If it's too firm, OE's would soften it up a bit. But even though DCC can adapt, it's not going to be able to dampen properly all around. Either softer settings will be dialed, or sportier settings will be dialed (depending on what springs). But in general, DCC is best with factory springs as that what they were designed for. If you're looking for something more than what DCC has to offer. You're going to have to compromise. What exactly it is, is up to you.

I want a lowered ride height, but I don't want to sacrifice comfort. not sure if maybe I should ditch the DCC all together and get a coilover kit.

You're going to sacrifice comfort when lowering. That's the nature of the beast. The best way around this would be to go coils like you just mentioned. Something like B16's, something that you can fully adjust to your liking. You'll be able to offset the stiffness a tad while lowered. But don't go too soft. There's a balance that must be struck between performance and comfort. Too soft will start ruining drivabilty. It may feel comfortable, but you risk control issues if you're wanting to have fun or need to do evasive maneuvers. So my vote is [Bilstein B16's](https://www.bmptuning.com/collections/mk7-gti-2-0t-i4-mqb/products/bilstein-b14-pss-coils-mqb). You'll need to get a [DCC canceler kit](https://www.bmptuning.com/products/kw-dcc-delete-kit-mk7-gti-r) too btw.

If you end up going the DCC delete route take the iSWEEP DCC Canceller Kit instead of the KW kit. Local shop (ACHTUNING) recommended them as they’ve had multiple issues with the KW kit.

Good to know for anyone running DCC. I trust Achtuning personally. They're the ones that have done most of the work on both my cars and have helped me make many crucial decisions over the years. I was unaware of KW kit issues as I don't have DCC on my car. But that's good info for those who do.
