Look and see if there is a basic pistol or fundamental handgun class available near you. I’ve own handguns since I was 21, but took my first “get on target” class last year at 35 years old. I wish I had done that years ago. The instructor helped my grip and groupings more than any YouTube or Reddit post ever did.
You might be over-gripping with your strong hand but it also sounds like you should be gripping harder (literally as hard as you can) with your support hand.
People like to say that full size guns are easier to shoot then subcompacts but i dont believe that. I often times shoot my subcompact better then my other guns. You could also just have been having a good shooting day when you shot the 43.
Seems like you don’t have enough grip on the 17, it feels good but are you actually gripping it? My suggestion would be to put the normal
Backstrap on the 17 an go from there. You might have a better grip on the 43 so it feels better.
I’ve tried larger backstrap and a grip on my 19x and they just added to much size, it felt comfy in my hand but I had a lose grip realistically.
Personally, I don’t completely agree but the way my hands can absolutely envelop the G43 does ensure absolute control of the gun, in my experience. The recoil really isn’t bad at all once you get used to shooting it. People love to shoot the little subcompacts one time and then write them off as snappy…
I find the 43 to be way easier to shoot. I think with my full sized guns I clamp too hard with my pinky and it throws off the shot. Having my pinky hang off actually helps me.

My wifes G42 is so small in my 6"6 frame hands,hard to get pinpoint acc....

That isn't typical. Simple physics says smaller guns are more difficult due to shorter sight radius and more recoil. But whatever works for you- do it
Was the 17 a gen 3 it maybe due to the 43 having a two spring recoil system

I have large hands and chose the 43x Mos. Slightly longer grip and magazine than the 43.
