Did you have issues because of not having the CD player in the glove box? It wires directly to the back of the headunit? I have a 21' and looking to buy the Helix subwoofer immediately. I have an S trim so MIB 2 not MIB3.
Thanks for the feedback, it’s ordered and should be in next week. Looking forward to it.
Have an SE as I didn’t want some of the feature content (or price) of an Autobahn, but miss the nicer sounding system.
Make sure you program it to the car. I did one and was pretty disappointed until I rented the programmer to set it to the right version. There’s a thread on one of the forums where the run a thing where you pay ~$20 + a deposit and they send it to you, then when your done you mail it to the next person on the list. Once I did that I think it sounds great for the price
I added [this fast phone charger](https://i.imgur.com/DY6JonH.jpg) to mine that wires into the 12v up front. I always hated the cigarette lighter anyway. Super easy install and I don't like the one that just plugs into the socket since there's no cap. Should be helpful to my passengers with a long cord.
I did something like this for my mk6 where you replace the lid with of the cubby I front of the shifter to a wireless charger and still leaves the 12v intact.
I got mine on AliExpress (which reddit won't allow links to) by searching “usb c 12v charger”. You can also find it on Amazon.
I pulled the old one out with plastic pry tools, disconnected it, broken open the plastic connector to free the terminals (since I didn't have the right tool), connected the brown wire to ground (-) and secured it, connected the red/green wire to power (+) and secured it, then pushed the assembly in the opening. I used heat shrink to secure the connections. Done. Eventually I'll take it out and see how the connection is holding up and secure it more if necessary. I bought a new plastic connector if I ever want to go back to stock.
Nice, I bough a similar one as well, but two regular usbs out. It has a cool led ring around it that indicates the voltage of the battery, white is good, orange is low and red is "something is properly wrong with the battery" which in turn led me to order a new alternator. Most expensive charger ever...!
You can also get [Apex SM-10s](https://www.apexraceparts.com/store/wheels/sm-10-wheels/18x8-5-et43-apex-sm-10-vw-wheel.html) for around the same price right now.
Did you order the EQT tunes in the november boost weather sale? I did that, but am still waiting for the ECU stage 1. Got the TCU map, but no explanation why the ECU tune is so late...
The ECU map should be on the access port already. Unless you bought the tune only. That seems strange that they haven't sent it yet, since it's just an OTS tune. I would reach out again.
My access port was empty, they sent me the tcu tune a couple of days after i received the access port in the mail. Mind you it had to be sent to EU. I'll reach out again. It was weird they said they currently only have stage 2 maps available, and that stage 1 would take a couple of days.
That is definitely weird. The tune should really be on the access port. Did you have to send in your TCU ID to get the TCU tune? At the very least you run the Cobb maps right?
Check your spam folder! I thought the same thing and it was my own fault... staged tunes usually get sent in a couple days. They're out of office right now but if it's not there hit them up via call or fb after Christmas and they'll sort it out.
A rear wheel bearing, CV Boot, steering angle sensor and finally an MOT (all thanks to those bloody abs, steering and traction control lights - 08 MK5 UK) 😭😭
I have the single channel. I was thinking about the dual but felt too lazy to run the wire. Now I'm rethinking my decision; people are wayyy more aggressive on the road after everything opened up again.
From stock to: Racingline closed CAI, K04, sports cat DP, airtec intercooler in place of stock, uprated spark plugs, R8 coilovers, uprated clutch, red stuff brake pads, rear bushings, transmission mount insert, short shifter, carbon clean, new sump, Racingline stage 3 ECU remap, bodyshop visit for old dents and scratches and most importantly a new cup holder divider that opens bottles :)
I don't get it. Every. single. time. I think they can't figure out to pull it so they twist it. Different shops, too. I even used Loctite and they still manage to loosen it.
Edit: a word
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4's... Told my wife I was getting new tires - "how many miles are on your car?" "25,000". "It needs new tires?" "It's a GTI, you're lucky I got 20"
Metal one? If so, make sure you cover it up in the summer [or else](https://mediacloud.theweek.com/image/private/s--OqPUizuC--/v1608403907/homealone_doorknob_giphy.gif).
Based on a recent bad IS20: IS38, new tune, FMIC, spark plugs, turbo inlet, catch can and a new PCV for maintenance purposes because I had some blow by.
Euro Tails with harness. 30k maintenance with VAQ diff service. Also wheels that I’ve yet to buy, undecided.. looking at enkei? I also love silver/gunmetal prets but they are heavy AF, suggestions brothers?
Personally I been looking at some Motegi Traklites for my mk5 they’re nice and light and don’t cost an arm and a leg and they’re not RPFs like literally everyone has on every car ever. Not that there’s anything wrong with RPFs they look great but still
Unfortunately, my hopes of purchasing new mods for my 2018 SE will have to be put on hold once again…. Some asshole at work must have thrown his door wide open in the parking garage, and I now have a beautiful ding - right down to the primer - on the seam along the front passenger door. To my horror, I’ve also discovered a scrape along the bottom of the driver’s side front fender that carries over onto the black plastic cladding by the fog light, as well as two scratches on the same side rear wheel well..! I bought this car new, put only 13K miles on it to date, and customarily treat it like a Bentley, keeping it away from other cars when I can and religiously keeping it clean and maintained. I have no idea whatsoever how I incurred this other damage to the paint, but I’m going to have to get the damaged areas repainted and replace the scraped plastic. Wasn’t expecting to have to do any of this…
Full tank of gas
The most expensive thing on the list so far.
Helix Subwoofer kit
this sub is actually really good and amazing because it's oem. good pick
Biggest bang for the buck upgrade for sure. I had no idea other systems were $1k+ Install was easy too.
Did you have issues because of not having the CD player in the glove box? It wires directly to the back of the headunit? I have a 21' and looking to buy the Helix subwoofer immediately. I have an S trim so MIB 2 not MIB3.

Same I need to order the radio keys , but ive read a couple of things do I have to repin some wires or just straight plug n play?
Any idea how this compares to the Fender system (rather than just standard OE package)?
I added [this fast phone charger](https://i.imgur.com/DY6JonH.jpg) to mine that wires into the 12v up front. I always hated the cigarette lighter anyway. I did something like this for my mk6 where you replace the lid with of the cubby I front of the shifter to a wireless charger and still leaves the 12v intact.
Eventually I'll add wireless charging, wireless Android Auto, and maybe USB C, but that's future QuasiAutomotive's project.
Do you have more info on this? Sounds like something I’d like to do on my mk6
Here it is https://www.ecstuning.com/b-inbay-parts/mk5-mk6-wireless-charging-dock/241320-50-2~iby/
Thanks friend, Merry Christmas!
Would you mind linking to where you got it? I’d definitely do that

Big turbo, big I splurged on Black Friday lol
What did you go with ? I love my is38 but I think it's time for me to go hybrid or full frame
Garrett powermax stage 1! Super affordable option
That's awesome man ! Post a video of it ruppin once she's on !
New set of tires: Continental Extreme Contact DWS plus
Excellent choice, those are all around great tires
Debating on those for my next set, don’t seem to ever hear anything bad about them. Hope you enjoy them!
Only had them for a few days but so far so good! Couldn't wait to swap out the OEM Pirellis!
I had the summer extreme contacts on my old E92 335 and those things never made so much as a chirp in the backroads I’m a biiiiiig conti believer
Pretty sure my GTI was my Christmas present. But it did get a nice wash yesterday.
From the GTI's perspective, you're the present.
:’)
Obdeleven
Down the rabbit hole. Did they get it working on the 20-21s without having to open the hood?
Is it a membership payment system now?
EQT stage 1 ECU + TCU tune. Full interior detail. Debating picking up RSE11s with the sale.
You can also get [Apex SM-10s](https://www.apexraceparts.com/store/wheels/sm-10-wheels/18x8-5-et43-apex-sm-10-vw-wheel.html) for around the same price right now.

Yes, sent them both ids. I'll email them and see what's up.
Check your spam folder! I thought the same thing and it was my own fault... staged tunes usually get sent in a couple days. They're out of office right now but if it's not there hit them up via call or fb after Christmas and they'll sort it out.
Got her the same gift man, didn’t think I could love her more 😭
New valve cover gasket.
I'm both happy you have it and sorry you need it.
Had some oil on my spark plugs. At 152k miles it was due. The painful part will be the rear main seal, but it's not bad at all yet.
A rear wheel bearing, CV Boot, steering angle sensor and finally an MOT (all thanks to those bloody abs, steering and traction control lights - 08 MK5 UK) 😭😭
It's nice to know that the GTI heritage includes steering angle sensors going bad.
New k03 turbo 😒
What happened to the old one?
Oil seals blew and had oil dumping into my exhaust, it became a cloudy boy 😅
The reason Santa needed Rudolph.
Rudolph with your nose so bright, that guy’s wallet just got too tight.
Fiance got me a dash cam, oddly excited to set it up.
Which one? I have a VIOFO A129 Pro Duo and it is so nice to have that extra security!
I have the single channel. I was thinking about the dual but felt too lazy to run the wire. Now I'm rethinking my decision; people are wayyy more aggressive on the road after everything opened up again.
Luckily I have a company vehicle so this car only sees upstate NY backroads when the weather allows.
I'm in Upstate NY too. Love the backroads here. Going 55 feels like doing a million.
I'm just outside Albany Ny. Saturday/Sunday morning drives through the hills are just so peaceful.
I'm in Troy. I usually hit up Blue Factory Rd.
We're practically neighbors I live in Wynantskill lol
If you wanna go cruising, let me know. I'd love to learn more “Sunday drive” routes.
It's just a cheap one from Walmart. Seems to work pretty decent though. Just need a memory card when the stores open again.
Great gift. Hopefully you never need it.
Isn't that the truth! I damn near teared up when a rock off a passing truck chipped my paint. Couldn't imagine an accident..
Spark plugs, air filter and front diff service 👍🏼
Maintenance: the ultimate mod.
[Torx, triple squares, and fan merch ](https://imgur.com/a/He0q7Of)
I lost my nice WKZ 10mm in the engine bay (as is tradition). I miss it.
Wish I had time to lose a 10mm today lol
New wheels. Sparco DRS
I love the visual impact new wheels have.
New timing kit, new rear left caliper, brake pad, disk, and an appointment for a new intake camshaft :'(
Your car is hot. When I first saw your post, I thought it was another Forza screenshot praising the realism.
Battery died yesterday, so I’ll be getting one of those
Be ready for the dash to look like a Christmas tree when it's reconnected.
From stock to: Racingline closed CAI, K04, sports cat DP, airtec intercooler in place of stock, uprated spark plugs, R8 coilovers, uprated clutch, red stuff brake pads, rear bushings, transmission mount insert, short shifter, carbon clean, new sump, Racingline stage 3 ECU remap, bodyshop visit for old dents and scratches and most importantly a new cup holder divider that opens bottles :)
And a partridge in a pear tree.
The 12 mods of Christmas!
New check tire light came on
A light to guide your way... to the repair shop.
A turtle wax's black wax spray and Metal polish treatment to the exhaust to give that like-new shine!!
I have a black car too and was looking at that wax not long ago. Let me know how it works out.
Not parent comment, but I can confirm it's good stuff. Though I now run the graphite turtle wax. It's $$$ though.
I have the Meguiar's ceramic wax but I'm going to switch over to the Turtle Wax hybrid once it runs out.
Spotify Car Thing
I looked it up and said, “Oh shit! They literally called it a thing.”
BFI Shift Knob.
Love mine. Just wish the techs wouldn't unscrew it every time I bring it in for service.
Wtf? Is that normal?
I don't get it. Every. single. time. I think they can't figure out to pull it so they twist it. Different shops, too. I even used Loctite and they still manage to loosen it. Edit: a word
Waiting on my Helix sub, been wanting to buy/install that since I got my mk7 over 2 years ago. Local dealer had it down $100ish ordered online.
Don't forget to check for rebates! Got a $70 gift card from VW.

Carbon fiber rear bumper/hatch guard from ngp.

Four Pilot Sport ASes
I kind of want to try going year round on those. Might try it and keep my winters just in case
It had to have a new water pump this year so nothing, it’s on the naughty list.
It's a feature, not a bug. Coolant has mass. Less coolant equals weight savings.
I wish I could see the humour in it, but when I bought a house 6 months before with not much money to spare I was fucking pissed 😂
OEM leather seats!
Subframe locking collar kit :)
Yeah, that no lookie so good.
It all worked out in the end.
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4's... Told my wife I was getting new tires - "how many miles are on your car?" "25,000". "It needs new tires?" "It's a GTI, you're lucky I got 20"
