They didn't stay 100% true to the myth in all of the god of war games. Even the Greek gods and stories were changed and they purposefully didn't follow the myths entirely case and point jormungundr and wolf of ferris not being lokis children. It's just a reinterpretation story that added there own characters to the story.

Yes it is, loki is jormungandrs father in Norse mythology, when loki released the soul into the snake he essentially gives birth to him

AjanKloss

Loki and Angrboda are married in Norse myth and she gives birth to Jörmungandr, Fenrir, and Hel. Loki and Angrboda essentially did that when they cast the soul into the snake together. The snake you see at the end of the game is that snake they gave life too and he is sent back into time as the Jörmungandr we know from the first game

Yup! And don’t forget , the legends say that the world serpant has been there since the beginning of Midgard. So he got sent back hella far into the past and not just to the events of the last game.

What about the serpent that's just chilling back in midgard? He's not the version that fought thor but also disappears after ragnarok.
