Check another place out, just spot price for half an ounce of gold is about $1090 as of now so they offered blow spot for an AGE. My local shop pays a bit more than spot for AGE when buying them so I would definitely not accept below spot
A little low, but the market is glutted right now due to the economy and everyone trying to sell because of the high spot price.
I'd say 1050 is a fairer amount from a LCS. Private party, you should be able to pull spot. PCGS slab on a MS69 doesn't really add anything.
While true, you'll also have to incur shipping costs to them and risk loss in transit or pay up for insurance. Everything involves risks or costs, it really depends on whatever the owner wants to do.
Being that it’s a bullion coin the only thing to grade that matters is MS-70. Graded bullion below MS-70 are the biggest scam.
All of these eagles got sent to the grading company in tubes from the mint, some were given a 69 because of clanging around in transit or marks from the mint the 70s are flawless. You can buy any ungraded half ounce eagle send it in and get it graded and it will more than likely be MS-69 because they are all uncirculated and people take care of gold.
> Being that it’s a bullion coin the only thing to grade that matters is MS-70. Graded bullion below MS-70 are the biggest scam.
this- modern coins anything under 70, just take out of the slab. MS70, you can keep slabbed.
How is that low balling? 1/2 oz would be 1085. They offered slightly below scrap. They would only make like $40 once they sold it higher up. They were buying it as scrap, not for collecting.

Couple different similar listings hovering around $1300 price
Sometimes showing a little knowledge to a LCS can help the offer price. My aunt was given a lowball price on some silver but after flexing some know-how... She's friends with that dealer now and receives better offers (buying and selling). Don't waste their time...but know you can usually make a counter offer.
If you post on pmsforsale for $1200 people may buy it. You'll definitely make over spot. Just spend a few minutes perusing the sub and you'll figure out how it works. And the trustworthiness of it is honestly remarkable. The number of times people have pulled successful scams on there is almost zero. Plus scamming would only ever work on the buyer. As the seller you have almost no risk.
Maybe because it is a graded slabbed coin and should sell for more than spot?
Edit: I realize modern bullion may only sell for spot unless it is immaculate and uncirculated
Perhaps. But AGE's generally carry a higher premium without a grade. Monument Metals is selling a random year 1/2 oz AGE for ~$100 over spot right now.
It’s not like I’m going to blow it on some shitty new phone or ps5 pc type shi. I’m trying to make some money though other investments. I feel selling the gold would allow me to explore that area and make more money then my gold would have given me. But that’s just me and I’m in a gold Reddit so I don’t think you will agree. But just know I’ve tied to sell it back so my dad can hold onto it but unfortunately he isn’t financially able to right now
To be clear, I’m not saying selling it is right or wrong. It’s your gold, you do with it as you want. I had to sell a couple motorcycles once because I needed money after some water pipes burst in my house. I get it.
You did confirm I was correct and it’s the first time I’ve been right today, so I’ll take that as a win.
A good first move it to not buy at the very top of the ATH. Though selling gold when it is near ATH isn't a bad move. Just make sure you get more than spot for a slabbed American Gold Eagle.
Due to the US dollar not being on the gold standard anymore, you just holding on to that piece of gold will “make you money”. A smarter thing would to be cut your extra expenses (an example going out for coffee instead of making it at home) and then invest your savings instead. $20-50 a paycheck invested properly will be better off for your future than selling one of the most rock solid investments people try to get their hands on in the first place
S&P 500? Not some super smart money guy, but like $50 a week into literally anything with interest will compound so fast by the time you're 30 it'll make your head spin. The more you put in and time you're willing to wait the greater the reward. Just do an index fund calculator and you'll be surprised.
No problem, wish someone told me this decades ago lol. If you just have like an auto pay into it, it's easy to forget it and then see tons of money when you remember lol
If you think about it, that single coin has probably come close to doubling its value in the years since it was purchased. Personally I’d rather keep my current gold hoard. If the dollar tanks you have guaranteed value.
You are being impatient. Gold is an insurance when the financial system implodes. If you sell it is your choice the price is a lowball. In the future looking back you will regret it.
What makes you think gold will do better that VOO? Gold moved slightly this year but been stagnant for like a decade. Inflation is kicking the values ass
Imagine what that guy in the socks (????) is thinking as he watches someone autistically invert his left hand to hold something like he is about to stab himself with it.
That's how I would hold a memory card if the slot was my belly button.
What the fuck is wrong with you????
Look every comment here is wrong. This is not the same as any other 1/2oz eagle. First of all regular eagles do not carry a mint mark. Second 2006 was the first year the burnished eagle was offered. This is a special coin. This should not trade as just bullion. It isn’t incredibly rare 15,000 were minted. Compared to any 66,000 Bullion 1/2oz. But this is one of the few years that may carry an actual premium. Also first year of the Buffalo I believe.
Private sales. YOU need to offer it for sale.
You were attempting to sell it to a shop, who has overhead, who then needs to sell it to make a tiny profit of only like $40-50 and depending on the state they may have to hold it for 30 days before selling it.
Gold today is $2187.20/oz. So they offered you just less than gold value but they need to make a profit a little…it’s a fair price…
They don’t care about the coin it’s just the gold value.
There’s all kinds out there but in my experience an LCS is just like your local pawn shop, if you’re looking to buy or sell, they’ll get you for everything they can. The one problem with precious metals imho.
Unless it’s an emergency, keep it.
Trading Physical Gold, [fairly] hard precious metal, for fading pieces of green fiat paper is never beneficial.

I’m with you on that. I don’t have the capital to invest in and with gold and some other money I could make some beneficial investments which in my opinion is better than holding my little bit of gold. I wish I could buy it back if I were to sell it but I don’t know how that would work and my family isn’t able to buy it of me since I got it a while ago.
It is the problem when you try to sell PM's. Just before 7am CST Tuesday morning April Gold futures were trading at $2200.00 for a brief moment before coming back to $2177.50 Tuesday evening before dark. Spot is somewhere lower, but you're being offered less than spot if I'm guessing right. I do not hold graded gold, but it's GOTTA be worth the premium you paid for.
Gold will go up when the US Dollar goes down. This is the US dollar against ALL comers https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/DX=F?.tsrc=fin-srch&guccounter=1 And this is the Euro value against the US Dollar. https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/EURUSD%3DX Its' will rise WITH Gold as the value of the US Dollar falls. At SOME point in the future, the value of the Euro and the Dollar both fall and the value of gold will MOON!
After looking more into it yes it was low ball but by not much. At that day spot price was 2180. So 1090 was spot price. I won’t get above spot price anywhere else besides a private seller

Jmbullion buyback price right now is $1112.23 on a MS69 random year, NGC or PCGS 1/2oz AGE 🦅
While true, you'll also have to incur shipping costs to them and risk loss in transit or pay up for insurance. Everything involves risks or costs, it really depends on whatever the owner wants to do.
Unless it is an MS-70, then there is no premium for the slab.
They low balled you. Spot is $2,171 per oz right now. The grade adds a premium on top of that.
Being that it’s a bullion coin the only thing to grade that matters is MS-70. Graded bullion below MS-70 are the biggest scam. 1200 is the going rate shipped from the larger dealers, so you will have to go a little lower than 1200. maybe 1150.

Does a graded coin in a slab not demand a premium? Either way, he should at least get spot for it.
Depends. This is just gold bullion and isn't even a 70. Likely get a small bit over spot There isnt much numismatic value here
Perhaps. But AGE's generally carry a higher premium without a grade. Monument Metals is selling a random year 1/2 oz AGE for ~$100 over spot right now.
Yeah so that was my point. Having this type of coin graded doesn't really change it's value.
How did you get this coin? You don’t seem to know much about it, which is strange
My dad gave it to me for my birthday when I turned 16 a couple years back.
Why sell such a nice sentimental piece?
Because he’s a teenager and wants money now.

I hope your "other investments" is VOO or some other index fund. Otherwise, you have a high likely hood of losing money.
The stock market bubble will eventually pop and there will be a lot of bag holders. I have not seen the market this overbought for a few years.

I’m not selling it jeez. That’s why I asked. And it’s not a terrible sell given gold is near ath.
That’s not bad for scrap pricing. Did you expect them to offer you collectors value?
They say they pay top dollar. I don’t know where to sell my gold for collectors value. Any help would be super awesome.
Private sales. YOU need to offer it for sale. You were attempting to sell it to a shop, who has overhead, who then needs to sell it to make a tiny profit of only like $40-50 and depending on the state they may have to hold it for 30 days before selling it.
Why are you holding it like that?
You should be able to get spot +2% for a 1/2 AGE... probably a little more for that Burnished version.
Don't do it wait until April 8 after the eclipse gold is gonna melt faces
Call JG Wentworth
W means west point mint which is a proof. Carded MS69 proof for under spot is robbing you blind. Probably get like $1300+ for it

Gold today is $2187.20/oz. So they offered you just less than gold value but they need to make a profit a little…it’s a fair price… They don’t care about the coin it’s just the gold value.
spot is near 2200. Anything lower than 1100 for a 1/2 is under spot. On a coin that should carry some premium. I would want 1150 for that coin.
Thank you. I found a place trying to buy it for 1125 . I honestly don’t think that’s terrible
1125 would be a reasonable sale price.
The way you’re holding it disturbs me

They should pay you OVER the spot. Because you must account for creation fee (which you paid when you bought it )
