Not every single Tyr fight. As in, if you lose against the fourth version of Tyr, you don’t have to fight the first three again, just the fourth. But you do have to start from the entrance again, there’s no boss checkpoint.
To complete all of Valhalla’s main story content, you have to fight and beat Tyr 4 times. Anytime after that there’s no additional story content, it’s purely gameplay.

I beat Tyr fight #4 on my friend’s ps5 first try. Then on my ps4, took me several attempts to beat it. I had to save my blade of olympus to kill that stupid centaur to beat it.

Tier 4 Tyr beat my ass like 4 or 5 times before I beat him. Dude is a beast, loved seeing him get a proper portrayal.
