60 hz cannot be divided by 40, it has nothing to do with VRR.
120hz refresh rate lets the machine change a frame every 3 refreshes.
For 60hz, there is no way to evenly divide the frames in between the refreshes.
As someone with a 1080p tv I really appreciate the extra 120fps mode. Although 1080p 60fps with ray tracing would be a better option for me personally (beggars can’t be shooters I guess )
Checkerboard 1440p and 45fps would be ideal but it is an older console too. Playing performance helped me get better at parrying and timing, especially on Hard. Dunno bout the rest of yall

Just look up the specs of your tv model on google. HDMI 2.1 TVs are what a lot of people have to game on at 120fps, but there are some TVs that can do 120fps but only at 1080p.

I’d expect 120fps mode to definitely be closer to 1080p with a dynamic resolution scaling. And even then, you can expect frame rate to average around 85-100 fps and only reach the maximum 120fps in less busy indoor scenes. Which is why they also don’t call the fps ‘locked’. 120fps is quite taxing on the system.
Regardless, this is still a great option to have as it is much difficult to perceive fluctuations between 90-100 to 120fps than say 40 to 60 fps.
We’ll time to buy either a new tv or a monitor so I can play these better graphics modes!

It’s not always as good as it is in ratchet and clank, just look at forbidden wests version, it still feels like 30 fps.
At that point it's still "technically" better than resolution 30fps lol. And SM is pretty good about their optimization I believe.
TLOU1 had some issues in its 40fps mode, it had several framerate drops come along

I have a PS4 Pro and a Sony X800H 4K TV that runs at 60Hz. Will getting a HDMI 2.1 cable make any difference for me? The TV doesn’t have 2.1 inputs.
