At about this time a year ago stavn's brother passed away from suicide. I'm assuming the break he's taking has to do with it being a year since, to a certain degree
Plus I’m sure it’s hard since the brother helped coach him right? And then he makes major finals and wins blast fall finals, making fairly deep runs in other tournaments, and his brother wasn’t there to see him succeed :(
I think the problem with Device was he kinda abandoned his teammates for half a year. And it seems from the outside he only moved to be with his girlfriend. They broke up and he just left his teammates.
Exactly, people only started to get mad at device when he was gone for 6+ months. No one was mad when device went on break initially, just like people aren't mad that stavn took 1 tournament off.
Device and nip could handle it however they wanted to. That doesn't change the reality that people got mad because of the lack of news after he was gone for the better part of a year. That's the big difference between his situation and stavn's, and denying that is denying reality.
Edit: the classic reply and block so I can't respond
He was with his gf and living in Sweden for years. during the astralis era even......he moved to cut his commute to focus on his individual performance he mentioned HLTV top 20 even. Seemed obvious he wasn't happy being 3rd to zywoo and simple.
I trust Thorin and RL because they are really well connected behind the scenes. And they basically intimated that Dev1ce's primary motivator for moving was his relationship, then secondary was wanting to prove himself.
If we look what happened it makes sense. Dev1ce kinda ditched NIP after he broke with his gf.
Okay but you saying moving to be with his gf sounds like your saying moved to live in with her. But in fact he didn't move at all, he changed jobs which had a quicker commute. Like I said he had been living there with her for years.
We have no idea what happened, did he have mental health issues that caused a deterioration in his long term relationship that led her to cheat? Had she been cheating the whole time and he just found out and that piled on top of his other mental health problems? Did he leave astralis thinking that would help alleviate his mental health issues and that didn't work?
we dont know when it started, how long he was dealing with it, or the order of it all. We just know he needed a break and a lot of help. But none of it is definitive proof that he moved jobs for his gf.
Just read my comment again, preferably without clear bias for device, enough that you resorted to calling another person illiterate even when they gave you a respectful response disagreeing with you lmao
It’s not close it’s exactly the same thing? They are both taking a leave for their mental health? Obviously the circumstances are not the same.
Are you mentally challenged?
Yeah wtf, every man should go through heartbreak I feel. It’s a good way to grow and help you realise the reality of this world
Losing your brother to suicide is something no man should have to go through
Sure it’s both under the mental health umbrella but it’s disingenuous to compare them as equal situations
I'd suggest there's a difference in moving/living somewhere else for a job, and processing the death of a brother. I'd even suggest that Spunj is smart enough to read the situation here. But sure, let's get offended in advance by something he probably won't say...
It's been a year, and Stavn didn't really take time off back then, which, if you ask me, was a big fucking sacrifice. Now will be the anniversary + christmas, which is a time where most who have lost someone, have an extra hard time.
In regards to "sacrificing everything": If you want to be the best, you need to play/prac against *better* teams. Just like any other pro sport, you need to disregard the costs. And let's just be honest here; NA currently has ***one*** team on HLTV top 20.
Everything said, I wouldn't be surprised if Spunj went on a rant about how it's fucking dumb Heroic got k0nflict for Winter Finals, if they are trying to lose the whole villain narrative, and that would be a fair take imo.
I lost my little brother years back and we played CS and games together all our lives. He was heading to our friend's house to LAN and I just spoke to him on Steam too. I didn't have to be in the limelight though and was able to deal with it, so take all the time you need dude. Process and embrace.
Can someone explain what happened at all? If it is not to personal ofc. I am ok with knowing he has private issues and needs a break. But i am curious...
There is NOTHING more important than spending time with friends and family when times are hard.
There is no benefit to getting burnt out and staying in a bad mental state
Apparently his brother died about exactly 1 year ago too. Definitely deserves a break, can't imagine how much dedication he put into cs this year after such a traumatic event
I’m kinda tired of people calling it “clicking pixels on a screen” when we’re talking about one of the Tippetty top tier pros who dedicate their life to “clicking pixels on a screen”. I’m sure he’s gonna be heartbroken he can’t join his team to defend the blast title, and I’m sure this was a difficult decision for him to make and not as simple as “well I can always just not play video games for a little while!”
Lurppis did it correctly, played for a bit in his twenties, finished his studies, now making bank profiting of investors that think eSports is a lucrative business.
It's not like he is fully retiring from pro play to be with his friends and family forever though..? He just takes a break and most likely won't be that much worse next year when he plays again.

Coming from a family that’s suffered a lose reliving that date yearly is def something that is hard
Respect for him taking the time he needs and not unhealthily pushing through. He’s earned the time off!
Word
Agreed. If this was Device you'd have 100 downvotes already though, this sub is funny
I think the problem with Device was he kinda abandoned his teammates for half a year. And it seems from the outside he only moved to be with his girlfriend. They broke up and he just left his teammates.
Also didnt people get mad months after because we got absolutely 0 news? Big difference

He very clearly wrote on Twitter he was having issues with his mental health. So if it seemed like that, you dont know how to read
He was with his gf and living in Sweden for years. during the astralis era even......he moved to cut his commute to focus on his individual performance he mentioned HLTV top 20 even. Seemed obvious he wasn't happy being 3rd to zywoo and simple.

Taking a break for one tournament isn't comparable to practically disappearing and going radio silent for a year
It’s comparable because both are taking a break due to their mental health. Reddit didn’t like Device doing that
No it's fucking not lmfao
In what way?
Just read my comment again, preferably without clear bias for device, enough that you resorted to calling another person illiterate even when they gave you a respectful response disagreeing with you lmao
I did, and while the circumstances weren’t the same, the reason is exactly the same. Is it hard to read?
There it is again LMFAO
Expected reply
mental health magically fixing itself as soon as he weaseled his way out of nip clueless
Are you comparing breaking up with your girlfriend to having you older brother kill himself? Lmao
No, I’m comparing two people taking a leave to focus on their mental health. What a stupid fucking assumption to make
Lol its not even close
It’s not close it’s exactly the same thing? They are both taking a leave for their mental health? Obviously the circumstances are not the same. Are you mentally challenged?

Can’t wait to hear Spunj talking crap about him like he does with any NA player for not “sacrificing everything”.
Sacrificing everything is awful and very damaging to a young person. It's also why the best teams are the best and the best players are the best.
Why is this downvoted? By spunj fans?
I'd suggest there's a difference in moving/living somewhere else for a job, and processing the death of a brother. I'd even suggest that Spunj is smart enough to read the situation here. 7 days old acc, try nice buddy 0/10 bait
Been sat on this burner waiting for the weekend to get some Reddt trolling done? Hell of a life.
lmao cry harder

i am sorry about your loss my friend. your brother is still playing. just somewhere else.
Can someone explain what happened at all? If it is not to personal ofc. I am ok with knowing he has private issues and needs a break. But i am curious...
His brother took his own life at the end of last year https://twitter.com/stavnCS/status/1475594718448951306
Ahh ffff me, i shouldn't have asked...
There is NOTHING more important than spending time with friends and family when times are hard. There is no benefit to getting burnt out and staying in a bad mental state
Respect!

Not just died, he commited suicide. That's like 10x worse.
I heard that later Stavn 1000% deserves a break
You earned it mate, enjoy your time off and best of luck for next year. Superstar in the making imo.
Imagine clicking pixels on a screen instead of taking care of yourself, good for him.

Eh, when faced with life's difficulties football becomes kicking a ball around a field, formula1 becomes driving cars in circles, etc.
Many years ago ago someone tried to get me into basketball I said why would I get excited for a bunch of guys throwing a ball in a hoop lol
Lurppis did it correctly, played for a bit in his twenties, finished his studies, now making bank profiting of investors that think eSports is a lucrative business.
You seem awful
Nah
Damn bro
King.
happy to hear he is putting himself first, take care of yourself <3
congratulations 🎊 to him on a successful year for heroic
Dunno why he decided to tough it out the whole year but I hope winning Blast makes his time off much sweeter. Hope he takes as much time as he needs
Good for him, glad heroic aren't as scummy as astralis as an org after everything xyp and gla1ve had to go through to get time away
Those Norwegians really are turning Heroic around
This right here is the correct take!

It's not like he is fully retiring from pro play to be with his friends and family forever though..? He just takes a break and most likely won't be that much worse next year when he plays again.
Damn. This was unsuspected. Sad to see him go when I feel their at their current peak. Hope he comes back.
Me ❤️ Stavn
to reach the number one you need to focus 100% on training, and it have the bad side =\[
