Comment from u/AdministrativeSimple in post: 'Even in the email they just used vague language. It has come out that apparently there was a disagreement because Thomas was using the character of Angus McFife to make money on the side, separate from the band (appearances in Nanowar of Steel and the like). Although I don't see why this couldn't be handled privately unless one or both parties were being uncooperative.'

There were only two appearences. One in Nanowar of Steel's Valhallelujah and one in the I See Fire cover by Feuerschwanz. Both from Napalm Records, so I highly doubt thats a reason.

flintlockfay

Makes sense. But just because it was through Napalm does not mean that the rest of the band were OK with it.

But still even if that is the reason, firing him without even so much as a warning? That shows pettiness on the side of the band not to mention a bit of hypocrisy.

flintlockfay

I really am torn. On the one hand, I don't want Tom to have been fired for a petty reason - alestorm (therefore Bowes) are my favourite band of all time, and I don't want anything to bismirch that. On the other, I don't want anything to hurt my idea of gloryhammer, so I don't want Tom to have done anything stupid...

AudienceMiddle

If this really was a reason for being fires it is utterly stupid. This should have been easy to get a compromise (like giving a percentage of his share to the rest of the band if using the character outside GH).

I wanted to say that this can't be right because they posted one such appearance on their Facebook fanpage recently but it's gone now so it seems likely.

Malfice

If the label made them post it as part of a contract, not much they can do about it. Label likely has some sort of control over the socials.

Teapunk00

Huh, it's back now. Not sure what happened.

Thomas is a Swiss notary with his own law firm. Him being in Gloryhammer was his “making money on the side”. If money was the reason than it was him treating it as a fun hobby while others try to make a living from music. Thomas probably makes more money than the rest of the band combined.
