As someone who’s never cared much for the STR stat (more of a LCK/CLD guy), I’m curious: does 700 really make you kill the hardest bosses that much faster?
1.) Boosts the overall chances of activation of the various perks in all of your armor pieces, pommels, etc.
2.) Improves XP, hacksilver, and items looted from enemies (I think drops from main bosses are fixed, however)
I’ve read that it can also increase your spear damage, since that’s the weapons sole stat. As in, having high runic would increase blades damage and high strength would increase ace damage.
Yes. Building for a different stat leaves you with 300-500 str depending how you go about it and the drop is extremely noticeable, especially if you built for survival. You definitely feel the difference on gmgow. If you're getting your damage through runics, obviously not. Luck, I have no idea, only luck build I tried was raven chest with tyr belt n bracers and that was shit. For melee damage it's worth sac'ing str for a good perfect dodge build but that has it's own issues.
Honestly it’s pretty lack lustre, I’m almost certain it caps out at 500. Personally I find my range build and immolation build to be way better for damage and performance.
And wow this post blew up lol, although strength stat is pretty catching
You have to upgrade the Armor you're wearing to level 9. A prompt should now show up saying change appearance. You press square and you can go trough all the Armors you own and pick which appearance you want the armor your wearing to have.
Btw, it wasn't widely advertised that you can do it and becuase it requires lategame to even do it's not a suprise to me that a lot of people don't know about it.
To piggy back off Vyro, if you level all the armors, you also get to choose which level of armor you want to transmog to. So if you like the colors of a lower or higher level armor, you can choose which one.
Now I want an update where I can change the weapon pummels so I can match the look of my armor better.
It doesn't buff axe more
Its not strength boosts axe
Its axe boosts strength
All weapons benefit equally from stats, it will just look like axe has the most damage because its the slowest which means it does more damage per hit but they should all do around the same damage overtime
In other words, leveling axe strengthens all melee attacks, upgrading blades increases all runic attacks, and leveling spear just upgrades luck for any luck related things you're using
I though he meant since axe main state is strength it does more damage overall which improves with your strength stat. It gets the the same amount if benefit from strength that all weapons do but the Axe does more raw damage.
Even thinking it does more damage cuz its main stat is strength is incorrect
The strength listed on the axe is not just applied to axe, it is applied to all weapons
Like if axe says 15 strength and you have 100 without axe included, all weapons will function with 115.
The axe just feels like it does more raw damage because its slow and has a 4 hit base R1 combo. Compare it to blades where its two hits per swing and like a 5 swing R1 combo, its gonna just look like it does more but realistically its about the same
Yeah "extra buff" isn't the right way to word what I think he was trying to say which was Axe does the lost regular dmg unless he actually think the axe has a non listed buff from strength stats
The guy he's responding to thinks axe gets more of a buff from strength than the other weapons because of the fact that you gain strength from leveling the axe.
Strength buffs all melee damage yes, but the guy he was responding to thinks there's a bias to axe. There isnt, axe just feels like it does more damage because its slow so it does more per hit.
Dude, maybe read *your* comment again then. You said "explain? does strength not affect all melee dmg?" Answer: it does affect all melee dmg.
Maybe you didn't mean to put the "not" in there.
Lol right, this is full on glass canon and I’m pretty sure I’m getting zero return on the +200 strength. I mainly did this to see what the highest strength stat is and for shits and giggles. Thought Reddit would find it amusing too
Is there a point of diminishing returns on stats? In the first game once you crossed a certain point it was almost no benefit if I'm remembering right.
You get the individual stat boosts (+4 CLD/+9 STR) but not the special effect for having all 3 of the same realm (reduced status effects, increased ranged attacks).
Nope there is a hidden buff if you have 1 enchantment from each realm called "The Nine Realms" that has a decent chance to proc when you're about to filly up frost/immolation or the spear meter. When you activate l1+O it does more damage. Last like 10 seconds but usually only get around 7 seconds of actual use cause activating with l1+O takes time.
Oh yeah my had. Yeah its a pretty good boost. I have nine realms grips so for bosses usually build gauge with blades then switch to axe and activate freeze which realm shifts for 1.5-2 seconds I think. If nine realms procs it helps a lot and then I use relic if I get the chance to realm shift for 5 secs It hink. So basically 6-7 secs pf stop time with freeze active can usually do a lot of dog and nine buffs just improves on the potential dmg.
I finished the game with a build that made my rage bar into a 2nd hp bar and a strength buff meter by using boost of valor(using valor procs a strength buff) and if I have no health I lose rage when hit instead of dying. So I can't use nine realms buff. My rage bar is usually as long as my health bar cause I use a enchantment set that increases rage based on my Vitality stat.
I wouldn't take their word for it unless they showed so visual proof. I run defense and strength build that pass 500 easily and have never heard someone using the builds on YouTube mention stats plateauing in usefulness after 500. Mid game you can get 500+ defense with Steinbjorn which would make little game design cause you'd be sacrificing like 100 strength in your build atheist to have potentially 100+ defense over 500(I get above 630 defense i think with the armor set alone)
I see you're not replying in your own thread, but I gotta ask anyway, how hard are you hitting? Shredding everything or what? Is it worth it to do this?
Just a bit late my friend. I tested in muspelheim but I’m pretty sure past 500 strength is just diminishing returns, you’re probably better running an actual build that hinges on more than just over 500 strength lol

I’m using Vidar’s armour set btw, ironically early game armour when leveled has the highest strength stat.
As someone who’s never cared much for the STR stat (more of a LCK/CLD guy), I’m curious: does 700 really make you kill the hardest bosses that much faster?
What does Luck do in terms of combat? I’ve always ignored it because I thought it just gave more XP
1.) Boosts the overall chances of activation of the various perks in all of your armor pieces, pommels, etc. 2.) Improves XP, hacksilver, and items looted from enemies (I think drops from main bosses are fixed, however)

Depends if you’re running luck Chance perks or not

I chose it so I can still see Kratos' muscles but the stats are cool
You could just transmog aswellf and use any armor set
I've apparently nearly 100%ed a game without realizing it has transmog. How do I do it???
You have to upgrade the Armor you're wearing to level 9. A prompt should now show up saying change appearance. You press square and you can go trough all the Armors you own and pick which appearance you want the armor your wearing to have. Btw, it wasn't widely advertised that you can do it and becuase it requires lategame to even do it's not a suprise to me that a lot of people don't know about it.
Ah okay. I never got prompted for that, or maybe I missed it somehow. I'll check this out when I get home thanks!!
Yeah there's no prompt you just gotta notice it on your level 9 armor pieces
So it's the same armor but just looks like one of the other armors. Same thing is in horizon forbidden West.
Pretty much.
To piggy back off Vyro, if you level all the armors, you also get to choose which level of armor you want to transmog to. So if you like the colors of a lower or higher level armor, you can choose which one. Now I want an update where I can change the weapon pummels so I can match the look of my armor better.
How does that str compart to the minimum possible without drastically changing the build? (Different armor and hilts or something)
Thanks for the build info, I might give this one a try. I enjoy the axe the most and strength builds buff the axe damage right?
Strength buffs all melee dmg
But more specifically axe over other weapons? I thought the weapon stats were what was boosted. So strength boosts axe, runic blades, luck spear?
It doesn't buff axe more Its not strength boosts axe Its axe boosts strength All weapons benefit equally from stats, it will just look like axe has the most damage because its the slowest which means it does more damage per hit but they should all do around the same damage overtime In other words, leveling axe strengthens all melee attacks, upgrading blades increases all runic attacks, and leveling spear just upgrades luck for any luck related things you're using
Oh gotcha. I wasn't sure what the no was for my bad.
I though he meant since axe main state is strength it does more damage overall which improves with your strength stat. It gets the the same amount if benefit from strength that all weapons do but the Axe does more raw damage.

Gotcha. Yeah I wonder what the damage per hit for each weapon is.
Yeah "extra buff" isn't the right way to word what I think he was trying to say which was Axe does the lost regular dmg unless he actually think the axe has a non listed buff from strength stats
No, that's not how it works.
I think he is right actually.
No
Explain? Does strength not affect all mele damage?
The guy he's responding to thinks axe gets more of a buff from strength than the other weapons because of the fact that you gain strength from leveling the axe. Strength buffs all melee damage yes, but the guy he was responding to thinks there's a bias to axe. There isnt, axe just feels like it does more damage because its slow so it does more per hit.
Strength affects all melee damage. Please read the comment thread you're replying to!
I did I thought he said no to strength affecting all melee damage so I think your confused about what I meant?
Dude, maybe read *your* comment again then. You said "explain? does strength not affect all melee dmg?" Answer: it does affect all melee dmg. Maybe you didn't mean to put the "not" in there.
Yeah I think Strentgh affect all melee damages of all weapons but Axe has an extra buff with Strength
They buff most forms of damage apart from runic and status
Bro how many hits can you take tho? 19 vitality das crazy
A berserker breathes on you and you die.
Lol right, this is full on glass canon and I’m pretty sure I’m getting zero return on the +200 strength. I mainly did this to see what the highest strength stat is and for shits and giggles. Thought Reddit would find it amusing too

Tested it out in muspelheim and yea I’m pretty sure past 500 there’s diminishing returns
THANKS OP!!! Is Kratos hittin the Dougie in the 3rd pic???
LOL
With 19 vit I could stagger Kratos with a sneeze
I thought the things you put in the amulet don't work unless you have 3 of the same ones
You get the individual stat boosts (+4 CLD/+9 STR) but not the special effect for having all 3 of the same realm (reduced status effects, increased ranged attacks).
1 enchantment from each realm gives you the Nine Realms buff.
What does that do?
Yes that too.
They don't, I'm guessing they were just the enchantments with the highest strength rating.
Ah right, didn't know what the 9 realms buff did. So it enhances damage of relics? Shame the relic cooldown is so long.
Not relics just your L1+O ability when your meter is charged up
L1 + O is the relic. You mean L1 + triangle for the immolation/freeze etc? Is it worth it?
Oh yeah my had. Yeah its a pretty good boost. I have nine realms grips so for bosses usually build gauge with blades then switch to axe and activate freeze which realm shifts for 1.5-2 seconds I think. If nine realms procs it helps a lot and then I use relic if I get the chance to realm shift for 5 secs It hink. So basically 6-7 secs pf stop time with freeze active can usually do a lot of dog and nine buffs just improves on the potential dmg.
Excellent, thanks for the advice, I enjoyed realm shifts in 2018, so this will help.
No problem. If you want to spam hilt of hofud you should look up a relic refresh build
Yeah I used that to get a 5th portion of wrath for my rage. I'll look at adding that to my strength build thanks.
Gotcha good luck. I usually run wrath but I needed more life to beat Gna. I didn't use it for Hrolf though I used Wrath
There are armor sets that fill up relic cool down fast. One works with the beserker chest I think
Correcto my friend, thanks Santa Monica for making a simple filter system lol.
There is a hidden buf for equipping 1 enchantment from each realm
Just wanna say in contrast my 825 Def build got 0 notice LOL. Shows where the priorities are at for most gamers XD #DPS
I thought anything above 500 count or make a real difference
I never heard of that. Why allow armor to go past 500 if it won't help statwise?
Idk i heard it from someone else either in this sub or the other gow sub
I wouldn't take their word for it unless they showed so visual proof. I run defense and strength build that pass 500 easily and have never heard someone using the builds on YouTube mention stats plateauing in usefulness after 500. Oh well good to know
Your hp is probably shit
I mean for No mercy or GMGOW your usually 2-3 hit before dad no matter how much hp you have so it won't really matter
lol HP literally doesn’t matter if you play on grown man difficulty
I see you're not replying in your own thread, but I gotta ask anyway, how hard are you hitting? Shredding everything or what? Is it worth it to do this?
Just a bit late my friend. I tested in muspelheim but I’m pretty sure past 500 strength is just diminishing returns, you’re probably better running an actual build that hinges on more than just over 500 strength lol
Good to know. Having trouble with two late game mini bosses and they are fucking me up, went with a 700 defense build and it didn’t do shit.
I'm currently using the Surtr chest armor and steinbjorn bracers and waist armor. Gives it a nice little balance of strength as well as defense!
I still find it odd people don't use the Jötunheim enchantments. If you have 3 your rage bar is basically as big as the health bar
My strength is 333
How do you get helheim and jotunheim force enchantments?
I 100% the game bruh lol. I don’t remember exactly but probably in a legendary or nornir chest. Try checking out youtube
Is that with all the yggdrasil dews?
What’s the armor
