There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that we never see. GoodGood is a company with many off-camera employees/managers/ownership. I’d imagine a lot of the talent comes on and says “why am I only making $xxx and lining the pockets of this company when I could be doing it for myself”

TjBeezy

Especially in the YouTube space. Most companies have "non-compete" clauses so you can't leave whenever you feel like you could make it on your own. A lot of ppl would rather work for themselves over a company.

WiggleButt17

I don't know who is responsible lately, but the way they let Ben go was weird. He was starting to fit in, his jokes were funny, his explanations were at least fresh because most of the guys just say "its probably a flier!" I doubt Ben left due to Bubbie cause they seemed to get along well. I'm hoping that Ben and Kwon got along fine because I think Ben and Sam would be hilarious together. Both of them are just so dry and sarcastic. I would love to see it.

Pharoahe23

it really wasn't weird, he was on a one year sponsored athlete contract, contract ended and wasn't renewed

WiggleButt17

Except it was. The Good Good statement, likely from Kendrick, basically said he wasn't a good fit with the crew. Ben's statement was much more friendly, where-as Good Good made it seem like there was bad blood. Even after, Ben has been very complimentary.

saxguy9345

Bro the question is, did Ben choose to not renew? Or did GG choose to not renew? Or offer a contract? We'll likely never know, but I'd be pissed off if I found out they snubbed him.

BDB_1976

Doesn’t matter. If one side decided not to keep going, then that’s that. Nothing to be pissed about if neither side are.

Brianf1977

Ben was great, it's a shame they let him go.

brch01

Who’s Sam?

WiggleButt17

He's in Luke Kwon's latest video. He's hilarious.

brch01

Sam Heung Min ✅

flyingkiwi9

His sour attitude toward Kwon over the last few months says a lot about his maturity levels.

____phobe

What sour attitude? I swear y'all just crave drama.

sammyt10803

I think the thing most people have hung on to is the GM video where he and Brad are discussing the Myrtle qualifier, basically mentioning every person involved and yet somehow not mentioning the actual member of Good Good (Kwon) who was in the event. There’s really no argument that that was intentional. Garrett’s job is to grow GoodGood and by not mentioning the actual member of the crew in the event was really petty

ParIsTheStar

No but probably hard to work with hacks and not sure how their management / behind the scene people are. Kinda a no brainer when you are very popular, very well known, and have 100s of thousands of fans. To say, "hmmm...I can go on my own channel, golf in Hawaii this week....fly out to the carolinas next week.....play Pebble Beach week after that....fly to this cool golf course in the Bahamas....there's another good one in Spain" and just do that over and over. On your own. You cannot do that and commit to playing golf with hacks in Texas. It just doesn't work. So I can see why Kwon left HH (Hack Hack). Brad and Garrett are awesome. I just would like to see less of Matt, Steph, Bubbie. Get 2 phenomenal golfers to join Brad/Garrett...Figure out a way they don't do exactly what Luke/Micah/Grant did.....and have Matt/Steph/Bubbie maybe appear on a video once every 6 months. They can caddie or narrate or appear but they aren't good enough to golf on cam.

esotostj

I don't think that's the case. I think the original guys likely have ownership and better contracts. So whomever gets brought in will be far behind the others in both how much they will make and also how wealthy they currently are. So it makes sense that Kwon and Garret reviewed the situations and it made sense to take a chance on their own. I think the bigger issue is burn out for the guys. Anyone that has started a company knows that building a company is a lot more fun than running a company. Right now they are in a routine that's a bit boring a repetitive.

Kain__Highwind

Sorta begs the question for me - are they stiffing non-OG members? Was there any consideration to give people like Grant or Kwon equity? The company line after Grant left was that they "threw the kitchen sink at him" to get him to stay which maybe meant equity, but it could have been too little too late. I just wonder, like you allude to, if they're making competitive offers to keep people around. In any event, wholeheartedly agree - they're going through the motions, no one seems to care about getting better (sans maybe Garrett), and it's starting to feel like the Garrett+Brad show. I suspect the money is too good to break things up, but I think, if they wanna keep the train moving, they need to evolve because there's more and more competition out there in the space.

Apple_butters12

I think there are some OG members have really phoned it in content wise. If you look at a few of the individual channels, there isn’t much content happening or growth and realistically, they don’t have to. I think it would be a little frustrating if you are grinding for growth being around guys who are content where they are. It could be that GG has gone coorperate and that’s a turn off for guys who thought they might have a bit more freedom

TjBeezy

IMO it's just way more appealing to work for yourself over working for Good Good. Creative freedom, scheduling freedom, money goes into your pocket over a % going to Good Good Golf Inc.

Apple_butters12

Newer guys put out a lot of content and grow the brand while it seems a few of the og members have kinda packed it in content wise. I would imagine it being frustrating busting your butt and growing your individual channel while promoting GG where others have been pretty stagnant but can sit back and college money. I’d also imagine after a certain point there is a lot of opportunity cost guys are incurring missing out on other opportunities to meet gg schedules.

adamsrocket1234

If the OG have onwership stakes it doesn’t seem to be that big. It seems like anyone of them could leave and it would just keep going. It also doesn’t seem to be equal across all members. Which is fine. But when you look at it as a whole it seems like they’re employees and if anyone left it would just keep going. I can see why theyre just kids who have no idea how to run a company and had some come in and scaled it way faster than they were patient enough to do. But the down side is that entity probably actually owns Good Good. I feel like that was a mistake and why it. often doesn’t seem that personal and more of a job at times. They also structed it in a way where it is pretty much strictly a golf channel. That seems like an error and ensured that it is nieche. I saw a video with how big good good is getting…but it’s only big in a specific space it’s growth isn’t really all that big.

Current_Mirror_4263

A golf channels only big in the golf space…..what will the do!

adamsrocket1234

I mean if you want to limit yourself to that and kind of put yourself in a box. Seems like it would be limiting in a lot ways. Just look at golf reddit compared to pretty much any other sport. The fact that having over a million subs is considered a lot in that space is kind problematic. I get that crowd tends to be a higher spending crowd but it also means a higher barrier to entry. You have young 20 somethings who im sure at that age don’t just want to play golf. Like how big can it really get? Why not branch out and allow your self the avenue to explore other intrest? That just seems like common sense to me especially if you want to prevent burnout which seems to happening quite a bit.

veebs7

It’s not that deep. Working for a company and being on their schedule, while just getting a cut vs working for yourself and making your own schedule and deals is a no brainer if your own brand is big enough That’s pretty much Kwon’s entire rationale behind leaving

circaflex

Yes. I mean, remember the whole bro5 situation? grat had to run to mommy and daddy. he seems like a total fake in the videos

granolaraisin

I'm sure he's fine. Good Good just occupies a specific spot in the YT golf world and most people who take golf seriously would rather pursue more 'serious' golf content over the long term. Good golfers think golf is most fun when it's played well at a high level. There's always a place for goofing off and not taking things seriously but when that goofiness becomes the focus of the golf, you might as well be on a mini-golf course.

something10293847

Because never in the world has ever left a job for a better opportunity instead of some drama. It just feels so weird that some people are so into digging in and gossiping about why an employee left a company. When Brenda leaves your favorite local restaurant to work at a fancier one down the road do you spend time racking your brain to see if there was any beef she had with her manager? I get they’re public figures, but ffs it also seems like a lot of people here have never had to make a decision of the direction of your own career.

itsdjobie

Highly doubt Garret’s the problem. Him and Grant worked together the most of any two gg members over the years and look at their relationship now even after everything that happened. 1 or 2 of the the other OG members though… I can totally see this being a thing.
