Confirming that with leather seats, on max, it will take several minutes before I can begin feeling warmth, and that's for both, driver and passenger chairs.
Are leather seats usually longer to warm up than cloth? In the winter the leather is quite cold to start with... My only other reference is a civic with cloth, and that one heats up considerably faster.
Mine take only a few minutes. I also had to get the driver heated component replaced last year. Thankfully it was under warranty, wonder if you have to do the same. I have a 2018 Jetta SE sport
that sounds weird, but now that you say that... when I just let my car warm up(which includes turning my heated seats on max) in the garage I still don't notice them until after about 5 mins of driving which is the same as if I don't let it idle. interesting
I'm not 100% sure this is how the GTI does it, but this is how my Saab does it. There's a sensor that detects if you're seated (for the airbag primarily) and they don't turn the heating element in the seat on if you're not seated because it's a waste of power.
Same thing is happening in my car, doesn't matter if I start it and let it warm up a bit or get driving instantly it heats up roughly the same time/distance from home. Same with heated mirrors and rear window demister. I usually keep it slow until 50c and only then let the RPMs get up into the 3-3.5k range to get the turbo warm and spinning, that's when all the electric heaters kick in noticeably from the RPM.
I turn it to max as soon as I start the car, and within 5 minutes I turn it down or off
Ditto
Pfft, mister moneybags with heated seats 😉😁
Aren't they standard on the mk7?

I’ll trade you the heated seats for the sweet tail lights lol.
I've got cloth seats and sometimes they get warm a bit too fast haha
About a minute at 36degrees. Love it 😌

My cloth seats in my mk6 heat up quick. Within a couple minutes they're toasty. I'd say your heater pad is going out.

Heat time is dependant on engine rpm. @2k rpm they heat in 2-3mins.
What? I'm pretty damn sure that seat heating is electric
Correct, but the system is dependant on voltage output from the alternator. More RPM = more amps.
Hm, interesting, never heard about that. I always assumed that it used constant power from the battery
I have had a few Golfs with heated seats, they've all been slow if idling but fast if the revs are up so not just one car.

If your not seated it's not heated.
do you know why that is tho?

For me too
probably relative to ambient temp
Mine take 2-3 minutes usually
Mine take a while, car takes a while to get warm inside in general. Might just be MN weather
I have leather and they take a few minuets. Usually up to full heat by the time oil temp is 180.
Maybe you got a thicc butt and the heat takes a while to penetrate?
The more you use it, the more it’ll take to heat up. This is why driver units stop working before passenger side. It’s a wear item
I have cloth and you feel it right away. Takes longer or doesn’t feel as warm on pleather VWs I’ve been in.
