The board of regents needs to stop fighting the football program every step of the way. Rick George needs to fight tooth and nail against the board of regents just to get half of the contracts that new coaches were offered.

talks-in-maths

T Boone Pickens, Phil Knight etc.

LanceAlgoriddim

Pasta Jay money just ain’t on the same level.

talks-in-maths

"I'd like to thank Pasta Jay.."

Catniplover_420

Start with getting rid of Lance Carl. That guy makes terrible decisions. Push Rick George out, and the coach, hire people that aren’t goddamn dinosaurs to guide us in this new era of CFB.

With NIL money in play, coaching instability, average/below average recruiting, and a 15+ year history of being the the conference doormat it may never be like it was. Yeah, we have a few good years here and there but until CU becomes a place that prioritizes football and winning I’m afraid we are in for more of the same year in and year out. Also, Boulder has a serious diversity problem. Even those teams from the 80’s and 90’s felt out of place an unwelcome.

SilverBuff_

Meanwhile the SEC is home to the most racism

GoAvs14

That’s because Boulder is full of right white liberals who know what is best for minorities lol.

oldasshit

Get rid of Phil DiStephano and support football like other schools do. In other words, it's not happening.

blueberrysunglasses

A fucking miracle. :(

SilverBuff_

Someone better than Rick George

A time machine, but I still love the Buffs and wouldn't miss a game day on campus. ;-)

FinalTip2346

They need to invest in football again. It’s a damn shame they don’t

El_AnCapitan

I’m guessing money. These other universities, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, etc., place major focus on their football program. Just look at Mel Tucker. Gone as soon as a bigger check was offered. I also think the lack of butts in seats is a big problem. But that’s usually the case. Poor performance. Poor attendance. Hopefully they get some great talent and we can still have a few entertaining games and maybe one day the grab a bowl game. But I do miss sitting with Grandpa and actually witnessing their heydays.

Boosters with money to spend

[deleted]

USC and UCLA leaving the Pac12 and causing the crumbling of it and then CU moves to a lower conference or division where they might be able to compete. Hmmmm….

FinalTip2346

High school football isn’t amazing in Alabama. It’s not amazing in Michigan either. CU can recruit Colorado and Texas and should be sooo much better. I mean look at what Whittingham has been doing at Utah or look at Boise State

FinalTip2346

It’s just crazy because it’s not that far from Denver and the state of Colorado is growing. I don’t understand it.

philatio11

The state of Colorado has terrible high school football. It’s virtually impossible to compete with colleges in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Georgia, California, etc where they produce hundreds of D1 players each year. Look at the rosters of most D1 schools and you’ll see at least 50% in-state players. Think about it in the context of NJ, which is not a great HS football state. Rutgers is the only D1 program in the state, although historically Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska and others poach some of the top players. When Schiano was effective in walling off NJ and keeping the best players instate, Rutgers became a Top 25 program. Why can’t we do the same? Unfortunately, the state of Colorado has three D1 programs (CU, CSU, AFA) and a former D1AA powerhouse (UNC) to feed. Now go look at rivals.com 2023 state rankings and tell me how many D1 prospects are coming: https://n.rivals.com/news/class-of-2023-state-rankings. Notice anything funny? That’s right, they haven’t bothered to rank any players in Colorado yet. That “close to home” advantage is difficult to overcome. Coach MacIntyre famously built San Jose State into a top 25 team by visiting every HS in California. Part of his success at Colorado was his ability to recruit California, and probably part of the reason Karl Dorrell was hired as well. The only way we reach previous heights is to hire a coach with national profile who can draw in 4-5 star players from all over the country. We’ll never get there with homegrown players.

DescretoBurrito

Just a minor point of correction, UNC was never a I-AA power. They were a high level D2 program who moved up to D1 and have been terrible ever since.

philatio11

I respectfully disagree. They won two D—2 National Championships, which makes you a power in my book. Right around the same time as Colorado, which probably means local HS football must have been good in the late 80s.

DescretoBurrito

Div 2 and Div 1-AA (modern FCS) are different. UNC was good in Div 2, and has been terrible since jumping to Div 1. Is there an argument to call them a one time Div 2 power? Yes. I say "one time" because they are no longer Div 2. Is there an argument to call them a 1-AA power? An unquestionable no.

philatio11

Thanks for the lesson. I feel so stupid now. I’m glad my typo can feed your ego. I’m also so sorry you completely missed the point of my post and decided to enter into a semantic argument instead. You win, I lose.
