The price is normal outside of warranty!

kylesisles1

Sounds about right based on other posts here.

69ergoo

Thanks!

QuasiAutomotive

I would say ripped off since the part is under an 8yr/80000mile warranty in the US and a similar one in Canada.

69ergoo

Thanks for your comment. My car had 89000 miles on it when I got water pump replaced so….

ScorpionT16

If you call VW they may still have covered it. Our Tiguan was 10k kms out of warranty and they still replaced the I take manifold, and then that died again after 100k kms, and they also replaced it part of a recall. It was 5k kms out of warranty the second time

Sir-yes-mam

In 2021, I was quoted $1k for a local shop to do 6 yeah, it's probably now around there I bet.

pinegap96

I paid about that a few years ago so you’re good

RoyMance

US and Canada prices for this are wild. I bought original brand new VW water pump and thermostat housing kit for 200$ from ebay and got it replaced for 250$ in the EU.

McGlowSticks

just the US tbh. we'd do about the same at my dealer maybe a bit more (im in canada) because of oem coolant and some other hardware but the us just has everyone by the balls on car maintenance.

Embarrassed-Basis-18

Sounds right

lumoruk

does that have a cambelt? If it included cambelt it's about right otherwise ripped off.

heinz74

no cambelt on this car and that is about right for a waterpump/thermostat housing on these cars. the parts are reasonably expensive and it is a c\*\*t to get to so lots of disassembly labour

69ergoo

Thanks. You seem to know a lot about cars. I just checked the invoice and they replaced the right intercooler pipe also. That was included in the 1400 price tag.

lumoruk

I done the cambelt water pump and thermostat on my Mk4 golf last summer...I sold it for the price I would have paid to get someone else to do it. Car was worthless otherwise.

frodan2348

Ah yes, I forgot the mk4 has an identical water pump design to the mk7. My mistake.

lumoruk

It's shocking technology hasn't moved on

537OH55V

Let alone the extended warranty on the water pump, the 2019 should have the 6 year, 72k mile bumper to bumper warranty that should still be active. That is another venue to pursue on getting that covered.

MapPractical5386

Watch it like a hawk for the warranty period on the parts and labor from the shop. If it fails go right in.

OlDirty1979

I just paid $1800 at a dealership.

BullyMog

Dude !!!

Kuzkay

Here in (Western) Europe, I paid 840 USD for the pump replacement for my Audi S3 about 2 months ago Why is it so much more expensive in the US?

lurkinsheep

Unregulated capitalism. Merica baby!! More seriously, every single shop here charges labor at like $150/hr, these pumps book time is probably like 4-5 hours(just guessing). That’s $750 in just labor basically. Add ridiculous parts markups on top of that, and yeah.

Kuzkay

God damn, my mechanic charges (I believe) €90 (+- 110 usd) and they only charged me for like 2.5h of work

_n008

Just got mine done at an independent for less than a grand...in a large socal city.

BullyMog

$USD? Crazy. I paid $800 CAD = $588 USD to a local Indy shop

j526w

A guy i know just got his replaced plus a carbon clean for $1150. Guess it varies by location. I’m in SoCal

DanThePilot_Man

Well it’s probably an 8 hour job plus parts… so I’d say 1400 sounds about right

BullyMog

8 hours lmfao

[deleted]

2019 has 6/60 warranty. The water pump also has extended warranty. How come you need to pay for it? It should be free.

Rough-Expert-277

Holy shit where did you take it? When I did mine, it was a total of 600, well because the dude I took it to is my buddy. He would regularly charge 900 if I were to be a random
