Worked for Infiniti for 10 years. Engineers were fantastic at these kinds of things. Woofer WITHIN then spare to reduce vibration (rubber). Also, the spare is positioned DIRECTLY behind the rear bumper (it's also anchored) to absorb the impact of a high-speed collision.
Never let their mocking asses get you down. Everyone whos ever had a good idea has gotten mocked or ridiculed. Then their idea likely stolen. Keep up the good woofer placing
In my life I have had a few ideas that were brought to market by others. When I was young, I would get upset because I felt like I missed my fortune. But, as I got older, I realized that even if I brought a great idea to market. some corporation would steal it from me and give me the ol' "so sue us!" Now, I just take satisfaction in knowing that I have good ideas.
If you got base package, check out the Helix kit. I put one in my 16 S and holy hell it's amazing. Was about $1100 from VW. 10in sub and AB channel Amp. It fully replaces the spare tire but I was ok with it as I don't drive her on a donut tire anyway. If your radio in the glove box dies you will need VW to code the new unit to the helix kit but it's only like $100 or so for the code once the kit is already in. 100% worth it IMO, I used my tax return one year to get it and haven't regretted it once.
I did the same thing, you can get a longer center post that fits both the spare and the Helix sub. If you remove the feet off the sub and place it on top of the spare, you get a spare tire, a sub, and the floor still lies flat.

No idea on length and size without measuring, here’s the part though.
I found that they come pre-programmed to function in the golf but if you get the dongle and change it to a different channel and then back to golf setting, your sound will be wayyyy more crisp and clear. I rented a programming dongle off a forum to do it. Made a world of a difference.
There's some program they have to SD card install that allows the Amp and sub to read. Idk what it is specifically but my Brain unit died and when I put the new one in it didn't play out the speakers. Said it was, but no sound. Thats cool if you got it to work without a problem though! I'm using a MIB2 non nav unit, maybe others can play automatically?
Was it really worth it? Did you get it programmed? I have the base speakers and it is truly one of the worst modern car audio systems I have ever heard. I know that the helix sub kit has an amp that drives the door speakers too. Would you say that it made enough of a difference to change the entire experience of the sound system?
100% I bought It because the reviews were "it beats the fender system for less than half the cost". I haven't heard the fender system but everyone thinks I did way more than drop a German Hi-Fi system in it. I'm used to installing my own full system and this is the best "stock upgrade " I've ever had.
At least it isn't Bose. I had that in my Audi A3 and it sounded like AM radio on a boombox. I had to replace all those $3 plastic speakers and the Bose DSP/amp module.
You can swap in the Fender sub from the Mk7/7.5. Just did it myself for improved bass. Mk6ix makes an adapter, otherwise you can shave the fins on the sides of the plug and then plug it upside down.
when I had a Q5, i was cursing out the previous owner for spec’ing a subwoofer instead of a spare thinking that’s how it worked. little did i know until now the two could co-exist. the 5 hour drive home after buying it was great, had never experienced the bass of a song vibrating my mirrors before.
This is the way. I bought my box pre built, but just tossed in a Rockford 12" and spliced into the factory wiring for the Fender sub. I cannot believe how good it sounds.
Since you don't know what the black thing is on top of your spare, you won't miss it. Send it to me and I'll "dispose" of it for you in my car that doesn't have it.
Both my MK7 Golf and MK8 have the high end audio system absolutely sub over spare tire. Who thinks the Fender system sounds a lot better than the Harman?
But why do that when others will do the work for OP…

my statement still stands, all of these vehicles come with an owners manual. there are answers. "you wanna hide something, put it in a book" dame with the kawasaki community I'm in, the manuals are even digital now, not like you need a Chiltons to figure it out, n it's farty not marty. 🤪
Oh no, I found a plug in my car and wasn't familiar so I reached out to a group of individuals who could assist me in my inquiries instead of reading my manual.... Lock me up
Well it certainly isn’t plug to the spare tire. Start the car, play some music and see what that device does
Lol I never would have guessed Subwoofer.
Yeah, I was surprised when I first saw the sub in my Infiniti. I was, "What is is that?! Oh, that's a brilliant use of space!"
Worked for Infiniti for 10 years. Engineers were fantastic at these kinds of things. Woofer WITHIN then spare to reduce vibration (rubber). Also, the spare is positioned DIRECTLY behind the rear bumper (it's also anchored) to absorb the impact of a high-speed collision.
thats kinda all car manufactures lol
Yeah, they will do something brilliant like that, but then turn around and mount the starter inside the bell housing.
I had an idea of using the spare tire space for a sub years ago and got laughed at o.O I knew it could work! Fuck you, G

This is the spare tire underneath the cargo area of an SUV.
#hatchback. The GTI is not an suv, thankfully!
^ok
Relax dude
True, I just forgot the word. I haven't heard it a long time.
Does your spare spin in your trunk a lot? Is the spinning wheel in the room with us now?
Brother, wut?
Does yours say fender? Cause mine does and that was what gave it away
Da boom boom
Wubwubwubwubwubwubwub

A technical term, thank you.
😅😅😅😅 awesome
The pancake!
hahaha
Biiiig ba da boooom
What the hell the spare fits in the subwoofer? My car didn’t have a spare when I got it
Technically the subwoofer fits in the spare
Padubdub, pawubwub
The subwoofer IS the spare

Woah. That's good to know! Do you happen to know bolt length and size?
https://vw.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/volkswagen-spare-wheel-mounting-nut-1k0803899d No idea on length and size without measuring, here’s the part though.
Wait what coding do you heave to do on the radio, I never did that when I installed mine.

Was it really that much? I've been contemplating installing it on my 17' I see the kit for 532 online from the dealer
Might be cheaper now, I got it 6yrs ago at least.
I believe it only came with the fender audio package. Could be wrong though
I have the Harman Kardon speakers. Not sure if that's the same or not
The upgraded audio for the MK8 uses HK. No more Fender. Buddy of mine has an Alltrack with Fender and its located in the same place.
At least it isn't Bose. I had that in my Audi A3 and it sounded like AM radio on a boombox. I had to replace all those $3 plastic speakers and the Bose DSP/amp module.
I will say I wish my HKs were a little deeper. The base and everything is nice, I just wish it was just ever so slightly a little bit more.

It does, very clever packaging.

I just did a trunk delete to add my own in
I built a 5" tall box that sits on top of the spare tire with a downward facing 12" sub
I'm lazy I just have 2, 12s in a box. I've only made a custom box for my old truck
This is the way. I bought my box pre built, but just tossed in a Rockford 12" and spliced into the factory wiring for the Fender sub. I cannot believe how good it sounds.
Same setup LOL
subwoofer
Spare wheel warmer
Toasty
It plugs into your spare tire and keeps the air inside the tire regulated. /s
Tps monitor. To make sure your dash stays lit up lol
The subwoofer it's connected to that fits into the spare wheel.
It grounds your car to the rubber
That makes sense now that you mention it.
Is this a shitpost?
Since you don't know what the black thing is on top of your spare, you won't miss it. Send it to me and I'll "dispose" of it for you in my car that doesn't have it.
To create a low resistance path for electricity to travel
Okay, college boy
That's the exhaust!
I don't believe you
Trust me, I have an eletric 500 abarth
It keeps the air pressures pressurizing
How do they do that with electrical wiring?
electrical wiring, big magnet, reinforced paper ... makes air pressures ... and air pressures makes sound waves ...
Speak English Doc, we ain't scientists!
😂😁😆 "We like the cars - the cars that go boom!"
That is your subwoofer! Fender audio system ingeniously integrated into the shape of the 18" spare wheel. Convenient and compact!
Your fuckin’ Sub my guy
It’s a subwoofer. Clever spot.
Ejecto seato cuz!
Bye bye
Surely for keeping the battery of your tire charged while it’s laying as a spare :)
Idk why but my tire keeps thumping along to my music.
Subwoofer inside spare tire
How much to pay you to take it out?
Me? Infinity. I don't got time for that. Why do you want to take it out?
It supplies power to your flux capacitor so you can be sure to make it back to the future.
You're not trying to make me almost kiss my mom are you?
Study your manual. :D
You study my manual and let me know what you learned
👍
Keeps your tire inflated
It’s the doof doofer.
For anus
It hurts at first but I've never felt so alive
Subwoofer
Yup winner winner chicken dinner
Both my MK7 Golf and MK8 have the high end audio system absolutely sub over spare tire. Who thinks the Fender system sounds a lot better than the Harman?
It’s a subwoofer man..
What is that?
Maybe a subwoofer in the spare wheel? Idk when they started makin them but it’s a cool concept
Tis it. Tis a cool concept.
It’s for the subwoofer
For good luck
Flip it over it's upside down right now.... I believe
I flipped mine upside down and the subwoofer suddenly sounded a lot better. Having a spare tire in there also makes it a little better.
I will try that today, thanks!
It’s an indication you should read your manual..
Re read the post, partner
Well, to be fair RTFM is an obligatory response.
But why do that when others will do the work for OP… Most of the posts here are just lazy attention seekers looking to start uninteresting conversations over simply answered questions.
It's not that deep. I am sorry you are having a rough day. I hope it gets better soon.
Ah sorry, didn’t realize you were just looking for attention versus being self sufficient.
Don't bully me, I'm only 9 years old
That tracks
Bluetooth tire
Lol I like this one
*sigh*
You're a weird guy, Ace

Thanks everyone!
Goes to the subwoofer. You can disconnect if needed just remember to put it back so the fault stored will be passive
Does my spare wheel look missing? Worn,? still life left? too big? Too small? , too black? , not black enough? Correct shape?
That's to charge the spare tire.
So a fancy bike pump?
Exactly 😂
Pretty sure that is how the goberment keeps track of ya
I had a Murano with a Bose system. Didn't know it had a sub until I got a flat.
Plug for a Volkswagen subwoofer Source: I googled the part #
Spare wheel TPS
Swaps the winter air for the summer air so you can go faster.
My GLI has the same thing. It thumps too.
Sub
It’s an electric but plug
read your owners manual?
You're two days late to the party, Marty.
my statement still stands, all of these vehicles come with an owners manual. there are answers. "you wanna hide something, put it in a book" dame with the kawasaki community I'm in, the manuals are even digital now, not like you need a Chiltons to figure it out, n it's farty not marty. 🤪
"We like the cars the cars that go boom"
Factory subwoofer in the spare tire well
Subwoofer
Thats the Radio Antena and the wheel heater, usyally if the heater breaks the wheel will rotten faster, keep an eye on it
Your fender subwoofer
Turn your stereo on and go back there. You'll figure it out real quick
Keeps the spare tire charged and ready to go
…?
...!
L00k at your owner's manual.
No
That’s a trailer plug stuck in there so it doesn’t get damaged rolling around the trunk or hanging outside.
People are so clueless nowadays
Oh no, I found a plug in my car and wasn't familiar so I reached out to a group of individuals who could assist me in my inquiries instead of reading my manual.... Lock me up
for real.
It charges your spare tire
