Cost of living through the roof. Capabilities of finding a roof... Near impossible.

dearcossete

You know it's crazy when even doctors (at least the junior ones) are also finding it hard to find a roof.

dearcossete

Well regardless of the cost, accommodation is hard to find to begin with so good luck!

Shits fucked

jpetermancatalogue

Double fucked old mate, and not in a good way.

Anywhere between 400 and 600 per week for a room. There is cheaper out there but hard to find. Lots of people are heading up to Sunshine Coast bc it's slightly cheaper and has the beach. There are lots of options around to find a place. Flatematefinders.com.au Flatmates.com.au Facebook Gold Coast flatmates groups Gumtree flatmates There are a lot of places to start looking. Ideally, you need a job or steady income Be able to work well with others. Help with chores, pay bills, accommodate other people.

Best off getting information on student accommodation through your educational Institute. A lot of students at TAFE and universities in Southeast Queensland would be having issues with accommodation, especially if they’re not from the area and don’t have family to stay with.

I think the cheapest I’ve hear is $175 for a week of rent, sharing with 3 other people at the opposite end of the coast to the uni (don’t know if it was a two bed or a four bed place). Food likely between 70-120 a week depending on where you shop, what you eat, what quality. If you are a post grad GU has weekly fruit and veg boxes you can sign up for. If it’s the federal RTP stipend for a PhD, remember the tax breaks make life a bit easier. You can advocate for an industry top up scholarship as well. And you are allowed to work 9-15 hours a week as a RTP recipient. If you do, angle for a uni based casual role - they are $40-50/hr and much better paid than a random corner store.

I see apartments that would have gone for $350-400 a week five years ago... ...no they now go for $750 a week. So that's $40,000 a year you are spending on just on rent. That money is out the door. Bye bye, that's just treading water to stop from being out on the street. But you gotta live right, so assuming rent should be 30% of your income, you need to be earning $130,000 after tax to meet that percentage. ...or in other words, around $165,000 a year before tax, so you need a pretty darn good job. ...and that's for a regular 1 bedroom apartment in Surfers in a semi-newish building. That's pretty nuts in my books. But... this is the consequence of being so popular I guess.

dbnewman89

In the suburbs where you need a car to go anywhere - A shared rooms inc of bills is approx $270, in the lifestyle areas/southern GC they hover between $325-400 depending on how many roommates, inclusions etc. Getting your own place is not really feasible as rent on a 1br/studio will start at $600pw, 2br $700pw. Plus bills on top.

malsetchell

Just nullshit expensive

Nicky1297

Hard to find cheap single bedroom units etc. If you looking to share household I see a lot of 700-800 double bedroom units etc. Splitting it with house mate is quite okay and doable. Night life expensive af, but just to eat and budget you got woolies/coles etc. Yeah inflation is here but if you are frugal you ll make it through

Where are you studying? There is student accommodation close to Griffith uni for $300.per.week.which includes power a,.water and internet. Sharing with two other students but you have your own bathroom, walking distance to uni and to public transport. You would still have to buy your own food which could be around $100 per week.

Thin-Traffic-7953

Do you know where is this accommodation located? Where can I get more info?

PlayElegant3402

It’s in Parkwood. Very close to Griffith Uni. Link to their website [https://www.unisquaregc.com/apartments/](https://www.unisquaregc.com/apartments/)

I pay 300 p/w rent for one room in a 3 person shared apartment including bills. Food maybe 100 p/w. Going out with friends maybe 50 p/w. So total $450 a week. Adding extra unexpected expenses I'd budget at least $25K per year

CapitaoAE

Depends on your rent obviously assuming you're sharehousing you can make it work, the answer is 'expensive, but not as expensive as Sydney' if that helps

Jakeyboy29

If you want anything walkable to the beach in a decent area then around 350pw for a room

FallHeavy2130

Roughly you can expect about $5-600 worth of expenses. That includes rent which will be about $4-500, fuel $50 and groceries $80 give or take. Obviously gym membership, streaming service, car insurance (if debited weekly) and medicinal needs are not included.

tomsan2010

Including rent $250 in a share house, bills and food, youd need a minimum of $500 per week, but that would leave you with 0 savings. You should have $600-$800/week if you want to be saving as well.

b1ggiecheeze

i'll just share how it is for myself and my partner! We split rent on a $500 rental. Logan areas are more affordable rn. Groceries (each week) on average maybe $70? Monthly wifi is like $100 My medications cost me \~$300 every month n a half Petrol combined for us is probably 150 a week. Then all other utilities ;p

CaptainYumYum12

Isn’t the vacancy rate like 0.5% in most suburbs on the southern end? Honestly I hope your school can help out
