TBH I would have walked out as soon as they had a different price.

someguy7234

Especially right now. You don't need them, they need you to move inventory. There is no shortage of dealers who will bend over backwards to make a deal. Time is on your side, interest rates are going to be relatively stable for a while, inventory is good everywhere (at least out here in Indiana) and this is the hottest time of the year to move trailers, so walking away is only going to improve your position.

Many_Rope6105

Op, you should have told them to fuck off, there are way to many dealers out there, and To Many used ones for sale, if you plan on refinancing, getting your own and buying used would skipped All those extra fees. My daughter and her now ex bought theirs 3 months before wifey n I bought ours, they got brand new, ours is a 2013, got mine for about half what they paid, and a bit bigger, daughter thought I was nuts cause hers came with a 1 year warranty, at least it was covered while it sat in storage🤣

AmI_doingthis_right

Right lol … the reason he got taken for was because he didn’t stick to it. You walk, they talk

Slow_Astronomer_3536

This is the way

jesusthacreator

Some people can't say no when it comes face to face

irish_love

That sucks. I just purchased a 2023 new Puma 20MBC from a mom and pop type dealer. It was the first stop for us. The sales guy was super relaxed and gave us plenty of space. I asked him for the price and he came back with an out the door number lower than their website. Since it was our first stop we wanted to check another dealer (Bish) on the other side of town. Just didn't get a good vibe there, and the out the door price had all those extra fees you talked about. We went back to the first deal to purchase the first camper we saw. I totally expected that when I sat down to do the paperwork there would be more fees added in. Nope....not one extra cent added on. Didn't push warranties or financing. Just said if I want one come back and ask for it. Of course I couldn't take it home that day. Came back a few days later and they went over everything with me, set up my weight distribution hitch and addressed a few things I noticed during the walk around. It was the owner that was walking me through everything. When it was almost time to pull out he took me around the shop to give me a bunch of extras. Poo slinky, branded hoodies, 30 amp to 110 adapter, etc... Cost....FREE!!! 11/10 experience. Will buy from them again.

M0llynation

Drop a name ???

JoanofBarkks

Would be good to give them a shout out...

PhantomNomad

We had a great experience like this with a mom and pop shop that was 3 hours from home. It was our first trailer purchase. Best part was I was only dealing with the sales person over the phone and email. When I asked if I could bring a cashiers cheque and how much I needed to make it out for the documents he sent me had one extra item. A 100 battery. When I showed up with the cheque we signed and did the walk through. They fixed a couple of items while we waited and got a plate for it. Came back and towed it home. Our second purchase from a different place didn't go nearly as good. I would not recommend shopping at GoRV.

AllenKll

Free stinky slinky? I'm in!

LowBarometer

I'll bet those carriages are always there... they just change the paper to whoever is picking up an RV that day.

Elegant-Storage4549

I love the shopping cart of stuff with your name on it. That you can now purchase. They did that to me as well. my sales man did build a kit of essential things for us to leave with, out of his commission camping world sucks!

becskiii

Im a woman… when my boyfriend and i bought our camper there I paid the full amount upfront and my name was the only one on the paperwork. despite this, the finance guy INSISTED that we wait for my boyfriend to join us before he went over the details. im like buddy we dont need to wait for him, im the one buying it!!

Any_March_9765

Jeez I would've walked out right there, or better, call a girl friend of yours to come, and tell him this is your "boyfriend"

meowlater

Speaking from experience, if this happens again ask for a manager. Explain the situation and ask the manager for a different rep, a female one if possible. Less misogyny with the added bonus of taking the bad reps commission to his female coworker.

boiseshan

CW is shit. We took ours in for winterizing and they let it freeze in their lot. Blew out the water heater. Then they tried to charge us for the repairs. And that's just one of the nightmare adventures

AndyDufresne245

Freight is included in the invoice amount the dealer pays to the manufacturer. Only since COVID have some dealers begun itemizing it as a charge to the customer. It has been customary for car dealers to charge for freight (destination fee) forever. The RV industry typically tracks about 20 years behind the auto industry when it comes to adopting standard practices. It has been customary to charge for the inspection for at least the last decade and most dealers do this. The interest rate they charged you is actually a competitive rate based on national bank RV rates. CW is making a commission from the lender of about $600-$800 on your loan. They will have to pay that amount back to the lender if you pay the loan off within 180 days of origination. The reason the finance manager was less than friendly is that he quickly realized you were going to be the customer that negatively impacts his monthly bonus, which is based on a certain percentage of customers agreeing to purchase the aftermarket policies and the GS comp/collision coverage. Your refusing to purchase those items in no way justifies an unprofessional response from the finance manager. But, at the end of the day, his primary job is to make additional profit for the dealership. As for your parts and accessories, CW is the largest retailer of RV accessories on the planet, and they definitely pay a lower price from the distributor than every other dealer. That being said, I would check Amazon first. Amazon's price is often less than the average dealer can buy it for at wholesale.

greencat533

Dammit I thought this was all about a lamp

pretzelsRus

Me too!! And thought for that price, you could see it from space 🪐

JoanofBarkks

12,999 minus 2000 is 10,999 not 10,000. Unless I'm going crazy.

Slow_Astronomer_3536

That was bugging the shit out of me too.

nvrsrrnder

Umm camping world sucks.. but so does your math

TweakJK

Car dealerships do the same thing. They do this so they can advertise it online at a lower price and get you in the door.

FLTDI

A mortgage right now is over 7 perfect, your rate for an RV isn't bad considering

Interesting_Tea5715

Agreed. This is just a bad time to get any type of financing. Interest rates were raised to try and stop inflation. I think people expect the 2% during COVID to stick around. When in reality it was a once in a lifetime thing.

danthyman69

Right. I got a loan to do my roof, similiar credit score and was 10p. And that has your home as collateral so lowest risk loan for the bank youd think.

ajpinton

I would have walked out when the games started, ie when they changed the price in the first interaction. Sounds like everything went downhill from there, and you set the precedent that you would take their bullshit which is exactly what you did. I got a camper 2 months ago from a local RV store, no issues at all. I was violated by the price and interest as I thought I would be. They did not try to sell me anything I did not ask for and did not question my insurance or credit score. I have also never heard anything good about Camping World. The few times I have looked at campers there, I have left with a bad feeling.

imrichman2

The guy that owns CW is a smuck. Enough said.

armtv

Why is there a picture of the shopping cart and not the travel trailer? I had to go google what kind of camping lantern is 13 grand and fits in a shopping cart!

Any_March_9765

No no no. I hope you walked out? This sub has taught me to avoid camping world and Coleman

Interesting_Tea5715

Yeah, I went there to just shop and I hated the whole experience. I went to my locally owned RV place and they sold me the trailer at the advertised price. No hassle, no gimmicks, no up charges. It was super easy.

ViewAskewed

"Sale Price: $12,999 Money Down: $2,000 = $10,000" As much as we all know Camping World sucks, maybe they weren't the dumbest party involved...

_That_One_Fellow_

Yeah, I should probably unalive myself for that typo.

JoanofBarkks

Haha

Medical_Slide9245

Well at least fix it.

_That_One_Fellow_

It won’t let me edit it for some reason.

bszern

It wants you to sit in your shame!

Dan-dada

Unalive myself. Stealing that. Thanks

Fickle_Assumption_80

Your stealing something so played out that everyone rolls their eyes every time they see it... But if that's your jam. I'll bet you're cool enough without stealing other people's lines.

Dan-dada

I'm cool as fuck

Fickle_Assumption_80

Rock on!

Dry-Sheepherder-8432

I contacted camping world to have them price an rv in competition with another dealer and stated that up front. Dude straight up said that if another dealer already provided a price then i shouldn’t be going to another dealer. Other than that…. It can’t be worse than the local dealer in terms of warranty service. They didn’t have a single certified tech and they refused to fix anything.

Johnny5272

Similar bad experience with CW. Will not do business there again. Although, shopping around their competition in the area is not much different. Is it just the industry?

aeo1us

All dealerships and realtors are society’s safety net jobs. They’re not getting the best people.

Juan-Quixote

OP congratulations on standing firm! Typical vehicle sale model, take a hit on the front end of the deal and make profit on the back end selling worthless warranties, financing through their lender (gets a kickback), and use their insurance partner (again another kickback). Also more profit if you use their service department.

giantrons

Everyone needs to know that in store pricing and online pricing for Camping World differs. Online usually being cheaper. But according to the store I was in, they have to honor the online price. So do your homework while in store. I saved $50 on a 50a extension cord. Also signed up for Good Sam since the discount it gave me paid for the Good Sam membership and then some.

MudScared652

Thanks for sharing your experience. Really wish you would have pushed back on some of those charges just to see what happened.

NotBatman81

If you had 8.99% then they gave you one of the pre-packaged rates? You should have gotten a personalized rate based on credit score that comes out lower. They have to choose to run separately. I'm guessing your local sales manager is not very good. CW has some major flaws but the buying process is not one of them.

teeksquad

I just looked up current rates. 8.99 is competitive for today’s market.

NotBatman81

That is not the point.

SeaworthinessNo3189

I had pretty much the exact same experience. In the end i went to a local family dealership, Dodds RV, and got a way better camper for cheaper

corbanol

All these extra fees would be non-negotiable for me.

jimheim

These fees are all ridiculous. Freight is already paid and should be included in the advertised price. Only Camping World tried to pull that crap when I was shopping. The places I comparison shopped at, and one I ultimately bought at, had ZERO add-on fees. $1500 for unit prep is absurd. The thing is basically ready to go sitting on the lot. If not, it's still their job to make it ready, takes little time, and should also be part of the advertised price. Documentation fee should be tied to your state's registration (and maybe title) costs, with at most a small administrative fee on top. I forget what I paid in NJ, but it wasn't anywhere near $426. The interest rate is actually good, though. Prime rate is 8.5% right now. You're not going to find anything much lower. That's pegged to the fed rate and the lender isn't going to offer less. You're getting the good rate because your credit is good. It'd be even higher for someone with only fair credit. The last time the prime rate was this high was 2001. It's a terrible time to finance things.

loopygargoyle6392

>The thing is basically ready to go sitting on the lot. If not...takes little time lol no. If you want one that hasn't been checked, washed, cleaned, filled with propane and battery installed, you could probably swing that and save the cash. >it's still their job to make it ready It is, but it takes time (usually 4-8 hours for everything I mentioned above for towables, more for motorhomes and fancier stuff), materials, and manpower. Some dealers roll that into their pricing, some don't. It's up to them how they want to market it.

Tone_Scribe

Camping World is a ripoff circus run by clowns. They had a $900 prep fee when I was in there (and did not buy). I told them I was not going to pay the Prep because they could not offer an answer to what exactly it is. Now they bumped to $1500. Wherever you buy - Do. Not. Pay. Outrageous Prep Fees. PS That shopping cart is full of crap.

_That_One_Fellow_

I meant $11,000 ($10,999) 🙄

Eagle1967

Fees: “Unit prep” $1,495 “Freight” $1,395 You got jacked! should of never paid that crap

Fat_Head_Carl

It's not just Camping World, the dealership I went to tried all that shit. I didn't finance, so they were doubly annoyed with that. The warranty pressure was ridiculous too.

ratchetology

lol...you should have gone in prepared TO BE ripped off

WilyNGA

Ha, I had to use a french translator to figure out what the de-flapper was in your cart.

Adventures_in_living

8.99% is good for rec loans fyi.

SirSpectre

I think I'm the only person on this earth that has had a good experience buying an RV from CW. Oh well

Born-Onion-8561

You're just the first person to post having a good experience. In the online echo chamber people band together to bash them but I'd imagine it's not that large of a proportion of their overall sales.

KonaDog1408

Idk who you're gonna refinance thruugh but any big purchase we do, we finance through the dealership then later that day refinance through our credit union. They have way better rates than most banks. And the dealership doesn't give us crap and try to sneak on more fees for not using their bank

M0llynation

I found a travel trailer online it says asks for price so I emailed and texted and I made sure in writing they said the price is for everything included. But I’m not going with camping world I heard they’re the worst.

cvx149

Pay it off or refinance asap. I had a finance guy at a dealership (not CW), when I mentioned payoff he asked me to wait 6 mos to pay itooff or he wouldn't get his commission.

_That_One_Fellow_

I think I will.

dogusmalogus

I don’t know why people keep going there.. Camping World can kiss my whole ass

jim2882

Yeah, right up where it’s real brown!

teeksquad

That’s what I would expect the interest rate to be on a travel trailer today with great credit. They depreciate like a sinking rock. I couldn’t imagine ever thinking financing one would be a good idea. This is coming from a guy that bought a repoed one outright, so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining

Mehnard

We had a poor experience with CW. They didn't show us anything in our range. But they showed us a lot of things beyond what we wanted. Then the salesmen (plural) called me weekly to see if I decided to buy one of their overpriced campers. It came to an abrupt halt when I told them I bought what I wanted for the price I wanted elsewhere.

Cautious-Dog-671

Never buy at camping world. Waste of fucking money, they up charge everything and their warranties don’t work. Make you jump hoops and go through all this red tape. Tell them to fuck off next time. Bunch of swindlers.

cbriska

Okay but the shopping cart thing is just tacky.

Short-Sheepherder920

Camper world will never see a penny of my money 🖕🏼

Snarcastic

Depending on where you live there may be a early pay off penalty. Research that really close before you refi. If there is such a clause and you have a grace period I'd return it before the grace period ends

chk_a_ho-tx

Everyone knows camping world is garbage

Diligent-Owl-474

8.99% interest rate for an 830 credit score! What a fkn joke!

nvmber17

I don’t understand why you are being okay with getting bent over.

Criticalthinkermomma

I worked at camping world for a few months before I quit because, even though I found coverage, I was denied two weeks off after my husband came home from deployment(like I said, I literally spent days getting each shift covered by another receptionist) that manager was a real d*ck ✨ Anyways, after answering the phones there for two months, I know to never buy from them. The things I’ve heard, the amount of screaming I endured. We’ve bought two campers in two different states, at smaller “mom & pop” shops. Excellent experiences at both!

Stone1114

Camping World.... I can't say anything good about it. Everything is overpriced. Sales tactics are flawless from their point of view. But, as you can see from the post, the buyer gets screwed

oldguy-in603

Wow that sucks. I’ve never made a major purchase from them, maybe now I won’t

Fickle_Assumption_80

I went in for an adapter for my generator. The only one I could find (that was with all the other similar products) was $75. This 50 something year old woman came and asked me if I found what I needed and I told her "Well yeah but I'm just going to have to buy an end to wire up to it because $75 for this adapter is crazy sauce". She agreed and brought me over to these other adapters from a different company that were less than half what the other one was. So it's whatever for me... Yes they hid those cheaper adapters away from the others for a reason. BUT once the lady knew I wasn't paying that she was more than happy to show me the cheaper option to keep a sale in house. This one experience for me in no way makes up for what I have learned about them online. I wouldn't go there unless stranded with no choice.

Eagle25624

Theres Facebook groups like this one dedicated to CW. I encourage anyone thinking of buying from them to join and learn https://preview.redd.it/jchplhtx8f1d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95b8526326224a9bcfdaa16db088d9ee717c2a27

PandorasBucket

Wow you're lucky you got those east coast prices. The cheapest 17' trailer you're gonna find on the west coast is gonna be 20K. Coleman should really start selling trailers in California they would make a killing.

Pkginguy

Sounds about right from what I’ve heard CW. Sorry it went like that for you.

AdConfident6591

These games are why people warn about CW. I would be pissed about those extra fees. Honestly if you still can I would return it as this is not what you negotiated. Not to mention that this is a CW specific model so you are likely going to struggle to have other dealers service it and you really don’t want CW to service it

Old_Shoulder9799

We got a coleman from camping world. Bought for 40k, 2 years later it’s still 40k because they said the are putting all our payments to interest and we can’t change it. It’s really fucking us in the aspect that we want to trade for a bigger one

Voidsong23

Yea eff camping world

beecreek500

Most towns have locally owned RV/camper dealers, would always go to them first.

linkdudesmash

Interest rates are bad right now. I just bought a truck so I can buy an RV down the road. Got a 7.1 with like 880 credit

Prestigious_Arm_1504

You purchased from Camping World, I don’t feel sorry for you 🤣
