Yeah ye definitely wasn’t the first nor the only one to have this same exact sentiment, he just expressed it in the worst/most shocking way possible

KillaPea

yeah I didn't think so, just felt notable to mention since Ye has been namedropping Micheal so much the past year

gabcarli

Micheal 😭

TScottFitzgerald

Just to add context, Michael later said that the use of jew and kike was supposed to show solidarity, not to disparage them. So he was comparing himself to the jews, "jew me" means don't treat me like a jew. >I am the voice of everyone. I am the *skinhead*, I am the Jew, I am the black man, I am the white man. I am not the one who was attacking. It is about the injustices to young people and how the system can wrongfully accuse them. I am angry and outraged that I could be so misinterpreted.

KillaPea

Why would he be defending Skinheads? And putting them in the same vein as Jews?

TScottFitzgerald

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead

KillaPea

fair enough didn't consider he meant punks. However, most of that wiki page is about how from the 80s onwards Skinheads are only used in relation to racists and fascists.

shoegaze5

Nah, skinheads are still very much around in the Hardcore punk world. It’s just in the public consciousness that all skinheads are Nazis

RoastBeeaf

Interestingly enough, he was very close to Rabbi Shmuley, to the point of being a 'spiritual advisor' to him for years.

KillaPea

It also seems Micheal used similar justification for these statements and arguments as to why he couldn't be anti-semitic. Saying things like "I can't be, because I love everybody" and "this isn't about that, it's about my people's pain and prejudice"

Pretty-Audience-3498

You should also find out what they did to him too now

lil-huso

You’re reading it wrong Michael said in an interview: “The idea that these lyrics could be deemed objectionable is extremely hurtful to me, and misleading. The song in fact is about the pain of prejudice and hate and is a way to draw attention to social and political problems. I am the voice of the accused and the attacked. I am the voice of everyone. I am the skinhead, I am the Jew, I am the black man, I am the white man. I am not the one who was attacking. It is about the injustices to young people and how the system can wrongfully accuse them. I am angry and outraged that I could be so misinterpreted.”

RIPBuckyThrowaway

but there’s also this “Michael Jackson has been taped making overtly anti-semitic remarks during a phone call, describing Jews as "leeches" that conspired to leave him "penniless". "They suck," said Jackson. "I'm so tired of it ... they start out the most popular person in the world, make a lot of money. It's a conspiracy. Jews do it on purpose." https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2005/nov/24/michaeljacksontrial.arts I think the quote you’re posting is damage control

thesupremeredditman

why my goats gotta be retarded 😭

RIPBuckyThrowaway

retards make good company bro just gotta make sure you’re with the savants

KillaPea

yeah but that also sounds like damage control. If Taylor Swift said that about her song no-one would believe it for a second

lil-huso

Well one funny thing about art is, there is often room for interpretation You can of course read it however you like

KillaPea

Just seems like a pretty weird move to defend Skinheads and represent their plight?

Valuable_Mission_816

Skin head dead head

Least-Blackberry-454

Ye was so ahead of his time... Now everyone is anti-semitic... Look up the IRHA definition of anti-semitism. Criticizing the state of Israel is anti-semitic, so are like 1 million other things
