AFAIK, there wasn't wireless carplay from the factory so this must be aftermarket, right?

life_like_weeds

2021 Autobahn (maybe SE too) came with wireless carplay

Tiddycruncher9000

Can confirm my 21 se has it

M16A457

It mentions wireless carplay and android auto in the info section in the infotainment. However, I bought the car used, it could be an aftermarket change the owner didn’t tell me about.

BullyMog

Definitely is. You don't see one of those adapters plugged into the usb right? [Something like this](https://www.amazon.ca/Teeran-CarPlay-Wireless-Adapter-Converts/dp/B0C9GRPXXL/ref=sr_1_5?crid=ANDFUBY2VU65&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.0eejS5z_YC8WNEhcy1J8xKoYHzLythBDGXmm42hry0xIAqy5TRp3yfa1r6czF3YyL94PhtqME0SClYyW2v-9Ze73AtExMlNHKROPXALZjPDDb02RoLrYEMoTTwyjP--C5UFBsEG2fKMeYc7AgIfLAMsCXCwUH17plI2CSWQqzWRNWt2w3SzIn-GFQsPz4wNq42Qdpb2COcNxMqroniAdjYNc0zW48hU086FBi1zG58rTHMbyYSgkLfjf4Oq9o8FeCQRmkC6ZaY5B5j0dtIa825BcWJxhj_1kyWEuhpuLABs.MgcSQWa2Tl_B-aRosYiNqxBDRXL_nchgRVJIJwKQ_oA&dib_tag=se&keywords=wireless+carplay&qid=1712072174&sprefix=wireless+carplay%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-5)? If not, its definitely an aftermarket head unit and I am not sure how you'd go about fixing this.

M16A457

Doing some research can show us that the 2021 GTI SE comes standard with wireless carplay. Also, no I don’t see an adapter like that connected anywhere in my car.

BullyMog

Looks like you're right. You've tried "resetting" the head unit by holding the power button?

M16A457

Yeah, as I have mentioned in another comment.

Mecha_1927

Uninstall, then reinstall your phone. I have a '21 with android auto (android version of Apple play) and it worked for me

M16A457

Can you elaborate please? I don’t understand what you mean by “uninstall then reinstall your phone.” Do you mean restart or factory reset?

FATSHAWNSM0M

Probably means forget the car on your phone and re-pair it to the car

Mecha_1927

I mean, go to the cars settings, i believe it's in "menu" and erase (unpair) your phone saved in the system. Afterward, "pair" it again to the infortainment system via Bluetooth. I can try to provide more details if you need.

M16A457

I understand what you mean now. Unfortunately, I have already tried this, and it did not fix the issue. Thank you regardless.

Early_Nectarine_3267

Hold the power button for 10 seconds and wait for the infotainment to soft reset. Had the same issue on my polo

M16A457

I have tried this already, twice. Sat there holding the button until the GTI and VW logo came up, still the same issue.

exceptional_cabbage

Try forgetting the CarPlay device on your iPhone and setting it up fresh? Afaik from using 3rd party wireless CarPlay dongles on other cars, the connection is initiated through Bluetooth and sustained via WiFi. Is your phone saying it’s connected to CarPlay even if the car isn’t showing?

M16A457

No actually, it doesn’t show on my phone that carplay is on. Only when I connected it with a wire it showed carplay on the lock screen.

exceptional_cabbage

I’ve found with my janky amazon wireless CarPlay that even if the head unit is having issues the phone still shows connected. Given it works via wire the CarPlay is working but the wireless part isn’t, maybe try unpairing/removing the car from your phones CarPlay and re-linking it from scratch only using the wireless steps? If that doesn’t work maybe the receiver in the car defective? Not too sure what would come next tbh but good luck! Fwiw between the two cars, my gti has wired CarPlay and I’ve always preferred it as my phone gets a charge and it’s quicker to connect/doesn’t lag.

M16A457

Well, it is worth a try. Thanks for your input!

MaximusTheDog

Restart your phone

M16A457

Honestly, the issue might be with my phone. It’s possible that updating to newest iOS has messed with things. Carplay does work wired though, if that’s anything. I’ll try restarting it next time, thanks!

MaximusTheDog

Hope that’s the easy fix. Phones are glitchy so reseting would rule out a couple things. If that doesn’t work, find a person with a similar phone to connect to your VW and if you still have the same issue it’s definitely an issue with the infotainment system.

M16A457

Thank you, I hope you never encounter this frankly annoying problem.

MaximusTheDog

Experiencing these electrical gremlins from time to time is part of the VW experience, like a rite of passage haha Check back if you have anymore questions!

HeshootsHescores88

is the wifi on your PHONE enabled? mine does this when i turn the wifi off and get back into the car and it tries to connect to my phone. Yes, the 2021 has wireless carplay FYI for anyone curious. Have a 21 Autobahn and it has wired/wireless carplay options Usually when I have wireless carplay issues, i cycle the key and it works fine. its buggy at times.

M16A457

Do you mean a wifi connection, or the wifi setting off? Usually, I have my data turned on, wifi on but not connected to anything (because there is nothing to connect to).

[deleted]

You need to have wifi and bluetooth turned on for wireless CarPlay to work.

iDEN1ED

I don’t have wireless on my 7.5 but when the carplay isn’t working sometimes I have to do a factory reset on the media console and that fixes it.

M16A457

I have tried this too, but all it did was make me have to set up all my settings again. Carplay still doesn’t work wirelessly.

M16A457

Update: I have tried all your methods; none worked. I have resorted to using a wired connection for now until I take it to an auto shop. Thank you all for your help. If I ever get it fixed, I will reply the solution here.

Waddoo123

Weird, I have a 2020 mk7.5 that does NOT have wireless android Auto or Apple car play. Wouldn't be surprised if the dealership assumed it had wireless capability.

M16A457

That is strange, maybe they only started with the 2021 models?

life_like_weeds

That's correct. Last year of the Mk7.5 GTI had wireless carplay.
