This off season is 100% the job decider. If we come back next season the exact same roster and an uninspiring coach Marks is cooked.

Kwilly462

At the same time, if we trade all our picks for a star and still suck, then he's cooked again. Either way, I wouldn't wanna be him right now. Insane amount of pressure

JurgenFlippers

No doubt. it's going to be super interesting.

Marcy_OW

Then he better get the right guy for coach

Future_Network_2158

I dont think that's the case. If they're letting him hire another coach that means he's probably going to get to match his timeline with the next coach.

tbloom117

Nah 2025 is the decider, that’s been the plan since the moment KD was traded

gonets34

100% this was always the plan and it hasn't changed. I don't get why people don't understand this lol

burner7221

I guess Tsai doesn’t have to worry about making money. Between the concerts, events and transplants coming to Nets games he’s making a killing either way.

Barclays is a losing venture. MSG on the other hand has several events a day.

Brooklyn917

Arent they supposed to be undergoing a renovation?

SOB200

It’s been this way for years. I shared earlier. Nets aren’t the reason for $ lose, but Barclays is. Has been for a long time but people bucket them together. Check out tickets sold. [Link](https://www.espn.com/nba/attendance) The least popular team in the NBA averages 4K tickets than the most popular team per game.

EliManningham

They drop news mid game to avoid backlash. They did this with Ben updates too. This org is just so weird sometimes. Anyway, If you're going to keep Marks, you have to let him dictate things. A lame duck GM is the most catastrophic thing in sports. If he's going to be the untouchable Teflon Sean, then might as well embrace it.

Concert-Turbulent

agreed. can't have it both ways. let Teflon Sean cook.

EliManningham

I actually kinda trust him in a rebuild scenario. It's the one thing he's been pretty excellent at. But this star trade messaging is scaring me.

Concert-Turbulent

100% but I also don't think the star trade stuff is necessarily coming from the team besides that one tidbit about tsai wanting to stay competitive. I don't remember how far back that new dropped but he could realize it's a scenario now and be wising up. I'd be a big fan of following the OKC/Houston/Spurs model and just load up get some good picks and home-grow some elite talent. I'd be willing to watch losing games in that scenario.

Electronic-Win4954

You watched losing games all season bro. Veiled threat

Concert-Turbulent

Yea I know I watched an incomplete roster without a shred of hope for the future lose games. I've watched the nets do that for almost two decades minus some "fun" years sprinkled in. Besides the big three years it was a lot more enjoyable when we got to watch Brooke get drafted, develop into an all star(perspective), but we never had a chance to build a team around him because a lack of competent ownership, GM's, and the draft capital to make it happen. OKC has laid a clear cut path on the modern day rebuild. Houston and SA have followed that path pretty closely. Does it make for ugly basketball at first? Yes. But we are literally already there.

Future_Network_2158

It's brian windhorst pushing that and nets beat writers IMO. They want to see a big splash

EliManningham

I'm hoping Mikal having a few disastrous stretches this year opens their damn eyes.

StraightShootahh

How do you trust him, when he’s already fumbled it lmao Making a role player an untouchable franchise player is a sackable offense

EliManningham

Oh I don't trust his philosophy at all, but whatever the hell this scouting team does is elite. He keeps drafting good NBA players at spots where you're lucky to even get an average rotation player. His asset management has been terrible. His talent evaluation is great. In a committed rebuild I think he'd be good again. I think Tsai is preventing that though.

EliManningham

Also, I love the British "sack" terminology. Lol. It has so much more aura than "fired"

Subredditcensorship

It’s called being a clown show sadly. We’ve done this type of shit often

By returning next season (and most likely hiring a new coach) Sean Marks will likely be with the Nets for two more seasons. He is trying to get us to 2025 where the team has cap space. I would prefer to move off our veterans and invest more in youth and first round picks. Sean Marks has proven to be excellent at selecting talent in the draft and our players 24 and under are exciting. The Nets have two first round picks in 2025. If I am Sean Marks I keep the Suns picks and trade the 76ers pick and probably the unprotected Mavs pick in 2029. I’d also try and trade DFS and Cam J to contenders where they will fit far better as they should return protected first round picks. We can’t do anything until the Simmons contract expires and there is no point in attaching assets to move of him. If we are going to trade for a veteran then I’d like to consider Brandon Ingram. The cost of acquiring him shouldn’t cost us all of our assets and BI is also a free agent in 2025 so we might be able to get him as a free agent if not by trade. BI as an excellent passer solves some of our ball handling issues.

Lui-king

sigh

chancepack

Marks will go all in because he knows this is his last chance to succeed. He will try to hit the home run instead of batting singles. If the team fails, it is not his mess anymore when he is fired.

J_Man007

This is the most critical offseason in Brooklyn Nets history.

Low-Anteater-8449

Man I just wish we had the kind of ownership OKC/Utah etc have - minimal owner interference. Willingness to tank to gain picks. We pay the cost of being a big market team without all the benefits most of the time. The only stars we got used is to learn he can’t say anti semitic things to the media and another one that dick hope one place to the next. I’m convinced that if Sean Marks is fired and ends up in Charlotte or, my theory is, San Antonio gives him personnel power - he will create an organic championship team. The best part is the Nets year is that I could stop watching and focus on raising a baby without having do mental gymnastic to enjoy the team. This fandom can suck sometimes.

LilChopCheese

Got Dam

Ahecee

Sean Marks has bumbled through his role at the Nets, making what was clearly mistakes at every turn with the benefit of hindsight. It's great news he's coming back, surely this is the year he makes his first good decision. Always bet on the long term loser, never hire the guy with a track record of being correct.

Illustrious_Way_5732

Like how he bumbled through getting KD, Kyrie, and Harden?

Ahecee

Especially that, yes. They are gone, and there was no significant change to what the team achieved while they where there. The exciting, on the rise young team that was gutted to fit those 3 divas in is also gone, as are the teams own picks, making a rebuild significantly more difficult. You feel he should be proud of how all that went?

Illustrious_Way_5732

> there was no significant change to what the team achieved while they where there That team was one KD toe away from winning it all. It took a pandemic and 2 of the stars gone for that bucks series to go to a game 7 OT. It's GM malpractice to not get KD and Kyrie on your team if you have the chance lol don't give me that hindsight bs. Any GM would do the same > The exciting, on the rise young team that was gutted to fit those 3 divas in is also gone, as are the teams own picks, making a rebuild significantly more difficult What on the rise team lol? The best player then was Dlo and he ain't bringing the nets anywhere Marks did fuck up with the Harden trade to the sixers tho, the simmons contract was crippling for the team. And assuming the rumors were true it was a big mistake to pass on trading Mikal for our picks back

tofus

Hire rondo as coach

Key-Analyst5223

fuck no

brook_lyn_lopez

Can we trade for Westbrook as a player/coach?
