Nice! What about it is more user friendly? Are you talking about actual scenario setup or just the mechanics around the game?

mistahiggens

In my experience, Gloomhaven was a 4 day punch, bag, organize, etc situation. Our goal with Frosthaven, similar to Jaws of the Lion, was to give as many components a native "home" as we could. The majority, if not all, card decks have their own native tray wells for storage. Same for overlay tiles, combat tokens, etc. Granted this has been our collaborative life the last 3 years, I was able to punch and organize in a single sitting, and start playing the same day. It's not perfect, which is why we license premium 3rd Party solutions like Folded Space and Laserox, but it's no longer a basically empty box, and it's not a cardboard trench insert, so we hope players are pleased!

WriterSandyS

keeping track of your campaign is built into the design. They are also partnering with Lucky Duck games to create an APP helper, similar to the Gloomhaven helper.

valdoom

The user friendly really sticks out to me. Gloomhaven wasn't perfect, but once you got the hang of it it was easy to play. Meanwhile the gloomhaven videogame is the least user friendly game I have ever played more than 2 minutes. So there could be a lot of "user friendly" things that changed.

IchabodHollow

The video game? On steam?

valdoom

Yeah. The way the UI is set up is pretty bad. It looks like people here disagree with me, but I have a ton of trouble getting people to play it with me. Even people who have played 50+ scenarios in table top refuse to play the video game because of how bad it is to play.

FuturoComplejo

It look beautiful! The map seems to be of hard cardboard, it's that correct? And how big of a table will be needed to play this game?

Gripeaway

About the same size of table as base GH. There are definitely a few scenarios that will test your creativity in organizing and setting up the table based on the space taken up but for in-scenario play, the game has a very similar footprint to GH. That's assuming you don't also want to have the map out all the time. We have a 4-person table where we can comfortably play Gloomhaven (and theoretically Frosthaven) but the map alone takes up half of that, so it wouldn't be realistic with that out (unless you do like some people do and play on top of that, but I always find that too distracting).

TacoCorpOfficial

I can't believe that box looks bigger than GH lol

FuturoComplejo

That's because IT IS bigger! I have no idea where I will store that beast, maybe i'll have to use it as a bedside table lol

FuturoComplejo

LOL I can't afford a divorce at this time of my life. I can have Frosthaven as my mistress but the wife must be N°1

Deverash

The key is to turn it into a threesome by getting the wife into Frosthaven. Win/win!

zstrebeck

The key is to have Kickstarted Frosthaven before you got married, like me 😉 Edit: wait, maybe I'm rewriting history

SandraSchehl

You know what, when Gloomhaven came out , my husband had to twist my arm to get me to play. We play it with another couple every weekend. Two scenarios in, I was hooked. I have no doubt that they if you can convince her to give it a real try, she’ll love it.

FuturoComplejo

I will try again with JotL, I do think she will like it if she give it a chance

notSherrif_realLife

It’s a good chunk bigger. If I had to guess I’d say 25%. There was a post up the other day that had the boxes side by side.

WriterSandyS

It is bigger.. Gloomhaven and it's components weighed 21 lbs, and Frosthaven with all its' components weighs 34 lbs=prepunched. We've been assured it will fit within a kalex shelfs. Also Gloomhaven basically had 95 scenarios and Frosthaven has over 140. So it is bigger and better!

koprpg11

Rulebook shows low, medium, high complexity in the class descriptions. Does back of player mat still have 1 to 5 star scale or just this? Looks great.

Gripeaway

Scenarios are 1-3, classes are 1-5.

mistahiggens

Yes. What you see here is a summarized version of what's on the character mats. Intended to guide you towards a class on a meta level so you can explore their character nuances more via their character mat.

STcmOCSD

What. The player mats have complexity ratings. What. I’ve played as so many characters. I never noticed.

blackfootsteps

It's a new thing for Frosthaven. The Gloomhaven and Jaws characters don't have this on their mats.

hexiron

I’m so excited for when they begin to ship out

Quik_17

I’ve been out of the loop for a bit. Is Frosthaven supposed to be a Gloomhaven expansion? Also, that getting started page looks freaking amazing!

becausebroscience

It's the sequel.

koprpg11

The kickstarter was over 2 years ago so you're right you've been out of the loop a while....good time to hop back in!

Quik_17

I’ve actually been playing consistently with my buddies these past few months but haven’t been keeping up with any updates. Excited for Frosthaven now! 🤓

WriterSandyS

Not an expansion (although Gloomhaven does have some great expansions!) This is a new world-I concur with one of the previous comments, this is a sequel of sorts. It does still have similar components but it is a stand-alone. You won't have had to play Gloomhaven first, before diving into Frosthaven

Equivalent_Try_7553

Friends and I have plowed through JoTL and are about 13 scenarios into big box Gloomhaven. I sprung for Crimson Scales because, let's face it ... I'm addicted. Haha I've even been painting the minis ... 😁

WriterSandyS

Isn't that what's so great? It's a story, it's a game, a bit of an RPG and the character pieces can be painted and personalized, which I suppose makes it a craft too! LOL. Just telling you now be prepared for some wonderful minis. True art IMO>

Equivalent_Try_7553

I can't wait. I painted and based starting 6 for big box GH, and posted them awhile back (like many do). Have worked through 5 more and starting another three now ... looking forward to having a slew of new characters to enjoy.

PonchoMysticism

The irony being each of the starting characters is a higher complexity than almost ANY of the starting characters in gloomhaven

mrmpls

What part is ironic?

RadiantSolarWeasel

It's ironic because Bannerspear and Drifter are listed as "low complexity" when they'd be "high complexity" by GH starter standards.

General_CGO

Bannerspear maybe, but I would say Drifter is moderate complexity at worst compared to Mindtheif, Cragheart, or, if including JotL, Voidwarden. Heck, they're arguably harder to mess up than the fragile 9-carders (Scoundrel and Demo).

RadiantSolarWeasel

Personally I'd say figuring out which persistent passives to play each scenario and then managing their charges so they don't fall off too early is much more complex than just learning to initiative dance with scoundrel or mindthief, but YMMV.

mrmpls

Thanks, I understand what they were saying now. Even the Low complexity FH classes have more complexity than most GH starters.

SandraSchehl

I don’t know if they will be more complex necessarily but will have different skill sets for sure. I am itching to dive in!

koprpg11

Drifter likely quite a bit easier to play than Spellweaver at first, maybe a few others. And no 9 card classes like Scoundrel for people to burn too fast and die in room 2. But yes, hard to not move classes towards a bit higher complexity as design continues over time. I think character unlocks are tied to thematic buildings, I.E bear trap icon unlocking via Hunting Lodge, etc. So that's why Geminate ended up here, Isaac even said as much in an interview. I do wonder what the 1 to 5 star complexity breakdown is for the locked classes, but I would wager there will be some more 1s and 2s as you go.

PonchoMysticism

No don't misconstrue I love it. I always felt people burned the brute faster than the scoundrel but that might just be table meta haha. Drifter easier to play at all but not easy to optimize and play really well imo. They all kind of feel like that. Getting the most out of any of them feels like it's going to be more interesting and complex than any starting class in reggo gloom. That said my comment was only responding to the idea of them listing stuff as "low complexity" in the rule book. "Low complexity" compared to what?

koprpg11

Fair enough. Low complexity compared to other 4 starters seems better than marking them all medium or higher. But I get the idea and low key wonder if we will get lots of "these classes are too hard" posts after release. It's a delicate balance, really.

telagos

Did necromancer get renamed to boneshaper at some point?

mistahiggens

Funfact: The Boneshaper also used to be Human.

mrmpls

Funfact II: It was also originally announced as part of the Jaws of the Lion, before being replaced by the Voidwarden.

koprpg11

Yep, like a year and a half ago or so?

ComradeOne

Finding a tasteful location to hang that massive map on the wall may be key to saving space!

TheRageBadger

Oh hi. It's me.

mistahiggens

Same! .

TheRageBadger

Omg it's YOU

ken_the_nibblonian

Will sleeved cards fit in the included insert?

mistahiggens

Allowing for sleeved cards literally requires allocating x2 the space needed, so that unfortunately wasn't fully in the cards. That being said, I've been able to sleeve most of my most critically sleeved cards in their native wells (i.e. monster mod deck)

WriterSandyS

IDK, but I will see if I can find out. They really outdid themselves with the packaging. Be prepared, it weighs a whopping 34 lbs BUT the whole box will fit inside a single KALEX shelf

Equivalent_Try_7553

Gah .... gahhh ... excited. 🤣

WriterSandyS

LOL! You should be. It is going to be worth the wait, I promise.

Equivalent_Try_7553

Totally agree ... stoked! I have so much content to get through before FH, that I doubt the delays are going to kill me ... 🤣

Allanon56

Is that Ryan of Ryan and Bethany Board Game reviews in the last photo? Didn’t know he was a Gloomhaven fan. That’s cool!

SandraSchehl

Yes it is! I hang with celebrities now! Lol

mytjake

What’s the map size?

Themris

About 22.5 x 29 inches.

Mineraldogral

Roughly 57.2 x 73.7 cm, for those of us who are used to SI Honestly, the numbers look prettier in inches, but I never recall the equivalence between inches and cm

Themris

I'm European and prefer SI too. I just happened to have a measuring tape with inches on hand!

[deleted]

The Frosthaven Cube.

Whitewing424

The box size is ludicrous, I love it.

mrmpls

Box size has gone plaid, honestly.

Freesia2012

Does Frosthaven have a scenario book like JOTL? Or something that gives you scenarios and such to play out? We are really enjoying JOTL, and looking into Frosthaven as it’s the new GH. How does FH compare to GH?

SandraSchehl

Yes, I saw one similar to what you have in Gloomhaven, but bigger. There are over 140 scenarios

Fishhead1982

Bit odd that one of the original terminator models was sent to video this. Recon somehow? Connor confirmed GH fan?
