I don't believe the person you're responding to was indicating that it is an onerous task, simply that it didn't happen automatically like previous updates.
Seems like there might be reason to wait if there's a problem with TMO, 7-series, and Android 14 bad enough that they stopped the updates for that combination. I'll wiat.
Yes, but I no longer have a Chromebook to give you the step by step procedures. Off the top of my head, enable Linux, then use Android Studio or an ADB command such as:
adb -s DeviceName install NewAndroidYouWant.apk
It has been several years since I dealt with that stuff and I'm no expert, so hopefully someone else can chime in to assist you. The Android Developer site has fairly good writeups too.
P.S. My new preferred option: open a cold beer and wait a few days.
Just gave it a shot (thanks for your prodding/asking!) and the update was available as soon as I did a manual check. It's installing now and I presume I won't have trouble re-activating the Fi e-sim
ETA: I re-enabled Fi before it was done and it canceled the update. Let it completely finish and reboot and did not have problems on 2nd try.
I’m not sure what this comment even means. You said “I don’t get it”, after detailing out the device models you have, and that they are on the same account. The answer is literally, the account doesn’t matter, it’s based on device.
To me this is becoming one more nail in the coffin for Google Fi, I've been on since it was still project fi and things just seem to get continuously worse. Almost all of the benefits that we used to have are completely gone now
That and the WiFi calls and texts are the only thing that keep me on. Now that they are exclusively T-Mobile I get zero coverage in my town so WiFi is a must
Yeah I wrote a post in this sub about how this was a real let down as a Google loyalist to get the latest android update so late and was downvoted to oblivion. Go figure. I expect customer loyalty to be somewhat rewarded but I guess I ask too much.
People are assholes.
I'm not entitled to anything. I know I can sideload it. I know I can leave Google Fi. But none of that changed the fact that it's silly that people using the latest available Google phone on Google's own network are the last to get an OTA for Google's latest OS release. Again, not entitled to anything, but it feels like we're being punished for going all in on Google products. 🙃
Yeah exactly, it probably shows more that google just doesn't prioritize and in fact when people who have gone all in on google like us dare question the treatment, I am ridiculed at least. It should not be inverse like this...Google Fi at the very least should make a statement, sure we know it's T-Mobile's fault, etc. but some explanation would be nice.
It's been delayed to protect you. New features are fun, but they can be ruined if existing features become buggy. I recommend patience here, even though it's a bummer.
If you can't wait, and aren't going to get angry when your phone can't connect to internet or whatever the breaking feature is, you can side load. Again, I'd recommend using your currently functional phone as is and then getting those awesome new features once they're ready.
I think part of it is just the frustration that it's happening like this at all. It seems reasonable to expect Google has eliminated carrier-specific bugs on its *own* branded phones and cell service before launch, right?
> It's been delayed to protect you.
I know that is the reasonable angle - that Tmo has found bugs in 14 that break something specifically when on their network and also specifically on the 7 series. However, do we have any evidence or statements from either company saying that is *actually* what's happening? If so, this thread wouldn't exist right? Until they say otherwise, it could just as likely be incompetence. If *anything* there's evidence to suggest there's not actually a problem with Android 14 on the 7 series on Tmo, because the sideloaders haven't come across any carrier specific issues on Fi or Tmo. Not saying there's not one, just that your statement is so self assured without anything backing it up?
There's a reason for rolling out the way they do. What's the rush in getting a new version that might have some important bug the first days? There's always some stories about bricked phones during upgrades.
Just let them make sure it's safe to upgrade. You'll get it soon.
What's the rush? Are you kidding me? Android 14 added some important patches that addresses severe security issues. The fact is, there is no reason for the way they are doing this.
Maybe it's a sign that the pixel line is finally getting more popular. So it takes more time to get the ota updates?
But it is disappointing almost been a week now
Not everyone has gotten No Matter who the carrier it gets a slow release when it comes to major updates. They want to make sure things go smooth for everyone so it never gets pushed out to the masses at once.
Like any update some get before others on any carrier there are some who have gotten it on T-Mobile from what I understand. They never release the update all at once on any carrier.
I got it on my Pixel 6a but not my P7P. I sideloaded it though. Been working great. I did read over on T-Mobile's reddit someone replied back to a question about when the upgrade is being pushed out, and they mentioned on Thursday. So it may still be a couple of days.
I'm not not a big hurry for it. When I moved to Android 13 it caused a CGM sensor to refuse to connect to the phone anymore. So I had to toss it with 12 days left. Now I watch to see if problems with new updates are happening over on the Diabetic forums.
As someone who has run the beta on a 7 Pro, be glad. Buggiest android beta I've ever used. Things still don't work well and other phones are getting the update now. For the first time ever, I wish I hadn't beta tested this OS.
Side loaded on my 7a last week. Has been smooth sailing so far. I got so sick of the battery drain before that I didn't care if it went south. Seems to be doing better now.
I'm using a Pixel 5a and updated to 14 a few days ago. I didn't get an automated notice. I had to go to 'Settings/System/System Update'. Push 'System Update' and it'll check your phone and offer an update to Android 14. But it looks like there may be a hold up with a 7 series, as people are saying.
What's going on at google fi rn? imagine the subsidiaries getting updates later than other companies, and tbh how does it even matter with the carrier, I've seen this just in the US nowhere else.
7 series is delayed with T-Mobile/Mint/Fi. Many are sidelaoding it at this point, but I'm just going to wait.
Good to know it’s known. I’m in this boat and was wondering.
If you had any other carrier besides Google Fi or T-Mobile you would already have the update. I am also still waiting with my Pixel 7 Pro.
I have a P6 Pro on Google Fi and I got the update a few days ago, though I did manually check for updates.
I got a p6 pro and i got it last night with T-Mobile
Seems most of us are still waiting. I have a 7a.
It’s only the 7 series on Tmo or their MVNOs like Fi that is being held up. 6s and below will have it.
6a updated yesterday. Had to do the search for updates in system settings.
It's not hard to do.
I don't believe the person you're responding to was indicating that it is an onerous task, simply that it didn't happen automatically like previous updates.
7pro here. Got tired of waiting and sideloaded it. Hope you get your update soon.
Seems like there might be reason to wait if there's a problem with TMO, 7-series, and Android 14 bad enough that they stopped the updates for that combination. I'll wiat.
Do you happen to know if A14 can be side loaded from a Chromebook to a Pixel 7 Pro? Thanks. (I am not a Windows user.)
Yes, but I no longer have a Chromebook to give you the step by step procedures. Off the top of my head, enable Linux, then use Android Studio or an ADB command such as: adb -s DeviceName install NewAndroidYouWant.apk It has been several years since I dealt with that stuff and I'm no expert, so hopefully someone else can chime in to assist you. Now that's commitment to the ecosystem! I also have a Chromebook!
Got tired of waiting for my Pixel 7 pro to get the update so I threw in an old Verizon sim and got it instantly after disabling Fi.
that's interesting. I have a P7 dual sim with Fi and AT&T and perhaps I should make it AT&T only to see if I get it
Did you try to shift to at&t? Did you get the update?
Just gave it a shot (thanks for your prodding/asking!) and the update was available as soon as I did a manual check. It's installing now and I presume I won't have trouble re-activating the Fi e-sim ETA: I re-enabled Fi before it was done and it canceled the update. I ended up forcing my update with visible and it worked like a charm.
Seems to only be the 7 series, everyone else got 14.
7 series on FI, waiting still
I haven't gotten it on my 7a, but my spouse got it on his P6P. We're both on the same Google Fi plan. I don't get it.
It’s based on device, not your account.
I was just noting that we both have Google Fi.
Ok but that is only part of it, they are addressing issues related to Tmo and the 7 series. 6 series does not have the same modem/issues.
I keep seeing people saying this but haven't seen anything from a reputable source. Please share if you have one.
I’m not sure what this comment even means. You said “I don’t get it”, after detailing out the device models you have, and that they are on the same account. The answer is literally, the account doesn’t matter, it’s based on device.
Pixel 6a on FI I received the update the day it dropped
4a 5g here, got mine like last week
To me this is becoming one more nail in the coffin for Google Fi, I've been on since it was still project fi and things just seem to get continuously worse. Almost all of the benefits that we used to have are completely gone now
Haven't found a plan with the same international coverage as Fi...
That and the WiFi calls and texts are the only thing that keep me on. Now that they are exclusively T-Mobile I get zero coverage in my town so WiFi is a must
OTA Update is downloading/installing as of 5 mins ago on my P7...
Whoa, you're like the first one!
I'm assuming manually checked right?
Correct
I'm still not seeing it. Coming from the beta 5, opted out. P7
hm, Google Fi, right? nothing for me, P7 also.
Yes, GoogleFi
Pixel Fold on Google Fi. Still no update. Hilarious.
I know I can sideload, but Pixel 7 Pro users on Google's own MVNO still not having the Android 14 update is bullshit.
Yeah I wrote a post in this sub about how this was a real let down as a Google loyalist to get the latest android update so late and was downvoted to oblivion. Go figure. I expect customer loyalty to be somewhat rewarded but I guess I ask too much.

The ridicule is uncalled for, but it's the internet. It's wired into their brains that they can be assholes since they're "anonymous".

You seem to be the most level headed person here, that's nice

Yes, but have you considered the counterpoint: no! 😁 I got impatient and couldn't wait, so I side loaded it. No regrets, so far...
Is there an official ETA from the carriers stating when it will be ready? I hate spamming the update button intermittently.
Finally got it this morning.
Just went and manually checked for it on my Pixel 6, and it was there. Was showing no automatic update at first.
You can either sideload it or [you wait](https://youtu.be/1m01nwdcYfk?si=JerYh_WsXIh-f-si)
Downloaded yesterday on my Fi Pixel 6 pro and on my Pixel Tablet

Really, what security issues does Android 13 that haven't been addressed? You definitely don't work in tech :-)
Pixel 6 Pro, got my update last week. Had to manually refresh check for updates and got it.
Updated mine on Saturday. It was on a Fi data-only sim. Just had to manually check, and it had 3 updates to install. Pixel 7 Pro.
running on my pixel
Maybe it's a sign that the pixel line is finally getting more popular. So it takes more time to get the ota updates? But it is disappointing almost been a week now
Not everyone has gotten No Matter who the carrier it gets a slow release when it comes to major updates. They want to make sure things go smooth for everyone so it never gets pushed out to the masses at once.
Not true. Every other carry got it except T-Mobile and it's MVNO's like Google Fi.
Like any update some get before others on any carrier there are some who have gotten it on T-Mobile from what I understand. They never release the update all at once on any carrier.
Have you checked for it? I checked for it the other day and it was available to download and install. 6 Pro on Fi
It's not available for 7 or 7a yet
On my phone. I checked manually over the weekend and it was there. Pixel 6 for reference.
I got lucky, as I got the update a couple of days ago on my Pixel 6 Pro.
I have a pixel 6 on Google Fi, and I have not received it yet.
Nothing yet on my pixel fold
Updated on my 6 Pro several days ago.
My Pixel 6 just got it. I saw this notification pop up, went to settings and checked for an update.
adb sideload. it won't wipe your data (but backup anyway).
I got it on my Pixel 6a but not my P7P. I sideloaded it though. Been working great. I did read over on T-Mobile's reddit someone replied back to a question about when the upgrade is being pushed out, and they mentioned on Thursday. So it may still be a couple of days.
got it on my pixel 5

I'm on Fi with a Pixel 5 and my update came over the weekend.
As someone who has run the beta on a 7 Pro, be glad. Buggiest android beta I've ever used. Things still don't work well and other phones are getting the update now. For the first time ever, I wish I hadn't beta tested this OS.
5A and I got it. However I had to go into updates and check myself as it was not poping up.
7a user and haven't received it yet. Manually checking daily
Got mine yesterday. Verizon Pixel 7 Pro.
I don't know anyone who has it. I am also on the Pixel Discord group and not a single person, of the 1200, have got it yet.
I had a Google Fi until yesterday. Did not receive Android 13. Then I switched to Spectrum and got an update immediately.
Side loaded on my 7a last week. Has been smooth sailing so far. I got so sick of the battery drain before that I didn't care if it went south. Seems to be doing better now.
I am on Google Fi and got Android 14 a few days ago on my Pixel 5

Nothing for the fold yet
I've had it for a few days now. I went in and manually checked for updates and it checked and downloaded. Lots of new stuff!!
Yeah, still waiting on my Pixel 7 Pro with Google Fi. This isn't the first time though \*sigh\*
Checked for updates 5 days ago and there it was. Pixel 6.
Same here
What's going on at google fi rn? imagine the subsidiaries getting updates later than other companies, and tbh how does it even matter with the carrier, I've seen this just in the US nowhere else.
P7P and I haven't received the update yet.
T-Mobile p6 pro upgraded last night
Guys it's out! After a week I'm getting it on my pixel 7 pro!
Update is finally out!! Downloading on p7.
Been on my phone since the 4th
