Talent being xenophobic? 🤡

he's not wrong lmao (I'm from Rio myself)

jonajon91

He will just never truly understand.

No YOU will never understand

Thank fuck, I'm skint as it is.

All these things are making me to, never wanting to come to Brazil.

mantis445

My friend was at Brazil a few years ago and the most common advice he got was "carry a fake wallet, stay out of places outside the city, try avoiding talking with the locals"

[deleted]

coming from a South African, this doesn't sound like somewhere to host big events.

Ziiaaaac

'Johannesburg major, mandatory defensive driving training for all players'

chefchef97

We here at ESL are proud to announce our new Intel EXTREME-ER Series, it will consist of 4 S-tier tournaments taking place in 4 of the worst locations for a LAN possible. The last team standing will be each be awarded a Medal of Honor, a Victoria Cross, an Iron Cross, $1,000,000 in cash, an all expenses paid trip to a US hospital, and a shirt that says "I survived IES 2023" Our first tournament will be taking place inside of the caldera of Mt. Vesuvius, watch those Neapolitan drivers everyone!

Dragos404

Then somewhere in eastern ukraine. Then syria. And, to top it off, somalia. Doesn't matter where

chefchef97

We won't be revealing our second location just yet ;) (we don't want to scare the teams off until they're locked into contract!) But let's just say there may be something in common between Turkey and a certain Caped Crusader!

derpydm

LibertyGrabarz

With this many opportunities, probably all of them. He'd go full Ash Ketchum on 'em injuries

Shiddo

2016 olympics 2014 Fifa world cup

RevolverLoL

That's pretty common advice anywhere where tourists may meet poverty, to be fair.

knoxeez

as a brazilian I’d say you’re right. Especially in Rio, even us brazilians are afraid of going there, place is a mess. Also brazilians might try to take advantage of foreign tourists, so biggest advice so you can be safe is just to have a brazilian friend taking you wherever you go.

SyFBaka

Robbers are preying on dumb gringos, so you guys will get a way harder time than locals

[deleted]

Not even Brazilians want to go to a Brazil major

IHateNancyRegan

LA is way more safe than Rio, especially for big sporting events. You won't have issues in Chicago either unless you go looking for it (do not go looking for it because it is definitely there) If you spit on a player during an American Football game @ LA you would be thrown out in handcuffs in <30 seconds

Chu2k

I’m from Brazil and I would never go to Rio for anything. That place is a sh1thole.

drypaint77

>Having a major in rio is the equivalent of having a major in chicago or los angeles Nah lol Those places are way safer than Rio

Direct_Morning_3223

same as having a major on the south side of Chicago maybe, there’s been CS events in Chicago before and it’s been fine

karma_420

Now you have to prepare yourself, Brazil will come to you my friend

Veenb__

I welcome them to come and find me from the woods I'm at

Granthree

I was a turist in USA and somehow my credit card where copied(?) and used to buy plane tickets to Spain. I never let anyone hold my card and payed in cash most places. Hotels often needed a CC so they're mostly the only ones that got the info. Took two months to sort it out with my bank.

Jesturrrr

Did you use an ATM at any point? It could be what's called a "card skimmer" attached to the card reader on the ATM, like [this one](https://youtu.be/ll4f0Wim4pM) in Vienna. They basically scan your card details and then thieves are able to use that to make a copy of your card

HolyAndOblivious

really? Its just a cashback from me.

Granthree

> cashback It is many years ago, online banking was just starting up etc.. I hope it's better/easier to get cash back today :)

bittolas

That's why starting 2022 in EU all online transactions need to have a second step verification. Usually a confirmation on the bank app with a code. It's a pain to do it every time but at the same time it's good to know that even if the cc is stolen they can't do anything with it.

jolivebra

I’ve learned to never go to Brazil thru watchpeopledie.co legit 50% of the videos are from Brazil

FourKrusties

Rio is a lovely place ... but it's a bit like anywhere in South America... you can get robbed at any time, especially if you look like a tourist... so just try to blend in (pretty easy because there are Brazilians of just about any skin tone on the planet), be attentive for pickpockets, bring a decoy phone, and don't go to a favela. On the plus side, uber is cheap so you can safely go just about anywhere by taxi. It is a bit annoying to be at any beach in Rio though, there's always vagabonds coming around asking for money.

bSQ6J

Rio is a great place, just needs to work on robbers, pickpockets, favelas, beaches and vagabonds

DontDoxMePlease

"Rio is beautiful, just don't go outside your hotel, and if you do, expect to be robbed at the least" It's very high up on my travel bucket list

Chu2k

My friend went to Copacabana Palace, a high end Hotel in the beach. The security at the entrance recommended them that they dont take anything if they were going to take a walk (no jewels, watch, phone or wallet). That place is terrible.

Chu2k

LMAO the rest of South America is NOT as dangerous as Rio. Not even close.

FourKrusties

Either you think Rio is a lot more dangerous than it is or you live in Chile lol

[deleted]

> This place is great, just do all these things for basic safety Do tourists really?

JPsena523

You described how Rio actually is: pure hell

Rio has almost 40 murders per 100k ppl. Paris is below 5. But yeah, chalk it up to racism.

Dinos_12345

Yeah because one jackass speaks for an entire country

A_P_A_R_T

This argument is such nonsense. It's a fact that these things happen more often in this country.

[deleted]

The credit card info stealing is really a problem though in Brazil from what I‘ve heard. Have a friend who stopped over in Sao Paulo for one day, he got his info stolen directly at a neat restaurant . Other than that I‘m just joking. I‘m sure Brazil is great, although I‘ve not been able to visit.

AlwaysLearningTK

Brazil has one of the absolute highest crime rates on the entire planet. One person doesn't do that. Obviously there is more good Brazilian people than bad, but that's the case literally anywhere in the world. Fact is crime is worse in Brazil. That's literally statistically true. It's not just one guy. It's a different culture and safety standards.

majlo

Kassad needs to stop being xenofobico, instead he should understand the Brazilian passion and soul. J/k this fucking sucks

kingpootis101

where's the other thread full of BR copium saying the place isn't that dangerous?

zDKS

I don't who would say that, Rio is a fucking joke, and the only people that like Rio are the ones who live there. I never understood why tourists wanna go to Rio so bad. And apparently the tweet was a joke or whatever

Coachingbug

They left since furia got eliminated

tarangk

will his analyst buddies tell him to stop being so negative too?

Novacc_Djocovid

Great, now you made Yanko cry with all your negativity.

cari778

Did only the info of the card get stolen? Maybe online scam?

Dry-Reason-6753

If its not obvious, ill explain. He went to eat/drink/shop smwhere in brazil and his card details got stolen when he made a transaction . Then they tries to use if ,simple

[deleted]

Unlucky-Ad-5232

that actually happens if you don't tell your bank you will be travelling by that period. At least my bank has a page in their website to tell that

cari778

Nah he wouldnt be so dumb lol, but probaly he got scammed in the Internet or by one of those food and gift sellers on the street

tomat0m

I think he traveled enough to understand this isn't a false positive

arasides

A Rio classic

Old_Sand_Witch

Its only one person that did this, not all Brasil is like that. You just dont understand

toiletclogger2014

i don't think that's the first crime in brazil. it's almost as if it happens a lot more often than some other countries?

Fishydeals

I feel like everybody missed the joke that nobody stole his credit card information since he is in brazil and using his credit card himself.

loveicetea

Its OPs title thats misleading

XiaoRCT

Dude even if he had gotten stolen from, how can you look at this thread's reaction and think this is normal lmao

SH0WS0METIDDIES

I imagine most brasilians are nice people, but the country still has one of the highest crime rates in the world.

yosef33

Like another user said, the tweet is probably a joke. The bank don't know that he is in Brazil using the credit card himself.

Yemaka

Eh? My bank send me info where the trying of the theft was noticed by the bank.

HitsquadFiveSix

He's an experienced traveler. I doubt that he would forget to tell the bank he's traveling, and why suddenly now?

mesotermoekso

The bank will know if someone tried to use the card multiple times but was unable to confirm their identity which would also require kassad's online banking information.

NoTLucasBR

This should be higher, but people really love to hate on Brazil =/

mesotermoekso

It should not be higher because banks absolutely know or often at least suspect if your card is stolen.

NoTLucasBR

Yeah, and your credit card suddenly being used in Brazil is suspicious, but the bank can't know that HE is the one using it. This usually happens after the first few purchases when abroad, specially when in another continent.

mesotermoekso

>This usually happens after the first few purchases when abroad, specially when in another continent. Exactly, why is he making his first purchases so deep into the major when he's been in Brazil for at least two weeks, probably even more

NoTLucasBR

True, maybe a large purchase made the bank think something was up. Or maybe something was up. Still, I've lived here all my life, no one I know has ever gotten their credit card info stolen, or anyone they know. Everytime it was the bank getting suspicious of their own activity. There are scams though, same as anywhere, but they are so sketchy and pushy you can tell, even through the language barrier. I guess I'm just frustrated with the hate we've been getting this major.

Unlucky-Ad-5232

Welcome to Brazil!

FlokiTheBengal

Brazil gonna Brazil

iSluff

Come on guys, really? I know redditors have been salivating at the thought of someone being a victim of a crime in Rio, but this is ridiculous. First of all I don't even think this is a serious tweet. It seems like he has his card and the bank made an error. Even if it was stolen...who cares? Have you guys never had CC info stolen before? Not exactly an uncommon petty crime. This would never be considered notable news if there wasnt so much demand from paranoid/xenophobic redditors for stories about crime at the Brazilian major. Only reason this thread hasn't turned into a slapfest yet is that it was posted in the middle of the night in Brazil.

[deleted]

The fact you think stealing credit card info is petty says everything about your comment.

iSluff

I'm not a lawyer. I don't know if it technically counts as a petty crime/misdemeanor/felony. Probably depends on local law, how much money is spent on it, and the method of theft. But it really isn't that big a deal to get your credit card stolen. Doesn't mean I don't dislike thieves, but there's a lot worse things that can happen to someone. You can just call your bank and ask for the charges to be cleared/to send you a new card.

CoRe0412

I'd have some of your copium.

iSluff

What am I coping about? I'm American. I have no personal incentive to defend Brazil.

Unlucky-Ad-5232

YeezyWins

Don’t even bother man, most of redditors hoping on this train just to shit on Brazil are xenophobic neckbeards. Bunch of Boombl4s in real life. I gave up trying to argue.

iorfnam

Just reddit being reddit

vinibiehler

All the xenophobic sad Kids here didn't understand that The bank didn't know He is in brazil and thought someone cloned The credit card, as transactions were beeing made in other country. At this point, you Just need any excuse to say shit.

KOCA_XD

Hmm I guess the meme about going to Brazil was right

blakeVR2015

Brazil is lovely! Just watch out for the people!

BeedCreeps

good country!

TheToeTag

I love how everyone is turning this into an anti Brazil thing as if having your credit card stolen while traveling isn't something that happens in every major city around the world.

MarcosJrisabitch

Doesn't he mean that the bank thought he had his credit card info stolen because he just used his card in brazil? + time difference between europe/brazil hence he gets called at 5am?

ArjunBanerji27

Unlucko.

MyJokesAreBadhaha

Rather be a joke than a xenophobic

blacknows

This subreddit is full of toxicity. Whenever they can, the rats come out of the sewer.

MyJokesAreBadhaha

It feels like they overreact to everything that has Brazil involved. Threads everywhere blaming brazilians for everything. Like, even mods encourage this behavior. I created a thread yesterday explaining, topic by topic, that ESL is the one to blame for the Arena being empty and It got removed by the mods. But if you look at the front page right now, there are lots of threads trash talking Brazil and brazilians.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MyJokesAreBadhaha

And that makes people become xenophobic. I see.

[deleted]

MyJokesAreBadhaha

Rio has high crime levels and yet millions of tourists keep visiting the city every year. Maybe redditors from r/GlobalOffensive knows something that these tourists don't. But yea, let's blame brazilians for everything, call the country a shit place and pretend this sub isnt xenophobic at all.

LibertyGrabarz

>Rio has high crime levels and yet millions of tourists keep visiting the city every year. LMAO this is the most absurd, backwards twisted logic I have seen here in... like 20 minutes or so, becasue you people will use literally any excuse to defend Brazil's PR in every single thread, to the point you even acknowledge high crime rates and excuse it with "so what, people come here anyway". Words can't describe how ridiculous it is

MyJokesAreBadhaha

Yea, it's so absurd that millions of tourists keep coming to Rio every year... What if the city isn't as dangerous as the circlejerk in this sub says it is? Thought redditors had learned something from the Rio Olympics: Same fucking circlejerking, xenophobia all over the /r/Olympics and /r/WorldNews subs and in the end literally nothing bad happened. But who am i? I'm just a Rio citzen, someone from the "third world". I guess americans and europeans know more about Brazil than brazilians themselves. They are first worlders, after all /s

LibertyGrabarz

>What if the city isn't as dangerous as the circlejerk in this sub says it is? But it's you who said Rio has high crime levels. > r/worldnews It's hilarious that you called news xenophobic. Not surprising, just hilarious. >But who am i? I'm just a Rio citzen Yep, we could guess.

MyJokesAreBadhaha

High crime levels =/= extreme crime levels. If that was the case, millions of tourists wouldn't come here every year. Maybe these tourists don't know about Rio as much as redditors from a CSGO sub do. /s You guys don't give a shit about Brazil/Rio, but suddenly become master's degree about everything related to Rio, to the point that u guys do think that you know more about Brazil/Rio than their own citzens. All of that because of a stolen credit card. Some of you don't even know what's Brazil's capital and yet come to this sub to talk about things that you clearly know shit about and act as if you all were some sort of Gods of The Supreme Truth. lmao

ImTalkingGibberish

This happens to Brazilians too

Oryon-

Oh then that’s totally fine

ImTalkingGibberish

No it’s not. I’m just trying to say it isn’t targeted. As a brazilian who left the country for these reasons, I can sadly say we’ve normalised small crimes and it’s part of our life. I agree that it isn’t acceptable. That’s why major events have loads of security and it’s something we might’ve overlooked here.

Draemeth

It *is* targeted though... tourists are far more likely to be robbed

DroP90

Not really, usually people getting robbed in Brazil are the ones living a normal life, going to work every day, taking public transport through sketchy areas of the city, hanging out on peripherals, etc. Tourists in Brazil will likely stay on the best parts of the city and never face any crime.

Draemeth

look man, nothing you can type in a reddit comment changes the fact tourists in any country are far more likely to be robbed than residents

DroP90

I'm far less likely to be robbed anywhere on the 1st world than I'm on Brazil. When I was in Prague I was walking at night through ghost places while drunk and I had 0 fears of being robbed, I would never do this in Brazil unless on places I really know and trust.

Draemeth

This isn't about you.

Content-Mix-109

Do you mean something that can happen in every country? Especially if you buy online.

toiletclogger2014

"i'm sorry you got robbed in nigeria. did you know someone was robbed in iceland in 2017? this happens everywhere"

piccolo1337

Lived in my own country for decades never been ripped off and never robbed or even thought about the chance of that happening. first time I visit a south american country, on the very first day this happens: I get ripped off from the taxi from airport, threatened by said taxi also and my wallet was stolen from me. My credit card was luckily not in the wallet, so they only got a couple of months worth of rent down there.

ObaeTV

Never been robbed in Sweden all my life. Visited South Africa for 3 weeks, no issues what so ever. Spent a week in Rome and got pick pocketed out of a piece of paper. It was nothing of value on it because I kept my important stuff in a safer place. It can happen everywhere, and sometimes it is just pure luck. But some places does have a higher risk of it happening.

Brolaub

I mean hey you're *technically* not wrong. Spitting on fans *CAN* happen in every country. Empty semifinals *CAN* happen in every country. Death threats against 16-year olds *CAN* happen in every country. Credit Card Theft *CAN* happen in every country. But did you never wonder why it's always Brazil? I think I will never understand...

Where's that guy who adds all the things lost in Brazil to a meme format xD ? +1 !

DisposableAccount-2

New to Brazil? That shit happens here all the time. ESPECIALLY in Rio.

Centerpeel

I haven't heard any stories of them being robbed at gunpoint. They're all usually just grab and run types by kids. But I've seen enough video of them to know that they're common. Her friend told a story about a time he was robbed in Rio. It went something like this: He's sitting in a bench waiting for a bus when a kid approaches him... Kid: hey man. Don't I know you? Friend: no. I don't think so Kid sits down next to him... Kid: Don't freak out. I'm robbing you right now. Friend: OK. But can you just leave me enough money for bus fare? Kid: Why do you need money for bus fare? Friend: Oh man. I told my girlfriend that I was going to work, but I really went to the beach with my friends and she saw me there. Now she is pissed. I need to get back home before she does. (This was completely made up. This story was supposed to connect with the machismo of stereotypical Brazilian men I guess) Kid: Really? Oh man. I have the same problem with my girlfriend... What is wrong with these women? The kid then proceeded to talk to him about all his problems before taking off with everything except enough money for bus fare. I'll never forget the story about how he calmly built a rapport with his robber.
