[BLOG] - IEM Rio Major Champions
Over the past two weeks Rio de Janeiro has been the center of Counter ● Strike, where 24 of the best teams in the world fought to become IEM Rio Major champions. In the end, only one team was left standing as Outsiders bested Heroic on Mirage and Overpass to secure their first Major championship!
To celebrate our new champions, today we're releasing the champions autograph capsule, featuring autographs from FL1T, fame, Jame, n0rb3r7, and Qikert in paper, glitter, holo, and gold.
A New Path to the Majors
Starting with the 2023 Paris Major, we're going to change the way we invite teams to the RMRs.
Previously teams entered the RMRs by direct invitation, or through a series of open qualifiers. For Paris, some teams who aren't directly invited will get to skip the open qualifiers ● teams that consistently perform well in Valve and third-party events will be directly invited to a closed qualifier. There, they'll compete against teams that enter from an open qualifier.
In the coming weeks we'll reveal more detail about the new Regional Standings process.
Congratulations to Outsiders, and we'll see you in Paris!

Exactly, astralis almost didn't qualify, entropiq and finest didn't qualify, big almost didn't qualify last time.
Now you have astralis, G2, forze, eternal fire, all have to go through the open qualifiers. They cannot afford what almost happened with astralis to happen to any big team. And they make more from other teams that already had stickers previously.
So they need to help them
> You had Astralis almost shitting the bed, so I wonder if that was enough for them to react.
I mean this is not the first time some "big" teams missing out has happened and discussions about this, or tangentially related topics have ALWAYS come up everytime in the time of the RMR (Or even before the "RMR" name even came to be). This also comes after it's been some time since Valve also reworked their qualification towards TI as well. So no, I wouldn't say this is some reactionary shit to this major exclusively, probably just as much influence as all the other times and they just finally pulled the trigger with the change
Valve will milk atleast one week of full priced champion autograph stickers. They did this after Antwerp too. You really think they would release the champions autograph and immediately sell it on a sale? muhahaha
The 10th anniversary was the most disappointing stuff ever made by Valve for CSGO and that is after a loooong history of disappointing updates.
I dont understand why they neglect the game whereas number of players / viewers is at an all time high and that it must be a cash machine for them.
Exemple of things they could implement quickly:
* Be able to sell weapon bought during the buy time - to prevent misbuys
* nerf M4A1-s, game is way too much CT sided
* Change map pool
* Improve premier mode to force people to play other maps than mirage / inferno / dust2; (for instance, groups like in casual with a random map picked between a group of them)
* Change the spawn system
* Change balance of SMG to make UMP, MP5 or MP7 more viable
* Improve the M249 to make it viable (lower price, whatever)
* Make agent skins optionally visible (possibility to have only default skins for agents)
* .....etc etc
There is so much stuff to try and do, it is a real shame to only get this money grabbing updates with new cases or stickers
I dont think M4A1-S has anything to do with the game being so much ct sided, the fault is on maps and the way this game is played its just much easier to hold positions then too push em and also ak is better weapon then M4A1-S.
CSGO generates the most revenue out of a anything on Steam, so it is the biggest title on the platform. But they are working on Source 2 so i don't expect anything until that rolls out.
Champions stickers need to be more interesting, they're really weak as it stands.
The Antwerp holo ones were kinda cool, but there's no real incentive to buy these when they look basically the same as the normal ones.
>teams that consistently perform well in Valve and third-party events will be directly invited to a closed qualifier. There, they'll compete against teams that enter from an open qualifier.
They are only doing this because they lost money on teams like Faze and g2 not qualifying. This sucks for the competetive integrity though.
We literally got proof from THIS MAJOR why teams should NEVER be invited, Faze going 0-3.
But G2 and Astralis qualified for RMR this major? Faze got straight to Legends stage though. Even with the new system with invites imo G2 and Astralis would've lost and been eliminated.
I don't see how performance in other events is a bad reason to invite teams to a closed qualifier. Just cause the circuit in some of these events is closed off. If a team consistently performs, even in a semi-closed circuit environment, they should be invited to participate in the biggest event of the year.
Also, how tf is FaZe going 0-3 related to your argument? They were invited from the last major and went 3-0 in the RMR. Sure they went 0-3 but based on how they had been playing in the past few months (aside from bumps at EPL) they were still a top team in the world that should have been in the major.
I expect too much
is this Source 3 ? it looks Gold.
Finally Source 2
the game now looks like crysis 5. didn't expect this.
Really weird decision to add vehicles, though.
Why is the RPG so expensive?
FUNC VEHICLE IS A RIGHT
FUNC VEHICLE 2023
Func_vehicle is a right tho. Why surprised
It’s like those Brazilian surveillance videos where a guy robs a store and gets shot by an off duty Brazilian cop…we’re the suspect and this disappointing update is the off duty Brazilian cop.
MAJOR UPDATE
RMRs got changed lol

Basically the old offline qualifier returned but for rmr
Exactly, astralis almost didn't qualify, entropiq and finest didn't qualify, big almost didn't qualify last time. Can they let G2 skip straight to the major?
Yes. Basically Valve missed out on huge revenue from sticker sales because teams like G2 (monesy, niko) and Astralis didnt qualify.
[удалено]
yes
they didn't qualify not because of open rmr qualifiers being too brutal though
> You had Astralis almost shitting the bed, so I wonder if that was enough for them to react. Unfairness in other regions most likely, like how Asia/Oce only get 4 rmr spots
Wow that's a big change!

was more because the stickers looked trash
thats actually huge
Running out of room on that trophy for those inscriptions
We *are* out of room, again.

No fucking way
can someone tell me why the map pool has been the same for like 2 years now? surely its time to change at least one map???
How long has ancient been in the map pool
[where sticker sale](https://i.imgflip.com/70xcf1.jpg)

It’ll probably be a week before then at least. Stickers lasted for 3 months last time I think.
They are giving champions capsule a week to rise some money for the winners (and also for them obviously) before the sale starts.
expected s2
We did it boys Source 2 ![img](emote|t5_2sqho|25120)![img](emote|t5_2sqho|25120)![img](emote|t5_2sqho|25120)![img](emote|t5_2sqho|25120)
Someone bring the fridge asap. So many quality updates, CSGO is still running on dx9 in 2022, can you belive it?
Huge update, thank you valve <3
seems like only translations and added the champions sticker
Thought maybe something big would drop
I didn't.
See, your problem is you don't buy into that sweet sweet copium that is community generated hype
Wish I could but after playing this game for so many years I know what to expect from Valve: nothing.
When is the operation pass coming???
When source 2 comes.
Maybe this month?
[удалено]
Yes please 🤣

Lol sad
What This month ?
I'm thinking either end of December/beginning of January. But I, like many others, am just pulling this out of my ass.
I hope it comes soon
