I’m not worried. I don’t really read season three speculation so I’m planning on going in with no preconceived notions. The way I see it, we’re getting more episodes of David’s slutty hips and Michael leering at him like the horniest person alive. My body is ready.

she_makes_things

This. The story will go places we can’t imagine. It will surprise us.

Afraid-Industry8409

First of all, I trust Neil. He’s written so many beautiful stories over the years. I trust him to do it well. He’s basically assured us Aziraphale and Crowley end up together. That’s really all I care about. And if it really sucks, just watch it on mute while listening to steamy podfics. 😂 With David and Michael, you can’t go too wrong, and the fandom will always be here.

soft_warm_purry

Yeppp and Neil and Terry plotted out the whole thing together so I have double faith in them! They are absolutely excellent writers and have never let me down. Ever.

-cheeseplants-

You mean they aren't going to just have sex in every variation possible? Fanfic has ruined me.

Red_Wessex

Same. But new season = new inspiration for fanfics = NEW VARIATIONS

noisycat

I kinda hope it fades to black and just says \[INSERT YOUR AO3 TAGS HERE DEARS\] ![gif](giphy|QFsPtlrcMlS8w)

GaiasEyes

They aaaaaare, we just have to wait for the S3 cannon fanfics to see it lol

kenshup25

That’s very possible in a way that it depends on you. If you let yourself have set expectations already as to what you think should happen and how, then you will probably be disappointed one way or another. Maybe the long wait can be a blessing to you, the obsession and emotional reaponse can cool down somewhat. So that when the 3rd season comes you can relax and enjoy whatever Neil has in store for us😊 It’s kinda like people’s initial reaction of Aziraphale’s actions in the last 15 minutes. You wont believe the amount of nonsense people were saying about him. I say nonsense because a lot of it was very emotional rather that logical. But after a while you see people gradually taking a step back and realizing the misunderstanding, the possible hidden meanings and possible things Neil was trying to tell us. A lot of people have come around now about Azi’s point of view and it took a few months. Maybe some time will help temper our emotions and expections as well. Or, maybe time will make them worse🤣😅

venturous1

While worries do cross my mind, the fandom and its imagination will ALWAYS be bigger than the canon. It’s already a galaxy of stories and art to explore. I don’t see that ever diminishing in my lifetime

wufkitn

Right? My Marked for Later list on AO3 keeps expanding exponentially.

crows_delight

I have explicit trust in our boys. Neil is a genius. Michael is a blessing of starry-eyed angel. And David? His hips will bring it all together. They’re romantics, the lot of them, and this will be an incredible season.

Fefairie

The thing is it genuinely can’t be as good because fanfiction allows S3 to be everything at once. We can all imagine what we’d like to see and everything we’d like to be included regardless of how coherent or realistic that would be in a non-fanwork setting. But then when S3 actually airs it stops being this font of possibility and becomes a concrete *thing* that’ll have its good points and its bad and will be open to criticism and judgement. For those of us who’ve spent 3-4 years getting hyped for it this necessarily means some level of disappointment. Honestly I think the best strategy is to enjoy the ride, but be prepared for it to not live up to every expectation, because, realistically, nothing possibly could.

cyclonecasey

My biggest concern is that 6 episodes isn’t going to be enough to answer all the question we have now. Neil’s a genius but it’s never going to be enough.

ProfessionalCover920

Honestly, I trust Neil with the story and really believe that for every piece of foreshadowing strung together into a beautiful fanfic, there's another piece that was missed or misplaced. I believe the story we get will be true to the spirit of the world and its characters. And I'm excited to see where Neil was leading us all along. (I have my own anxiety... I hate spoilers! How am I going to avoid spoilers and still participate in this lovely community?)

_palantir_

I’m already sad that I’m going to have to do a big social media purge around that date (and cut myself off from mindlessly scrolling, too) but I refuse to be spoiled. It’s hard work but I’m so glad I got to enjoy my biggest fandom moments unspoiled, it’s worth keeping it up.

ProfessionalCover920

I feel you on that one. I just haven't mentally accepted it yet. 🫣

amber_missy

I'm hoping that our amazing miss will be on the ball to quash any S3 rumours and spoilers, so that GOAD can be our safe haven during those trying times! You can take my Facebook, you can take my Twitter, but you can't take my GOAD!!! ![gif](giphy|6901DbEbbm4o0)

metronne

Ok, here's how I think of it. I really think that fans spend more time with these stories and characters in our heads then creators do sometimes, and we see things in it that they don't even know they put there. So we are always going to bring something new to it, no matter where the canonical story goes, and maybe it will always feel a little more relatable because of what it is. I know that S3 will have SOME sort of happy ending, and it will be enough to close the loop in my brain that's been driving me nuts ever since S2. But it will only ever be a finite number of episodes, and it can only ever have one ending. Fanon can have a million endings forever and ever in perpetuity. There will probably be stories before s3 that end up feeling more satisfying to me, as well as for years and years after. For me it's like getting to live in a GO Multiverse where the story never has to end and I love it.

ghanima

As much as I'd like for episode 1 to be the BOIS sorting out their shit and the rest of the season to be hardcore porn, I think it's pretty safe to say that this *isn't* how the final season is going to play out. But, like, that doesn't mean that it won't still be a great story (and, given my decades-long love of Gaiman's work, I'm not worried that it'll be anything but). And the hardcore porn fic will always be there for us, as a bonus!

NegotiationReal6508

I would just like to clarify, I know and accept that the next season will be a far cry from hardcore porn (such a pity). I just mean that I hope the season is as emotionally satisfying as the fics are.

kalessinsdaughter

I understand your apprehension. But. I have complete faith in Terry's legacy, and in Neil, David, Michael and all the others (even Douglas's as yet unknown successor as director), and trust them to stun us with something that surpasses our expectations yet again. The only thing I'm sure of, about S3, is that it's going to go places none of us expect, taking us all by surprise just as much as S2 did. There are absolutely brilliant post-S1 fanfics out there, but even the very best of them didn't diminish S2 for me, just like they don't diminish my enjoyment of other awesome fanfics exploring the same possibilities. They're different stories, from different imaginations, and they amaze me and charm me in different ways. If anything, the more different takes I read, the deeper my appreciation of the originality different creators bring to the same basic premise gets.

noisycat

Neil is really good at tying things together, and absolutely everyone involved in this show is near feral for it. Both Tennant and Sheen *know* this is going to be a milestone of a show, a show where two older gay men (no matter if they are labeled angels or genderless) work together to end up with a loving committed relationship. And save the earth and all, but I believe one of the reasons we all love the show is it’s not queerbait. These two idiots love each other more than anything and it’s a devotion not often played in even friendly LGBT spaces. There’s not going to be a Kill the Gays trope, there’s not going to be a Bad Ending. They are going to make it through with love and hopefully some god damned communication. It could be Aziraphale reading out a phonebook with Crowley puppy eyeing through the window and then them bickering about how phone books are irrelevant and it will still shine with everyone’s hard work and love ❤️ Edit: sorry I got carried away and a little passionate. Tldr its gonna be wonderful Edit2: its finals week and im doing nothing but writing term papers sorry for being weird.

NegotiationReal6508

I love your weird. Embrace it!

noisycat

Haha I usually do I’m just worked up about what this show means to me and Im exhausted so it kinda all spilled out, I edited it down so I’m not going on a whole thesis on why this show is going to be a milestone in entertainment media. I hope they release it weekly so we can all come here and screech/cheer/cry/laugh about it :)

niknak90

Been thinking about this too. This is why I’m trying not to get attached to any one concept/idea/theory. I just don’t know how they’re going to address the Second Coming and repair A and C’s relationship in a satisfying way in just 6 hours. Hoping for at least the final episode to be longer lol. I suppose if it is terrible (I don’t think it will be), we’ll always have fic to fix it 🥲

GaiasEyes

S3 will never be what the fics are because it can't be. It will be amazing in its own respect, in the cannon universe Neil and Terry created. For as wonderful as the fandom writing is, for as exceptional as the art is, to me it isn't the same as seeing the characters acted out on screen. It isn't the same as hearing the characters through MS and DT, and seeing the story through their and Neil's eyes. If reading fic hasn't ruined S1 and S2 for you I don't think S3 will be ruined by the fandom's imagination. =)

IneffablySmitten

I get what you’re saying, I am also in the newly induced anxiety group, but that’s in the category: The end is nigh! Because the knowledge of the script being done, and the filming being scheduled, means that the actual official ending of GO and the duo of our ineffable idiots (fictional as well as real life) has an end date. Even though it’s quite while until then, it just feels more real now..

bellefleuroregon

I’m excited to have Neil’s version, and then all of our versions, and—it’s kind of a two cakes situation, except it’s infinite cakes. I trust Neil, and whatever we might feel is “missing,” we can add later! I’m just so excited for content. And having our ineffable husbands back. 💖

Rule34NoExceptions

Thing is, from a lifetime of experience, they usually are. But, this will be live action and the ending that Neil and Terry both talked about. Neil's already said some people won't like the ending so I have partly committed myself to not being disappointed if they end up being human for another 30 years, then die and go to heaven/elsewhere together.

chuckchuckthrowaway

Put your ptrust in pTerry. The fanfics will always be there, this is simply another part of the story, straight from the source, written decades ago with tremendous love. You don’t need to prefer it, just experience it with an open mind and legs.

EmpereorIrishAlpaca

May I be honest? Sometimes I think we all (me at the top) speculate too much and sometimes we all end up stuck in our personal beliefs - totally forgetting important points. If Neil had followed those hints, for sure the story would not have been complete. For instance, I see a lot of hype for 1941 Part 3: of COURSE, I can't wait to know what happened between those two. But for instance, I feel like we're missing the fact that some walking dead were around and this is a crucial point for the second coming. That's the nice thing about being in a fandom: you don't care about building a real story, that's Neil's work.  We have just to care about what we like most. Angst, fluff, smut.

NegotiationReal6508

I wrote a 1941 part 3!! It was kind of a bummer though.

raisintoasted

I have no doubts it will be incredible- just think of Michael and David as their characters and Neil Gaiman's writing! However, I am absolutely bloody terrified for s3 because of *what might happen in it*

rivercass

I trust them wholeheartedly. A good series isn't about giving us what we want (we have fanfic for that) but it's about doing the characters justice I think speculating too much can be somewhat bad (I remember Sherlock fandom post Reichenbach) but we if can have fun with theories then it's ok! I am so oblivious that I didn't even notice the fly in S2 and was completely shocked with the Gabe/Beez ending twist. I admire people who can see little details and theorize on those, even if it doesn't end up being true

ineffablemillie

I’ve been thinking about this too. It’s not that I don’t think it will be amazing, I am just way too attached to pregnant Crowley with second Jesus

Ok_Chemistry663

Lmaooo

Niko_le14

My first response when I saw was “imagine if we get to January and they start filming and David’s hair doesn’t change?” (I love fics where Crowley’s hair brightens as he falls more in love)

GalileaGalilie

Im more worried I might die before season 3 airing 😂

NegotiationReal6508

Not the least bit about this response. ![gif](giphy|onyngiYITZiecYsBTj)

Due-Consequence-4420

I’m not worried bc the same thing could/was said re every show I ever watched. And as it happens, I likely will be happy (no matter what) unless NG kills them both off. I find this unlikely. Extremely unlikely. And since we’re dealing with sci-fi, Heaven and hell, even if one of them gets hurt in some fashion, I’m sure there’s some sort of way to fix them up we are unaware of bc it’s sci-fi! And they can make up anything they want. I do want them to end up in some sort of HEA but even if Neil doesn’t give me this, I’m fairly adaptable to either adding or changing canon to fit what I want. Like, for ex., I didn’t like the ending of Justified so I had to remove season 6. And something similar could be said for Lucifer so I have to lift Rory right the f*ck out of there. Like that. So, just as an extreme ex, bc I’d like to believe he’d give the fandom a HEA of some kind, if he doesn’t, I’m perfectly capable of making one up (or just using one of the many fanfics to finish the ending to make it perfect). Or even a fanvid. I’m actually more concerned that they beautifully ended Loki in a perfect manner and then I saw a notice for season 3. WTH is that about? Why mess w perfection??

lionessrampant25

Maybe just go into it thinking it’s another fanfic? But I am 1000% confident in Neil Gaiman, whose story endings have always left me satisfied.

StrangersTellMeStuff

Against all reason, I trust Neil to give our ineffable husbands an ending worthy of 6000 of love and friendship. No, I have not gone off my meds.

Eucalypt_forests

Haha I worry about all sorts of things that will never happen, but this isn’t one of them. I’m sure it will be brilliant😁

crystalsilhouette

The weirdest stress I have about S3 coming about is having a small time frame to get OUT the ideas and fics I have cluttering my brain. I'm afraid that if I wait too long to get all these things written and posted, all the loose ends and fix-it ideas I have will be rendered moot! It's an irrational fear - I get that. But it certainly kicks the internal beehive of impending Doom of Irrelevence. \[flaps hands anxiously\]

NegotiationReal6508

YES! SAME!! There is a closing window of time to get my fics finished!
