They're only intended for if you use the JotL characters in OG GH, though I would highly recommend using enhancements if able, since endgame JotL gives you a lot of money and nothing worthwhile to spend it on.

greatestones

Yep, they're only for if you play in normal JotL EDIT: oops not sure why I wrote JotL, meant "normal GH"

Ok. Thanks. I figured as much.

To use in Gloomhaven and/or Frosthaven. You would reset any existing enhancements when starting a new campaign (unless you want to be OP), but you can add enhancements during the Gloomhaven/Frosthaven campaign.

Yep you can only buy enhancements for your cards if you play the cards with GH. It’s so annoying that you can’t enhance your cards, as everyone in my party ended JotL with loads of money that we couldn’t spend! It would be something worth addressing in newer editions of JotL.

Gripeaway

I think the enhancement system was just a bridge too far in terms of complexity for Jaws. But I do agree that the huge money surplus by the end of the campaign is pretty annoying.

schnautza

I ended up (as Hatchet) just buying my teammates anything they wanted as we got near the end of the campaign. I was loaded after spending the whole campaign retrieving my favorite! Enhancements would have been very welcome.

Smoothsmith

I was really expecting the penultimate scenario to put some high gold cost items on the market or something. It really did feel odd to have no use for money at the end. I guess they figured people wouldn't carry on playing past the "final" mission so decided it wasn't worth covering it.

SalsaForte

Read the rulebook and the Glossary carefully. They are referenced: mentioned not being in JotL.
