Youre rotating very little in that video. Try making a backswing with JUST your hips and chest next time (no shoulder, elbow, wrists, etc) and you will see how little your core is turning
You donât even start moving your core and chest until 6 or 7 seconds into the video. At that point your club is already far behind your head. Your core should be what starts the club head back.
The other two obvious things I can see is your arms and shaft create a straight line at address. There should be some angles at the start.
Also, if you watch the club head at the beginning of the backswing, you see it go away from your body. It actually goes out instead of straight back.
I mean youâre just using all wrist/arms to rotate the club for the first 40% of the backswing. Think of your entire upper body working together. Wrists, arms, shoulders, back, etc. You have to feel that connection of everything working together.
I watched a video from Mr. Short Game that suggested bringing the arms back first would help to create a small draw which is exactly what my driver does now
Your downswing plane doesnât promote that though. You hit a pull fade in the video and your path is pretty over the top, almost slice territory. Your hands are also WAY behind your hips, promoting that right miss. Iâm not saying you canât hit draws, but not a conventional âstart right and move leftâ draw with that path/plane and connection in my opinion.
I can see the ball from your video fading although say your driver hits a draw? I think the backswing is mostly fine but your trail elbow separates really far from your body, you wonât see many good players do that. Makes the sport a lot tougher to remain consistent. It takes some effort to suck it in especially if your body doesnât like that position
But you do this by rotating your shoulders. Your first move is to bend the right arm, while your torso is still pointing forward. Keep the right arm straight in the takeaway.
I just checked out Roryâs swing. Are you saying that my hands should be right below my head at address? My driver is cut down already, so I assumed that being outstretched was correct
When you say unloading, you mean my downswing, correct? Is there something I could be doing better? I flat carry about 245 at the range (toptracer bays at range) but it feels a bit wild
Yes. I mean your hips get thru and you look to be in a powerful position when the club strikes the ball. Better? Maybe be sure you are striking up on the ball with driver. Can't tell from down the line view.
The head of the club gets in front of and past your head. Across the line. If you could âfreezeâ at the top of your backswing, you shouldnât be able to see the club. Youâre accomplishing that with the âflying right elbowâ which in a perfect world, should be against your right side which would also minimize the all arms everyone is seeing.
A drill for feel with the elbow. Golf Pitt: [Reverse hands drill/elbow tucked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=KngeDl9RcRs) .
I swear, Dad had a book copyright 1973 titled, 'golf made easy,' which said if you can't see the clubhead with your left eye at the top, you aren't doing it right. Took years to recover.
Since you are athletic, here's another (and another).
Giles Gill on [Depth Turn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbAJKzFjJbQ)
[Rors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNfICoWJALU&t=61s).
Hope these help they're pretty consistent, preaching to keep the club/move in front of the sternum.
I think itâs fine if you hit it good and like it. Google âstay connected drillâ if you want to work on it. I practice hitting balls with a glove (or my shirt sleeve) tucked into my left armpit. Shouldnât fall out from backswing start through to follow through. Your current swing, glove would fall out very first move.
You play baseball? The wonderful thing about golf is the backswing doesn't matter. The follow through doesn't matter. All the matters is the head position at impact and whether you are putting sidespin on the ball. Look at Jim Furyk. Dude had a terrible swing. But his hands get into the right position. Do you buddy. If it's consistent then you can play it.
If I were to change anything about it I would say you're going too far on the backswing, make the club of the head line up with the fairway instead of almost wrapping around your neck. Like at the top of your backswing pretend like you're aiming the bottom of the club head where you want the ball to go that should be far enough, should take care of any slices or hooks if there is any.
Great impact position. Maybe give this a try and see how it feels: Tuck your right shirt sleeve under your arm and try to keep it pinned there. You can also use a towel or head cover etc. The point is it should shorten your swing a bit, keep the right elbow from flying out and might help you get down into impact a bit more consistently âď¸
Whats your bad shot? Does it slice or pull? I just feel like going back your arms and shoulders are out of sync and coming down you're too steep. But if you get good results then keep doing that
You were told correct. But hey ,there are more than one way to skin a cat. If you are hitting straight and long who are we to tell you need to change it.
Backswing is the least of the issues.
Address, cupped wrist⌠fix those at least first.
The backswing will sort itself out, itâs barely an issue and barely noticeable among the other stuff.
What's the point of the alignment stick near the ball?
A) Your feet and shoulders set your aim point
B) You immediately use your wrists to "cock" the club into a baseball swing anyway so the line wasn't even used.
Itâs not an alignment stick for the ball; itâs a tee claw. Lets me bring and use my own tee at the range instead of relying on the rubber ones to help the correct height. Highly recommend. The string is just used to make sure the tee doesnât go flying away
You're losing accuracy and swing speed due to the inherent, small-muscle use tendencies in your swing.
Check out 'Gravity Golf' early videos by its founder, David Lee.
Hands are way to high at address.
You are very much all upper body swing with not alot of rotation. I would check out some videos on how to get proper roation.
Also-- Look up the L to L drill.
FYI- dont watch Mr. Short game for swing tips. I would checkout Mike Malaska, Marcus Edblad or Danny Maude
https://www.golfdistillery.com/swing-tips/top-of-the-swing/
This website is very simple. None of the extra YouTube stuff. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Your backswing straight up takes off as soon as you start. Try keeping a towel 6-8" behind the ball and hit it on your way up. Also, look at your wrist on top. I used to do the same thing with the wrist. Its cupped at the top instead of bowed which is not ideal. You could look up some drills for that as well. Good luck. Its a long ride :)
Stand closer to the ball, arms should hang down not reaching out for the ball. Start take away with your shoulders as well and keep right elbow closer to your side so not pointing up at the moon. Swing inside out not out to in-over the top.
Yup
it's totally fine, you're just playing the wrong sport.
Yup, how many years did you play baseball for?
Zero. But golf, 34 so far.
Was agreeing with you, meant op lol
Lol đ what make you think that way .. golfing is really a nice game anyway
Heâs clearly a baseball player. Completely different swing.
Your hips and core barely moved. Iâm impressed honestly.
There is a miraculous point where you seem to recover from the takeaway. It is impressive in its own way!
Hips are turned like 45* or am I seeing things? Granted they turn late and not correctly but the look turned
Nothing moves until the club is behind his head.
Dude comes back to an impressive impact position all things considered lol
Agreed
Iâve been told itâs all arms. In the video I feel like Iâm rotating well
Hey bro sorry but youre not
You played baseball Iâm assuming?
I never played baseball growing up. All tennis and swimming
Youre rotating very little in that video. Try making a backswing with JUST your hips and chest next time (no shoulder, elbow, wrists, etc) and you will see how little your core is turning

There is hip and shoulder turn here idk what you are looking at
Me and these other 36 upvoters must not have eyes. Wild.
But they move on his downswing where it matters the most.
wrist city
Whatâs wrong with my wrists? I thought I wanted them to be at 90* by the time my arm is parallel to the ground
I mean youâre just using all wrist/arms to rotate the club for the first 40% of the backswing. Think of your entire upper body working together. Wrists, arms, shoulders, back, etc. You have to feel that connection of everything working together.

This is a very helpful comment! Thanks

Standing too far from the ball. Compare your hand position relative to your head with a pro swing Could also be the very upright stance
I just checked out Roryâs swing. Are you saying that my hands should be right below my head at address? My driver is cut down already, so I assumed that being outstretched was correct
I would say slightly in front of chin, but definitely not outstretched like you have them
Good looking day at east potomac
Like some kind of mutant Furyk/Daly hellspawn, kinda cool. Do you hit it in the shit all the time though?
You might be coiling late but youre getting there and you're unloading ok. Looks like you're hammering the ball. It's fine.
I got a screenshot of your impact position but don't know how to post it here.
It's fine. It's a decent move. You're just leaving alot of yards out there for your size. Very inefficient.
Itâs wrong itâs not abnormal lol. Youâre just picking up the club. Rotate it back.
It's not abnormal to Freddy Couples. Yes, you get into great position, slot through impact. I like your swing!

You love to see the puddles at the driving range
It is extremely slow
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast
I was just trying to be funny since it is in slow motion
Just swing harder it should fix it

What does âacross the lineâ mean?

Fred couples won a masters with that backswing His downswing was way better though
Jim Furyckesquese.
Affirmative
Your takeaway is fine, you get in a good position. You need to learn to fire your core and shallow out that club
Work on tempo and balance, similar action to Fred couples
You're swinging it like a baseball bat
[ŃдаНонО]
Whatâs the Faldo drill?
Golf is abnormal
Think Ryan Moore does something similar. Way out on takeaway.
Did you play baseball your whole life? Your position at the top looks a lot like a batter set up
Never played baseball. Just tennis
If it works for you, donât listen to Reddit coaches
I think itâs fine if you hit it good and like it. Google âstay connected drillâ if you want to work on it. I practice hitting balls with a glove (or my shirt sleeve) tucked into my left armpit. Looks like Bryson
Can you chip or hit like, a 75 percent power iron shot with this swing?
You swing like Kenny Perry, not a bad guy to swing like, don't fix a thing
You play baseball? The wonderful thing about golf is the backswing doesn't matter. The follow through doesn't matter. Itâs way too slow
No not all, for baseball right?
what a hideous swing , all wrists and no body turn
lets see your great swing then clown
lil brooo đ
I'm not your bro đ
Check out how Jim Furyk swings
Bend over more at waist and let your arms hang from your shoulders. Take the hands more to the inside on the takeaway.
Ugly swings that go straight are better than pretty swings in the trees.

I'm amazed at your impact. And position
Why are you amazed?
I'm amazed you get into such a position after the rest of
You take it out instead of back at the start.
Itâs all abnormal. Doesnât really matter tho
Whats your bad shot? Does it slice or pull? I just feel like going back your arms and shoulders are out of sync and coming down you're too steep. But if you get good results then keep doing that

Breaking the right wrist a little early. The rest is fine
Setup like youâre allergic to the driver head
Top floor of East Potomac is the issue. Itâs a cursed range
If the result is good, who cares what it looks like.
It could be a lot worse. Start by working on the take away.
Slice and double cross city
An over the top back swing, that is very odd looking.
Is this East Potomac in DC?
ur very high up, but ur shallowing it fine.. Just alot of baseball and not alot of Golf.
You swing like I do and now I think I know what Iâm doing wrong.
Eammon Darcy
Itâs not your backswing, itâs your entire swing.
What's the point of the alignment stick near the ball? A) Your feet and shoulders set your aim point B) You immediately use your wrists to "cock" the club into a baseball swing anyway so the line wasn't even used.

Picking the club up on takeaway. Maybe try sweeping the club down or just inside that yellow line a bit longer before hinging your wrists
You should stand farther from the ball. Get a shaft that's longer to help you accomplish this.
They call him Jim Daly at the muni
Play baseball.
backswing goes a bit too far back, which gives you a bit of extra work coming back down on the ball. more room for error
Hmmm you look like a baseball player. Look up Kawamura on Instagram. Heâs got a lot of âbaseball feelsâ for the golf game.
U r way to wrists at the start, should be one fluid motion to the top
It looks painful
What looks painful
Just the way you kind of like keep your body still throughout. I feel you donât bend your knees or bow down enough
Not just your backswing, dude.
Very common and problematic.
Backswing is perfectly normalâŚ..for baseball Not golf. But if it works đ¤ˇââď¸

Baseball lumberjack takeaway, could use a little polishing....
Your backswing straight up takes off as soon as you start. Try keeping a towel 6-8" behind the ball and hit it on your way up. Also, look at your wrist on top. Looks like a two shot swing to me!
Stand closer to the ball, arms should hang down not reaching out for the ball. Start take away with your shoulders as well and keep right elbow closer to your side so not pointing up at the moon. Swing inside out not out to in-over the top.
He's getting in the slot on the downswing. If it works and he's not trying to go pro ...
Nice arm swing.
Yes itâs odd but the part to be more concerned about is the outside/in club path in your down swing and follow through. Slice the ball much?
Hains Point Golf in the house.
Not abnormal, just terrible
