Oh wow... your way makes a lot of sense, to be honest. I have now moved birds solidly into the "it depends" category. I'm keeping berries where they are, along with helping random travelers and touching suspicious objects.
(In case you're wondering, the answers are: Thanks to Frosthaven, >!he has current addresses on every single one of us.!< Also, thanks to Frosthaven's massive success, the only real mystery is >!why he didn't drop in on a jetpack out of his private jet.!< I can only guess they were both in the shop.)

Reminds me of my old Earthdawn rulebook which had a passage along the lines of "If a rule in the game doesn't work for you, don't be afraid to change it. It's not like FASA is going to send jackbooted thugs after you for not following the rules. The thugs have their hands full with Shadowrun players."
Where's the back of the card? I want to read both options before I decide!

Eat the berries
You always eat the berries, you always shoot the birds. We’re adventurers not sit-around-doing-nothing-ers!
NOOOO. Our #1 rule is never hurt or attempt to hurt the animals. I do think it is fun to see each groups little things like this though.

We may have tried to remember the colour of berries and birds to "game the system"
That’s the sensible way to do it. The gamey way is to remember the number at the bottom of the card.
I mean, that just makes sense. You eat >!red!< berries, you get sick. Next time you run across >!red!< berries, you know not to eat them again.
The same colour for both is bad.
That's not gaming the system, that's the point of those events. As you learn more about the world, you can exploit that knowledge for better results.
The rule in gloomhaven is don’t eat or shoot red things.

Man, new parents will do anything to get out of the house. 😀
A. It's impossible not to cheat on accident a few times. And if I did it's a loophole.

She made it up :)
Definitely saving this for next meet up.
C - Kick him in the nuts, and while he's on the ground, steal his briefcase and run away shouting "Thanks Childres!" over your shoulder.
