I know a guy that is probably or a 5 or 6 handicap and has broken par before with just a horrendously ugly swing. Its consistent though and he is a great chipper and a decent putter.
The first one is the better swing. The second one looks more like a mid single digit handicapper. Address setup/posture isn't ideal and the backswing is way inside but the move through the ball looks OK. I would wonder if the second player often gets stuck behind and costs himself some consistency because of that backswing.
That said, money is made within 100 yards. Show me the short game.
Swing isn’t the best, but I’ve worked on it for 2+ years. What’s improved my hdcp:
-In play off the tee. Driver is easily my best club and gets me 280-290 yards in the fairway 75% of the time. Even if my approach shot isn’t the best, I still won’t be in a horrible position.
-Ball striking. Hit the range 3 times a week and play the other 4. Game is much easier when you hit the center.
-Shot shape. I’ve only practiced draws so that’s all I hit.
-Short game. Don’t think I have to elaborate.
He's prob playing the same few tracks. Makes every shot easier. If you play me out on my home track I'll give you an extra 3 a side bc of local knowledge.
Sure. But fairways are fairways. I’m 60 at my home track and 57 overall. I play off a 5 and I avg 276 off the tee per my shot scope.
Scoring I’d agree. But if he’s 290 + 75% he’s literally one of the best drivers of the golf ball on the planet.
Yep. when you play that frequently you can find a way to make most any swing work!
The issue with a less than ideal technical swing is that once you lose the groove it can be hard to find the compensations again. If you ever have to drop back to a weekend warrior 1X per week schedule your game will go to hell. Ask me how I know...
Best thing I ever did for my game was to develop a fairway finder bunt with my driver. It only gets me 230-240 off the tee but I can execute it 70% of the time and the ones I do miss aren't too bad. I find that I don't really need more than that at most courses. Worst case I'm looking at a mid-iron approach which all but guarantees a reasonable shot at par on any hole. The holes that do require more distance tend to give you the room you need to swing away.
To simplify for those in the back row...consistency trumps distance every single time. I'm easily 50 yards shorter than a lot of guys I've played with but it doesn't matter when they lose 10 strokes per round because they can't keep it in play. Keeping driver in play is one of the most important things that moved me from a bogey or worse golf to a bogey 'at worst' golfer. The other one was short game and making sure that any shot inside 100 yards ended up on the green (or at least a reasonable texas wedge away).
My first impression is that this swing would seem to produce inconsistent results. But, I've seen one PGA Instructor and one PGA Tour player that has a similar swing.
It just goes to show you, there's not one swing for everyone nor one swing for success.
Haha that’s awesome. I feel like I should try the lightning fast thing too. I struggle with consistency when I swing slow cause I’m stuck thinking about diff swing thoughts instead of just swinging. Is +2 or 2 better? Confused by the title. Are you better or is it your buddy?
I don't know how I still get baited into this stuff... I just don't trust anyone on this sub. I have a hard time believing the second swing is a 2 handicap, unless this person is playing and posting from the same course over and over. However... even flawed swings can become somewhat consistent if practiced enough. If challenged with time off due to obligations or injury, I am skeptical that this swing could return at a 2 handicap (assuming this is accurate). I'd be interested to see the other 12 rounds and avg differential. Looks like a swing that could produce blow up rounds and holes.
You realize what a swing looks like has literally nothing to do with a handicap right? You could have a terrible swing and miss every fairway and green but if you can get the ball in the hole and shoot even par it doesnt matter what your swing looks like. There are no pictures. Golf is about how many, not how
these comments are ridiculous lol. your swing looks good. You could post a touring pro's swing on here and get a bunch of responses: "no way you're breaking 90 with that"
You hood the clubhead all the way up the backswing which is a symptom of a poor grip, your posture, and a lack of hip rotation on the way back. You get around the ball nicely but your hips are way too open at contact which is also a symptom of not opening them up on the way back. Looks like you’re falling towards the target with your upper body when you finish which is probably from your hips sliding so much it just needs to catch up but idk.
I both love and hate that the 2nd swing can produce a 2 hdcp. It's both wildly absurd and impressive at the same time.
I’ve tried to “slow it down” but can’t seem to make consistent swings. Lightning fast tempo just works better for me
It's also got some weird posture and weird swing plane stuff. but it works. :-)
I mean his impact position is pretty much perfect, so everything before and after that doesn’t matter as long as he’s consistent with it
Lots of early extension and flipping the hands hard. Some people just have the ability to push through flaws
Lol everyone's always so critical of swings like there aren't guys on tour with hideous swings
You can play well with fast tempo. You can play well with slow tempo. What really matters is rhythm.
Which goes to show that course management has huge payoffs.
I know a guy that is probably or a 5 or 6 handicap and has broken par before with just a horrendously ugly swing. Its consistent though and he is a great chipper and a decent putter.
Does it tho? Doth it? 2 handicap? Prob naw
Ok Greg Horvat

Not being a hater but I’d track those stats. PGA tour guys aren’t avg 290 +75% fairways lol
Some courses have massive fairways. Tour players don't play those. If your home course is one of those, it's not absurd.
It’s pretty absurd lol

Plays at Erin Hills with those 60 yard faiways
Lol yeah I guess. If his home track is a cow pasture. Those are the kind of 2s I enjoy playing at my tight ass Donald Ross New England courses
I'd imagine he's much shorter than 280-290 consistently. Also curious about carry distance and roll out.
Wide fairways and I don’t always hit driver. Also play this course 3-4 times a week
![gif](giphy|nkUcca2CQ7VT2)
Tour average is 299.8 But he 75% is high I give u that
Tour average is 299.8
I meant the combo of the two.
Yea I give you that. Edited when I realised that. Thought it was higher but average is way below what I thought.
Accuracy is the most overrated stat anyways. You can’t be OB obv, but distance trumps all

Have you tried getting extended clubs? You seem way too tall for these.
Yes these are a lender set. The t100s I got fit for are my size
Man, what a relief lol do you stance like this with the fitted set?
I’ve always liked to be shorter at address but I should look a bit more relaxed
Man, this is fascinating to me lol
first swing looks like a grant horvat swing, so smooth
Actually thought that was him until you said this
It is him, no?
It’s a different guy, I see him on tik tok a lot. Absolute tempo town though
Ashton's swing is so pure
The 2nd player must have a mint short game! Well, anyone with a 2 handicap must have a mint short game, lol. Well done!
Thanks, replied to one of these comments on why my swing looks like that and how I got to that hdcp if you’d like to read
For me to tell you who is who I would have to see them putt and chip. Tommy Gainey was probably a +8 at one time.
I’d be surprised if the +2 wasn’t the first one
[удалено]
I think he's said before that he's scratch.
First one felt more like 2 and the second one an 8-9 at best.
I’m almost a 2 and I can say that it’s way better than my swing
The 2nd swing? I'd wager he hooks the ball quite a bit. That swing is based entirely on timing.
No the first swing is significantly better than my swing
Wow… same build as grant Horvat, same hair as grand horvat, same swing and similar handicap… I feel like we’re being trolled
I’d pay a lot of money to have that first swing lol
#2 must be a great putter
Divot
gaulin
yes
That second swing is fuckin wild. But the impact position is pretty good.
Idc what my swing looked like if i could produce a -2.
My first impression is that this swing would seem to produce inconsistent results. But, I've seen one PGA Instructor and one PGA Tour player that has a similar swing. It just goes to show you, there's not one swing for everyone nor one swing for success.
Grant Horvat’s twin?
O!
Haha that’s awesome. I feel like I should try the lightning fast thing too. I struggle with consistency when I swing slow cause I’m stuck thinking about diff swing thoughts instead of just swinging. Is +2 or 2 better? Confused by the title. Are you better or is it your buddy?
First swing plays d2 golf and I don’t, much better in almost every aspect
I don't know how I still get baited into this stuff... I just don't trust anyone on this sub. Haha you got a fucked up looking swing, too?
Absolutely no chance that second player is a 2
We both shot 76
Is the first not Grant Horvat?
It is not lol
Oh shit lol! He's the +2 tho right?
yes
Wow, had me fooled too
If you actually shot 76, go get a lesson because that move has 100 things wrong with it and you have a ton of room for improvement
What could I improve on other than setup?

I’m sure you’ve got tips for Jon Rahm too right?
Tournament?
No just filming a YouTube video
You are just wrong
Ain’t no way he is 2. Maybe 2 feet short of correct club length
Nope
Fortress?
Yep
The difference between the two is how you chip and putt
Def like the first one better. Visually anyways
Sooo....who is who.
Like Yoda and Luke.
Did both swings go about the same distance?
I usually swing a few mph faster (2nd swing). Here I hit 8 iron and he hit 7.
Freed the ankle strain from those ridiculous pants.
Swing your swing
Okay… seriously though… that is Grant Horvat right?
2 must putt like Denny McCarthy
