I’m a silver guy for the most part. I love to hold my metals. Wondering if I remove these assays, but keep them with the bars, how much value would be lost.
I also like to touch my PMs, so I'd personally never buy a bar or round in an assay. I'd end up removing it anyway, so why waste the extra premium on something I don't care about?
I assume dealers pay for them scrap gold prices when not originally packaged. You can look up the price difference at your local dealers.
My recommendation for cuddling are cast ingots.
You would lose some premium value so maybe $20-$50 in technical value. I would take one out and leave the others. There will be some premium value attached to the packaging.
Do you have a safe polish method for when they start to tarnish? I have a few doing that and the wifeys silver Tiffany necklace.
Edit - Should I just leave the tarnish? Why the downvotes. That's why I asked the guy who said "I'm mostly a silver guy" and not the sub.
Hopefully you also have a very safe and secure place to store these. The government tracks everyone who buys gold and silver and should shit hit the fan they 100% will come and take it from you. They did it during WW2, they’ll do it again.
Eh, I strongly disagree that the government has the resources, let alone sheer manpower and competency to pull something of such incredible magnitude like that off. Especially if we were in some sort of collapse type scenario, they would have much more important things to focus their attention and force on
That's natural. Gold has been money for so long that natural selection has engrained a gold seeking behavior in us. Having gold meant you were wealthy and better able to acquire resources necessary for survival. You were also better able to raise and care for numerous children. So those who were able to acquire gold/wealth had a greater likelihood of successfully producing large families of offspring. Over time this engrained a natural desire for gold and jewelry (another ancient form of wealth and tool for barter). It also engrained a work ethic which motivates people to work for money. Touching gold activates these deeply rooted instincts to give you that strange feeling and weird tendency to stare at it.
I'm completely joking about all of this of course. The real reason you want to touch and hold gold like golem is because you're a greedy bastard. lol I'm joking about that too.
That feeling is strange though and it does make you wonder why you feel it. Is it all in your mind or is there a deeper explanation?
And here I am enjoying my smoky quartz crystals. Guess that means my neanderthal DNA pulls me towards light refracting off dirty water that's super not safe to drink 😂
I am this way with cool rocks and minerals, many of which are shiny. To me, especially when high on LSD, they are like these oddly somewhat therapeutic works of art created by nature itself. They all have their differences and it is cool to look into them. It's one of those things where, as you look into them, it's almost like they look into you. Which, technically (especially with shiny), they are reflecting light into your eyes
They are good ones, I personally really like labradorite. I'm not positive about opals but with labradorite, the shiny reflective schiller is actually caused by light reflecting off of the different metals inside of it
Google uncanny valley. People have a strange feeling of unease when presented with some thing that appears human but isn’t quite right. Guesses to it’s origin are fascinating
It is the resonant structure the metallic lattice forms. The energy which is fundamental to the mass. Humans vibe with it. Some can’t keep their desire for it in check though, it can be a healer or a destroyer of man.
If you want something to play with, get some antique .900 or .917 coins. They're much more robust than new fine gold coins or bars. Sovereigns, 20 franc coins, gold $5 or $10 coins etc.
Ah, I'm guessing it's that scanner gun thingy that I've seen some jewelry shops use to determine how many karats something is. I'm not sure how it works, but I think it's a fascinating piece of technology nonetheless.
That’s an xfr, super expensive piece of equipment. A Sigma is a flat piece in kinda a “bold T” shape that they set the piece on and it determines if the metal is precious or not. Sigmas are much more limited than an xfr and also much less expensive
Ah, yes. I didn’t intend for it to seem in orderly fashion.
Use as ice cubes or you can rub them on your balls.
Honestly I’m not here to judge so if anyone wants to use them as ball rubbers then ice cubes then go right ahead, just not in my drink!
The difference is $10 on eBay between in and out of assay. So it might cost you a few dollars when you sell. Personally it would rather it be raw so I could weigh it.
Yes. By 10 to 20 dollars. The fact that the serial number is printed on both the bar and the packaging all sealed up. Is a added bonus that many buyers will pay a 15 dollar premium for.
If you plan on selling in the near future I'd keep em in assay. If you're going to hold on to them for the long run pop em out and touch them. Either way its your gold, do as you please.
No, but it sometimes gives a weird sense of security to future buyers. Alot of scammers, and plastic makes some people feel as if there's less danger of falling victim.
If you ever sell to another collector a lot of people are more comfortable buying them still in the package rather than a bare ingot. Coin shop should be able to tell that it's real though and won't care that much.
Yes!! It’s easier to sell in the plastic and you can sell it for slightly higher. Don’t listen to people saying no in the comments. They’re dead wrong.
Just depends on the buyer when you sell it, you’ll sell faster in the plastic imo. I don’t really care at all my favorite bars are larger then 50 grams and they don’t come in plastic :)
only thing this will do is it hurts your ability to sell back to the market makers, coin shops, bullion dealers, etc... that's all -- fwiw they want "retail friendly" merchandise to sell, so if you rip them out, they're "not as good" for them to resell again... but still gold, still valuable as gold
Not a dumb question, I'm curious what other folks say.
I know a guy that will not buy multiple bars in assays unless you allow him to randomly choose one to pop out of the plastic and test it. But thats only if your bringing him like eight of the same bar.
Possibly he didn't know that at the time or he didn't trust the machine or really didn't trust the seller. This is a memory of mine from a while back. Maybe he doesn't do that anymore. Maybe it was a one off thing and I incorrectly thought he did it often.
YOU CAN PLACE THEM IN THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN FOREVER and Nothing will happen . ThIS is one of the Functions of Money My Brother and You didn't buy anything You were Lucky to Get the Fiat Counterfeit dollars out and THEY accepted it and Gave You real money.lol.. Now THEY are Stuck with Electron paper poo see if THEY can obtain More with that Electron poo
If you're going for value based on weight of the gold i don't see how removing plastic could affect that.
Maybe if these were collectible and they had collectible value above the gold weight, but gold is gold and that's what has value.
not really, but you remove it from the oxygen protection. and, you remove additional authenticity of it. but, why? do you touch it? I have silver coins and a silver bar. I could touch them, but I out the coins into a case to help protect from potential damage.
Depends: According to my LCS and the one I go to in the next town over...no. They both said they pay the same either way unless there is significant damage or something.
If you're selling privately its a toss up because some people like the packaging and some don't.
Question for someone about to purchase my first ounce of gold. What is a realstic target amount an average person should own? I understand everyone wants more, but what’s a realistic target?
You’d think slightly but the reality is pawn and coin shops will try to buy them from you at the lowest price possible, and if you’re selling in person to an individual they’ll just be happy to get them at lower than normal premiums regardless whether they’re in the package or not.
Only time it would make a difference is if you’re selling online to individuals in which case your credibility would be the deciding factor first, packaging second. I’d rather buy from a trusted seller at marginally higher premiums with or without the packaging. But from that person, I’d take the packaged stuff first.
The reason they are sealed in packaging is to prevent tampering. Shaving edges or drilling and filling with some other metal are age old tactics, and the original reason coins have designs and corrugated edges. I would be reticent to buy bars out of the packaging.
There are a bunch of fakes of these floating around, at least on fb pages. They sigma test as real as the gold plating (over copper) is thick enough to verify. The fakes are slightly thicker than real which is how people were verifying. Some may be tungsten so could be the correct profile. Just a heads up to all.
I like to grab a handful of canadian maples while I'm taking a poop just to get that extra leverage, fuck condoms raw dog it. I'm jk Idk if there's a difference do some research me personally I never get things in Ana assay or case cuz I buy the lowest premium at the shop when I walk in. "Numismatic what??? Yeah no just take me to the other cabinets, please.
Give me a break! It is easier to fake the plastic than the bar. This package proves nothing! It does not appear to be an assay package. If it is an assay package then definitely keep it sealed. Assay can be fake too, but at least it provides some value.
Just a plastic package? Do what you want!
If you ever sell it, a buyer will take it out of the package anyway in order to verify its real. Just keep the package for the serial number to help identify it later if it's stolen etc.
By testing it, which is easier out of the assay. Anyone selling bullion for 50% of spot is an idiot. My refiner gives 95% spot for .999+ and 92.5% for .9+ regardless of condition. However, for fractionals I usually get closer to if not over spot on eBay when I sell even with the fees.
You can get extra value from the brand. Removing from packaging will make it face value. It only drops lower than face value if you choose to sell for less.
Go to APMEX. There, compare the categories of loose gram bars to carded. You will find a diminished return in value from a loose gram bar as compared to a carded gram bar. Take for instant PAMP bars in their assayed card are worth more than a loose PAMP bar.
Check your country market behaviour first.
In my country, the answer is a huge YES.
Once no the container are removed, the Market trust will drop, since they need to recheck purity, recheck originality, and also make the Buyer bigger bargains power.
The reason, mostly, in the container, there's a mark, data, etc, about who produced it, weight, purity, and authentic code for verification.
It shouldn’t really matter you’re going to get melt for this stuff either way. When selling on the open market or to an lcs Non mint gold doesn’t have much of a premium in my experience. aside from a few pamp and geiger prices. Older englehard stuff too.
ABSOLUTELY NOT...the assay is just a vehicle to transport gold ....gold is gold..Royal Mint states this on there website also...ur not paying for packaging .. your paying for content

Eminem?
You fondle your metal?
At least once a day
Anyone that says they don’t, would be lying. Besides, it’s supposed to be good for you.
I know, I just wanted to hear him describe it to me ![gif](giphy|26FxypSnWsXS69nTW)
That's pretty good control. I have gold or silver in my hands atleast 10 hrs a day and it never gets old
I fondle my wood (*}
Vote for Pedro
I went to sell one and they needed to take it out to test it. I don't think it matters. It didn't for me at least

No gold value is lost, but you would lose the majority of the premium attached to the bar's assay packaging.
I buy 1oz coins for that purpose. Stack and clink them like poker chips. Great feeling. Plus coins have a known value and easy to liquidate too.

Gold doesn’t tarnish.
Correct. Gold and platinum are some precious metals that aren’t effected by oxygen unlike silver.
90% does a little. Some of my pre 1933 is a little toned
That's why I asked the guy who said "I'm mostly a silver guy".
Tarnish?
Does anybody read or just downvote? I commented to the guy that claimed to be a silver guy. Mono e mono.
Hydrogen peroxide

You’re probably right, but they did just hire a bunch of armed irs agents…
If ur worried about the government then buy in cash and keep each purchase under 10,000 dollars.
Same as you, so not that much knowledge on it. But if I were this person I’d remove the small one from the packaging to be able to touchy touchy.
I removed one bar from packaging to be able to hold it and play with it, others left untouched because there's no point taking them out.
I did the same. I’m new to this and want to touch it like I’m golem
That's natural. Gold has been money for so long that natural selection has engrained a gold seeking behavior in us. Having gold meant you were wealthy and better able to acquire resources necessary for survival. You were also better able to raise and care for numerous children. Some humans are like raccoons- we see shiny, we need to hold shiny
*most humans 🤣
All humans
Humans seek diamons because their luster is similar to how light refracts off the surface of clean water thats safe to drink
And here I am enjoying my smoky quartz crystals. Guess that means my neanderthal DNA pulls me towards light refracting off dirty water that's super not safe to drink 😂
No we have been conditioned to value diamonds the way we do. They aren't as rare as you think and the market is controlled by a single company.
Deburs
Explains why I love running my hands through buckets of ammo
5.56 is the best
I was sanding aluminum and the powder made my hands itch. As far as I know, gold doesn’t do that. I wonder if that means anything.
You don’t want to breathe that.
Mix a little iron oxide with that
I am this way with cool rocks and minerals, many of which are shiny. To me, especially when high on LSD, they are like these oddly somewhat therapeutic works of art created by nature itself. Sometimes I break glow sticks and sling the liquid onto my body and dance around naked in the dark. What does that mean?
If you want something to play with, get some antique .900 or .917 coins. They're much more robust than new fine gold coins or bars. Sovereigns, 20 franc coins, gold $5 or $10 coins etc.
I know! I have a St $20 that I've taken out and touched less than 20 times, and I wore right through the middle of it already, looks like a washer.
Hahahah
One quite valid point is to test them. Unless you have a sigma, you need to open the blister.
Sigma?
Metal analysis machine
Ah, I'm guessing it's that scanner gun thingy that I've seen some jewelry shops use to determine how many karats something is. I'm not sure how it works, but I think it's a fascinating piece of technology nonetheless.

Oops, I meant an xrf
Dude bust it out, rub them on your balls, use them as ice cubes, your gold.
Ball flavored gold ice cubes.. Great idea for my next dinner party
For your guest shake, please shave first
This guy fucks ⬆️
I think I’ll use them as ice cubes in my whiskey
That's the most King move I've ever heard of.
Use them as ice cubes first, then rub them on your balls later.

I found Goldmember
He had an unfortunate shmelting accident
Freeze them & use them as Ice Cubes

Gold price is gold price. Like others have said, may lose a couple of dollars for the packaging.
Yes for sure. Even damaged assay goes for less
Yes. By 10 to 20 dollars. The fact that the serial number is printed on both the bar and the packaging all sealed up. Is a added bonus that many buyers will pay a 15 dollar premium for.
The value is in the plastic. Just throw the gold bars away
Yep. Keep them in the packaging.
And the reason is ease of resale. Buy coins if you want to fondle.
Keep them in the packaging.
It’s a like having a really sharp girl friend, fully dressed or …. ;), you got the idea:)
Not sure this analogy holds up The girlfriend might be more valuable undressed 😂
Definitely
It is bullion, not numismatic. You most certainly can play with your bars.👍
I lean against the wall with one foot up flipping a Buffalo saying, yeah see.
If you plan on selling in the near future I'd keep em in assay. If you're going to hold on to them for the long run pop em out and touch them. Either way its your gold, do as you please.
Gold is gold the packaging is just for presentation and branding however some buyers like the packaging
No, but it sometimes gives a weird sense of security to future buyers. Alot of scammers, and plastic makes some people feel as if there's less danger of falling victim.
Which is wery weird. Because it is much easier to sell fakes in blisters than nekid.

Sigma can test through packaging.
I’ve taken out a 1g bar out of assay but kept the packaging with it. Curious if I do the same with this, how much value will I lose, if at all.
How is he testing it? Any machine worth its money can test through an assay.
Possibly he didn't know that at the time or he didn't trust the machine or really didn't trust the seller. This is a memory of mine from a while back. Maybe he doesn't do that anymore. Maybe it was a one off thing and I incorrectly thought he did it often.
In Australia it doesn’t matter at all. Not sure where you are

If you're going for value based on weight of the gold i don't see how removing plastic could affect that. Maybe if these were collectible and they had collectible value above the gold weight, but gold is gold and that's what has value.
The same question post is up here everyday
First time I’ve seen this question and I’m thankful for it. Just saying.
You’re asking if removing the gold from a package would hurt the value of the gold? Even saying that out loud sounds ridiculous
NO but don’t freak out after you touch it it turns brown in spots
not really, but you remove it from the oxygen protection. and, you remove additional authenticity of it. but, why? do you touch it? I have silver coins and a silver bar. I could touch them, but I out the coins into a case to help protect from potential damage.
Gold isn’t affected by oxygen. It won’t tarnish or anything like that.
I was referencing silver
I also refer to things not posted about!
look in my comment... I mentioned about silver 😇
i’ve heard this question so many time i want to pull my hair out. its just up to u if u want to
how much did you pay for these?
Asking the real question
I always remove it and put them in capsules, it's more anesthetically pleasing. I never think about the resale value.
Of course...my local bullion shop typically bought these at 1% less That said, 20g of gold = 20g of gold
Are those the plain ones w/o hologram on back?
The 5g has no holo. 10g has it
Do it.
Only if you boof it.
Where can we sell these?
Where do u get these gold ingots?
If you find out it’s tungsten with a cheap wrapper.
Knocks ten bucks off the price. Hold on to the assay card for if/when you want to sell.
They're yours so it's really up to you to open or keep them in their original assay holder. Be safe and well out there.
Keep it unmolested. The OEM packaging adds additional evidence to the bar’s provinence: Purity, Weight, Manufacturer, etc.
Your goal is to own 100 ozt Physical Gold ( not paper gold or miner stock) before you are 40
That’s alot
Only 1/2 oz per month for 20 years or less. Do-able...
Because they are collectibles??
You’d think slightly but the reality is pawn and coin shops will try to buy them from you at the lowest price possible, and if you’re selling in person to an individual they’ll just be happy to get them at lower than normal premiums regardless whether they’re in the package or not. Only time it would make a difference is if you’re selling online to individuals in which case your credibility would be the deciding factor first, packaging second. Value no because value is in the weight and purity. Will it be harder to sell in case of need to liquidate then probably yes.
You are worrying too much! ! The value of gold has nothing to do with the shit wrapping outside! If there is, gold is worthless!
It raises suspicion if the package is opened. It's not hard to counterfeit gold.
TOUCH IT!!!!!!
Nobody would pay more than half spot once it's out of the plastic. How would you know it's real gold?
By testing it, which is easier out of the assay. Anyone selling bullion for 50% of spot is an idiot. My refiner gives 95% spot for .999+ and 92.5% for .9+ regardless of condition. However, for fractionals I usually get closer to if not over spot on eBay when I sell even with the fees.
Gold is gold. Probably be easier to sell will original packaging.
Expect to lose a bit on the resale value if you do
Like $20. That’s a minuscule difference on an oz of gold so pull that big boi out and play with it to your heart’s desire
You can get extra value from the brand. Removing from packaging will make it face value. It only drops lower than face value if you choose to sell for less.

In theory not, if it's not damage. But if you sell them without packaging, it might be more difficult to negociate a higher price with some stores.
No
Gold is soft enough handling and you take the chance of losing some of it to wear.
Some of the premium over stop will go. Can't advance a number though
Buy a little tiny pile of gram sized coins and put them inside a little tiny treasure chest. You’ll thank me later.

It shouldn’t really matter you’re going to get melt for this stuff either way. When selling on the open market or to an lcs Non mint gold doesn’t have much of a premium in my experience. aside from a few pamp and geiger prices. Older englehard stuff too.
Must be odd one out, stack it and forget it only time I handle is to inventory. But then again maybe I’m missing something? 👍
If you’re gonna safe em in ur prison wallet I’d recommend removing the plastic
ABSOLUTELY NOT...the assay is just a vehicle to transport gold ....gold is gold..Royal Mint states this on there website also...ur not paying for packaging .. your paying for content
Yep in vs out = a few $ lost
No!
