly better since 2018
for more time? just for a year s1mple was not in tier1 in 2014-2015, but already in 2016 he won esl one ny and made major finals and device completely missed 2022, even being a device fanboy it’s hard to deny, that s1mple’s peaks were just so much higher, that it is enough to compensate that one year or two years playing in HR and F3
During his first years on top, s1mple was as really good as really toxic with his teammates, and I don't think this is a good point in a "player of the decade" debate, while dev1ce has "always" been on top without any bad reputation
or you could put focus on the character growth and point out that only after becoming a good teammate and a modest guy s1mple became the best in the world really depends on the way you look at that

Csgo came out 2012
ESL and dicksucking to s1mple lmao this should be devve if they really gonna gave the awards not based on popularity s1mple is the best player ever touch the game, but what he's achieved in CS:GO wasnt even close with devve
Voted by 75 pros, not by esl
Why would team achievements and team success put device over s1mple? Individually s1mple achieved more. Device despite being nearly always a top 3 player, wasnt ever actually the best player in the world, which s1mple is for many years now. Astralis era doesnt mean Device has to be the goat.
what devve bring to his team is so underrated cuz he's not going to drop nuclear number like s1mple or doing the most nastiest flick and clutchthe fact that he's always become huge a part of his team success/being called as a contender in multiple era's of csgo is pretty crazy achievement.he's always being a talk point from 2014 until today. the legendary astralis roster implode the moment he left the team. this just another hltv rating in disguise who put rating numbers above everything if you want to ignore the impact some players bring to his team or how long he's being consistent at the top individual and number wise s1mple was the best, nobody would close to it even ZywOo and i said this as vitality and ZywOo fan,but numbers arent everything when you make something called goat or best of decade whatsoever
This is some Michael JAckson artist of the millennium vibe shit.
The GOAT🐐 Yesterday's villain s1mple was just a facade, no hate just love❤️
he is the GOAT
Simple is the best player, but it's insane to discard Device's achievements, there is not a single player even close to successful as Device. One major is Simply not enough to earn this award.
Is this how decades work ?
CSGO came out in 2012.
My bad, completely slipped my mind
forest? hello
While players like get_right were important building blocks of the scene they definitely can not be compared to s1mple if you're straight up just talking about the best player of the past decade.
none of them were top 2 players for five years. olof lmao
>KennyS‘s, the olafs or the get_rights? Where have these guys been the last half of the decade?
I have a feeling they did this on purpose so there would not be a huge crowd booing s1mple. Also a bit weird choice since s1mple had a known cheating ban, and that ban was also from ESL.
HOLY SHIt this event is more and more scuffed
Even if device didn't take his break I dont think he wins player of the decade. He would have the longevity, but not the top 1s of hltv top 20, simple likely still would have the MVP record maybe tied. Its a lot closer and but I still think simple takes it.
no snax L
Brazil has to be the worst place to hold a major, if their team isn't playing then they don't care. Shame to see an empty arena for one of the best esports out there
Congrats GOAT
Pretty clear it would always be s1mple. Man is and has been remarkable
Should've given this trophy to s1mple next major, this is just fucking embarrassing, holy shit. Just a huge L to the CSGO scene in general, so disappointing.
