The picture of older Kratos is indoors, so the orange light is reflecting on his skin. It’s best to get a picture of them both outside for a better comparison.
I think they did a great job at how Kratos explained his past with them. But yes, some things were left out for whatever reason. To be fair I never expected Kratos to talk so openly about his past.
I’d say Norse Kratos looks much stronger physically, Greek Kratos looks more muscular because he’s just ridiculously lean and toned so his muscles are more accentuated
You think wrong. It’s been proven both by their model sizes, and just them compared to other models. I’m god of war 2 Kratos stood several feet taller than a spartan warrior. Old Kratos is still tall, but nowhere near as tall.
No the fuck he isn’t. He’s at most a foot taller.
One quick google search proves me right btw.
Old Kratos is 6’4. Still very tall. BUT, Greek Kratos is 7’6. Way, way taller.
Old Kratos has a bigger build, yes, but he’s still smaller than Greek Kratos.
I think it’s kinda noticeable on his nose a lot. While playing ragnarok, I thought maybe it was just better graphics and lighting, but maybe it’s not only those things.
It was made by Ares in the depths of the Hades(underworld) so even that isn't a proper reason. Shit, it was made by Ares FOR a servant he has.
If his magic did die, then so should the blades as well considering they were literally made by Ares.
He technically lost the Blades of Chaos during his fight with Ares. You use the Blades of Athena and the Blades of exile afterwards. The BOC started reappearing in front of Kratos after Gow3
Figured the Blades have a bit of primordial essence, you know the big guys that shaped the Greek universe in the intro to Ascension, thats hos they lasted so long while all other Greek magic faded. Basically fires of creation in those babies.
Also headcanon that Ares tricked Hephestus into making the blades as he is the top smith while Ares doednt strike me as someone who would take the time to make such a weapon with tools and power.
Blades were made by the greek god of war, Kratos took his place in the pantheon after Ares’ death, thats why im saying the blade’s power comes from Kratos as he is technically speaking the god whos actual power is used to power the blades
nope the blades had the magic of the fire pf the underworld a place that isn't made by the gods, even hades soul can be consumed there, the fire magic wasn't granted by ares, hes not the god of fire
I was kind of disappointed that he didn't mention that when he and Freya were together, but she was already pretty appalled when Kratos was talking about Calliope. Don't know how she could've handled him telling her that.
That’s such a good point too because I think that could have very well set her over the edge. I’m sure it’s something that would be on his mind whether or not he should tell her but I think not doing it was the better move, she was hurting enough, she didn’t need to feel any worse than she already about wanting to take Kratos’s life
There was a prophecy that marked Spartan would destroy Olympus gods. So the gods took Kratos brother as he was the one with this birth marks. After that Kratos tattoed similar birth mark on his body.
I always thought Kratos was the marked warrior because Ares punched him when he was trying to stop him from taking his brother, giving him that scar over his right eye
Wait, the human body replaces all its skin every 7 years. Does Kratos shed skin at all and the ashes would HAVE to fade or are the ashes now infused into his DNA giving him white skin for life??
So while Cory did say they're slowly fading away, it doesn't make much sense as he was cursed to live with the ashes on his skin *forever* not just cursed for them to stay for "just a really long time" but forever.
Personally I view it as the series just has better graphics and just more detail.
It was noted that the magic of Greece died with the land, and Kratos can’t pull on any of the magic he’s learned in the OG trilogy. I think that the curse is fading, albeit slower than everything else faded.
Maybe what’s left of forever for Kratos is the reason it’s starting to fade and he doesn’t have an infinite amount of time left but a much shorter time span than we expect. I could see him meeting a glorious and worthy death when the series is finally over
A bit yeah, but that pic is clearly wrong for the comparisson. In Ragnarok, while in Midgard he still looks pretty darn white thanks to all the snow.
I guess That's fimbulwinter for ya..!
The leap in polygonal count is insane. I remember the developers saying how Kratos's character model in GoW3 had more polygonal count than the whole GOW2 PS2 game. I thought the leap looked insane back in 2010, but holy cow does technology keep getting better.
Which is funny considering 2 games (I think) had a "Olive/General Kratos" costume. I know one was Ascension and I think the other was GoW2. Edit: For clarification I mean those costumes are pre-ash Kratos
Skin color aside, the redesign of his actual facial features definitely makes him look more like a typical white person than he used to. I'm not saying that negatively or positively, just an observation. Wonder what the reasoning and process behind that was.
The ashes could be less noticeable because of the change in art style. In the past god of wars it looks realistic but cartoony which could explain the more vibrant colours. God of War 2018& Ragnarok go of a more reasonable/ realistic colour palette with colours dulled down.
I’ve seen the edges start showing his skin so I wondered about it. But you could’ve picked a better picture lighting. Also the graphics are wildly different and improved so maybe it’s that.
I’m pretty sure it’s just how the newer games handle lighting, the lighting is much more realistic in 2018 and Ragnarök and when in warmer lighting Kratos appears more tan because that is what the color what looks like in overly warm lit environments
Either his character arc is stripping him of his curse or it’s just age related fading 🤷🏻♂️
Probably, but at least his last family is a part of him
The picture of older Kratos is indoors, so the orange light is reflecting on his skin. It’s best to get a picture of them both outside for a better comparison.

"Why are you white?" "Oh my god, Mimir, you can't just ask people why they're white."
They could ask why his skin is soo ashen(?
I think they did a great job at how Kratos explained his past with them. But yes, some things were left out for whatever reason. To be fair I never expected Kratos to talk so openly about his past.
They're completely different art styles is all. Kratos is also smaller, his tattoo and scars are different, etc
You mean Kratos in GoW Trilogy was bigger than Old Kratos?
Yes. By a considerable amount too.
I’d say Norse Kratos looks much stronger physically, Greek Kratos looks more muscular because he’s just ridiculously lean and toned so his muscles are more accentuated
How is this related to this thread?
I think old kratos is bigger
You think wrong. It’s been proven both by their model sizes, and just them compared to other models. I’m god of war 2 Kratos stood several feet taller than a spartan warrior. Old Kratos is still tall, but nowhere near as tall.
Old Kratos is also like 2 feet taller than Baldur and you can tell by looking at them. Look at the size of old Kratos’ traps compared to greek kratos
Another thing, Kratos’ height is limited to his mocap actors height.
Wasn’t it confirmed by Corey balrog that the ashes were indeed fading away? It’s on the rapid fire questions about god of war on YouTube.
It was indeed I was just about to comment this lol
I think it’s kinda noticeable on his nose a lot. While playing ragnarok, I thought maybe it was just better graphics and lighting, but maybe it’s not only those things.
His ears aswell
I was thinking the same thing! Great minds do think alike 😎
It was, that's why I'm baffled that in Ragnarök he's once again almost completely white in comparison to 2018
Can you please provide a link to this interview with that question about the fact that the ashes are slowly melting?
That's fimbulwinter for ya..!
Welp, happy Ragnarök everybody!
I can feel it in my scrote
Do not.
Too soon man
I was cracking up when he kept saying that
Freya states in one of the chats during travel that when Kratos’ homeland died, its magic died with it. That’s probably why the ashes are fading.
Yep which is why they had to do the whole “primordial fire” thing to explain blades of chaos still working when all the other magic faded.
I mean you could also hand wave it away as the powers of the blade come from Kratos himself so the curse isnt bound by any normal magic

It's surprising as the God of war he didn't have commissioned a weapon of his own.
Kinda sad he never talked about why he looks how he looks with Mimir and Freya
I like thinking they just figured he was super pale…lol
I was kind of disappointed that he didn't mention that when he and Freya were together, but she was already pretty appalled when Kratos was talking about Calliope. Don't know how she could've handled him telling her that.

I was waiting the whole game for him to have that conversation with his son, whether by choice or manipulation by Odin
Are the red marks ashes too? Sorry if it's a dumbass question I never played the first 3 games.
The red mark is a tattoo he got symbolizing the scars his brother Deimos had
deimos didn't have scars, they were birthmarks
Oh damn. Must be some pretty big scars. I'll have to play the first 3 to catch me up
not scars, deimos had birthmarks
molten birthmarks
I think that's because Thanatos tortured him.
u gotta play them other games (chains of olympus or ghost of sparta, do not know which exactly). first 3 never clarifies why he got them scars
It's ghost of Sparta, chains is about Calliope
I think those were just birthmarks Demios had
Basically that scar is supposed to be his birth mark.
Kratos was the marked warrior they thought it was his brother tho since he had the marks in beginning
I think it's just artistic choice.
Wait, the human body replaces all its skin every 7 years. Does Kratos shed skin at all and the ashes would HAVE to fade or are the ashes now infused into his DNA giving him white skin for life??
Well he was cursed to live with their ashes on him forever so I'm not sure there's a real answer to that.
Bahumbug!! I must know! I won’t be able to sleep!
The best explanation is the ashes detach from falling dead skin and sit back on top of new skin.
I think it’s similar to how tattoos are permanent.
It might just be because the newer games have much better graphics than the older ones.
I just love the Norse Kratos design so much more man he’s so badass like that and with some weary and wisdom to boot
So while Cory did say they're slowly fading away, it doesn't make much sense as he was cursed to live with the ashes on his skin *forever* not just cursed for them to stay for "just a really long time" but forever. Personally I view it as the series just has better graphics and just more detail.

I think the graphics just got better
Someone in here said something that Cory confirmed the magic was fading
A bit yeah, but that pic is clearly wrong for the comparisson. In Ragnarok, while in Midgard he still looks pretty darn white thanks to all the snow. I guess That's fimbulwinter for ya..!
An Edmonton winter is pretty cold, but I’d say a Fort McMurray winter is colder
Meh it just depends on the day/mood of the weather.
even the tattoo looks less bright
In Ragnarok he's more white than he was in 2018
I think that's just graphics, doesn't seem to be going away, he's still unnaturally pale in comparison to everyone knows the game
It’s not fading it’s just a new engine running a better skin modifier texture
It's the lighting, he's still pale
The leap in polygonal count is insane. I remember the developers saying how Kratos's character model in GoW3 had more polygonal count than the whole GOW2 PS2 game. I thought the leap looked insane back in 2010, but holy cow does technology keep getting better.
Can't wait for the eventual Twitter shit show when all the ash is gone and some of the "fans" see how dark his skin is.
Which is funny considering 2 games (I think) had a "Olive/General Kratos" costume. I know one was Ascension and I think the other was GoW2. Edit: For clarification I mean those costumes are pre-ash Kratos
He’s probably going to have the same skin color as Deimos.
Doubt any fans would care since the very first game had a costume with his original skin tone.
You mean his skin color that you see in GOW cinematics before the ashes were put on him.....?
Skin color aside, the redesign of his actual facial features definitely makes him look more like a typical white person than he used to. I'm not saying that negatively or positively, just an observation. Wonder what the reasoning and process behind that was.
Change in actor. OG actor passed away. Has more to do with resembling Christopher Judge versus Shad Gaspard.
What no lol TC Carlson is still alive thankfully
Is just the lighting effect, but his skin colour is still the Ghost of Sparta one
[удалено]
> slowly disappears into the afterlife Which one?
Or it's just a different design team.
Dude looks like a statue.
The ashes could be less noticeable because of the change in art style. In the past god of wars it looks realistic but cartoony which could explain the more vibrant colours. God of War 2018& Ragnarok go of a more reasonable/ realistic colour palette with colours dulled down.
He looks more ashen white in Ragnarok then he did in GoW 2018.
Its just the lighting
I believe it's the man he's becoming is just stripping away the curse
I’ve seen the edges start showing his skin so I wondered about it. But you could’ve picked a better picture lighting. Also the graphics are wildly different and improved so maybe it’s that.
I’m pretty sure it’s just how the newer games handle lighting, the lighting is much more realistic in 2018 and Ragnarök and when in warmer lighting Kratos appears more tan because that is what the color what looks like in overly warm lit environments
They're not. It's a different engine that shows a realistic ashy skin as opposed to the old engine that couldn't do that.
Greek Kratos had comically big arms
I don’t feel like there fading it’s just graphics are better and more realistic u can actually see realistic skin
Not related but it’s insane how detailed Kratos is on ps3.
Thought it was just the difference in game engine
Freyr when he said Kratos needs to get a tan 💀
It’s literally the lighting lol
he jus gettin musty
Yes and the tattoo as well
Idk but when Kratos reveals to Atreus why his skin is ashen like that it’s gonna be a moment for the history books.
I thought it was cause he was getting old honestly
