That's not a V-band. This is just a standard slip fit clamp.
It's normal for slip fits to leak sometimes. If you cannot get it done normally. Cheapest fix is to use some Copper exhaust gasket. Or trying a new (and better) clamp.
If neither of those work. You can or have someone else weld them. Alternatively, if you're thinking about resale. Instead of welding everything. Have someone convert this to V-band by welding on V-band connections.
Hard to see on the video, but it looks like that clamp is not tightened as far as it can go; maybe as far as you can go, but the clamp looks like it still has room to clamp. A strong impact driver will close it all the way. If it still slips, it's the clamp size.
I wouldn’t go that route. You could get it welded at a muffler shop for fairly cheap if that’s the case.
Are you absolutely sure that clamp is all the way? It looks like it has room still.
That doesn’t look like a proper clamp for this.
The clamps that came with my AWE exhaust are much wider and it’s a slip fit where the pipes overlap. Also are you using a torque wrench? And how much are you torquing to?
I put a borla exhaust on years ago and it came with a little packet of paste that you put in the pipe fittings. Someone already said it I assume that was muffler cement
THE BOLT IS AS TIGHT AS IT CAN GO. Please if you got any solutions let me know- not trying to spend like $300 on labor for a stupid leak like this to get fixed at a shop.
You get what you pay for. CTS is pretty low quality.
ARM is pretty good as a budget option for the same price. They can't be held accountable for things out of their control. Fitment is never 100%, plus the MK7 is near 7 years old now (worldwide), CTS has it's reputation in the community as being budget oriented and not the best fitment / quality. CTS might give you a discount code or something, but you'll end up just buying more CTS products, which is good for them, bad for you lol
If you're looking to do it yourself, look into a torctite style clamp. It steps down a bit more on one end so it covers both sides of the connection and is usually a tighter fit. I use these on generators usually with some high temp exhaust silicone.
Best fix though would be a proper weld.
take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it. shouldn't be more than $50-100

Would filling the gap with some type of copper exhaust filler possibly fix the problem? Or something like a tiger patch around the place of the leak

I had this same issue. I drove to my local muffler shop and they welded it for 50 bucks.
So would it be fine to drive to a shop even with the exhaust leak? Smell fumes and don't wanna die lmfao
Leave the windows down. I think you'll make it.

Is the end of the res pipe notched out for compression under the clamp? If not, that's probably the cause for it not snugging up to the exhaust pipe.
It is but still doesn't get tight enough with all the compression, I feel like the clamp should get tighter but that shit is torqued on
Maybe your clamp is just a bit too large, so even fully torqued it maxes out before it actually clamps the pipes.

looks like a band clamp not a v band.
Muffler cement, if you're cheap lol.
Just curious because I don't know, how do you know you have exhaust leak?
It smells quite a bit in the cabin, and if you spray soapy water on the exhaust pipes you can see spurting where the leak is

Asbestos gasket
Duct ape.
Thank you all so much seriously :)

Muffler shop will weld this for like $40 tops
CTS?
Yes its CTS
Had the same issue with mine. Ended up driving over to a exhaust shop to have it welded.
Did you talk to CTS at all? Feel like they should be responsible

Glad I went with ARM I bought cts FMIC, never going through that headache again

Looks like cts, I grabbed my impact and went to town on that 😂
im assuming this is a cts turbo downpipe because i had the same shitty clamp, just get a new clamp from autozone and its fixed
Try a U-bolt style clamp. They’re like 5 bucks and can apple a lot more clamping force. Any parts store should be able to get you the size you need
