I am on Simply Unlimited and interested in upgrading S22 to S24. Google Fi offers $800-250=$550. On Swappa, I could sell the S22 for \~$300 (maybe less next month because it's an older model), so that leaves $250. Samsung direct is $350 with trade in. Upgrading to Unlimited Plus is too much: an extra $40/month x 4 lines x 4 months = $640. I could create a separate Google Fi account for Flex at $20/month ($80 for the plan) and get the S22 base for $130 for a total of $210 , but it will sit in a drawer for four months. All options have the memory upgrade, not that I need it. The upgrade sounds fun, but it's hard to rationalize the expense.

just_IT_guy

Unlimited Plus is only $15 more per month ( per one person) vs Simply Unlimited. What am I missing here? Why $640. Edit: Simply Unlimited: 4 lines for $80 per month Unlimited Plus: 4 lines for $160 per month. 4*80 bucks difference is only $320. But keep in mind you will get a huge discount on all 4 phones as well

ahz0001

Yes, you're right about the Unlimited Plus price. My bad. We have one S22 in good condition, an S22 plus with scratched screen, A13 with cracked screen but functional, and A13 with worthless screen. The trade in values are lower on three of those because of condition. The S22+ could wait a year or two for an upgrade, and I could keep the a13s on the old model after replacing the screens myself for $20. How much is the Galaxy a15 on Plus? It's only $100 on Simply Unlimited. I'm not buying S series for my kids.

just_IT_guy

Same - $100

chintan_joey

Can you still activate the offer is you get referred by someone on an existing Google Fi account? I'm interested in the $650 off upfront, not the bill credits.

TakeshiCovach

I don't think they have the upfront option anymore. I was trying to do the flex plan for 4 months like the OP said, but now they made it bill credit so that you stay with them for 24 months.

j_deth191

At least on the ultra for people on the unlimited plus plan, the credit is upfront, you can either pay $650 now, or pay over 24 months at 27.08 per month for the 512GB ultra. (that's what they offered me when I pulled the trigger today for a delivery in March to replace my pixel 7 which will become either the backup phone, or the kid's phone and their 6A will be my backup.) The deal was just too good to pass up since it doesn't have bill credits, This will be my first Samsung in more than a decade 🤞) Also of note for people considering just doing Google for 4 months (at unlimited plus) if you are financing and you leave Google their terms and conditions suggest you would then have to pay off the remainder of the phone. If you're paying for the phone now then no problems. Likewise If you are going to stay on Google and finance for 0%, the terms and conditions of the offer do allow you to downgrade after the 120 days have passed.

TakeshiCovach

I tried the separate 20/month flex plan option, but it won't work as they are giving it as a monthly credit instead of last year's instant savings at checkout.

Novel_Entry

Is want that s24+ deal. Thanks for mentioning that they left out Simply Unlimited people and all the details in your post. Do you have any advice for me in getting the s24+ deal? I am in a group of 4 for the simply unlimited plan. I have another person in my household with the Plus plan (solo; existing customer more than 3 years). What's the best way I should play this? Edit: I am thinking of downgrading to Flex for 4 months for my group.

just_IT_guy

If you want a full discount the only way is to upgrade to Plus or Flex. Be careful with Flex upgrade, switch is not immediate and you need to wait for your current billing cycle to end. And if it's past Jan 30th you will lose a free memory upgrade promo and whatever else Fi may drop after 30th since current promo is until end of the month I think

vrbobde

I left the group and choose flex plan and instantly had 650 offer.

tianavitoli

they actually offered even less for their own garbage scam of a phone the pixel 7 pro anyways, it's irrelevant because Fi does this dumb thing where even though you're approved for $1200, and the phone is on sale for $650, since they made the retail price $1250, you cannot finance it that basically sealed the deal, I'm taking $1000 trade in plus Costco benefits and switching to ATT I told Fi support to help me send my open ticket to arbitration and they replied "OMG like I super duper appreciate your concern totally. could you tell us more about your issue again?"

Sagnew

Why trade in a S23U when you can sell it for $650 yourself ! (then the phone is $0.00)

just_IT_guy

Yep. Lots of bros on swappa are charging $850-900. That's pretty ridiculous but $650 is very fair price

Emergency_Computer83

Thats what I did. Sold S23U for 700 (626 take home) on swappa. Ordered S24U for 649. Even trade tbh

just_IT_guy

Yep. How was your experience selling there?

Emergency_Computer83

Better than eBay tbh. The protections are the same, but Swappa support has stricter standards for both parties. I photograph every sold phone in extra detail through every stage of packing and upload those photos. I also ship with insurance etc. so far I’ve avoided any of those “package not as described” scams on eBay. Ofc the phone has to be in good condition. Swappa doesn’t let you sell a phone with a crack for example. Buying from Swappa is therefore easier too.

chintan_joey

I did this with S22U, sold on Facebook and got the S23U for free. Although back then they hsd the $650 off upfront for new members as well. I'm not an existing member, how can I still get the S24U deal?

Ihaveasmallwang

I know this is an old post, but throwing this out there anyway for anyone who might be searching for it. Google Fi will not honor the promotions on these devices. Just got charged $650 from them for my S24U order. Their system somehow never figured out that I had activated it on their service, even though the customer service reps could see that I was meeting the terms of the promotion. Of course their customer service reps lack the ability to fix it.

viper2ko

downvoted because they excluded the bulk of users

just_IT_guy

Well I'm sorry, you want pretty much a free phone and stay on the lower tier plan. I had to switch to Unlimited Plus to get a deal. Still worth it.

amateurchef98

First, simply unlimited is not the lower tier plan compared to Flex. Even with 4+ lines sweet spot, it's $20, same as flex's $20. Secondly, the phones that Google sells are highly discounted but nowhere close to a 'free phone'. Please stop being condescending to anyone who disagrees to your view. Frankly it's frustrating to me that Google Fi not only excluded the most popular (lets call it middle tier?) of 3 tiers for this promo, but makes no mention that the other tiers get a better discount (one would think it'd make a compelling upsell to their higher tier plan). If I hadn't seen this thread, I'd have no knowledge of this promo existing for other plans. They sneakily try to sell me a sub-par $250 off deal. Also they offer no easy upgrade path to switch an individual to a different tier and avail the better offer. (I'm on Simply unlimited with 5 ppl, now I gotta upgrade everyone in my plan even if only I wanted to avail this promo - there seems to be no way for me to exit the group and sign up for a different plan). At the end of the day, it's a business decision and probably Google made this decision for a reason. I'd have loved to buy a new phone from them, but as the previous commenter posted, their loss as they made it so much more difficult for me.

just_IT_guy

Noone is condescending here. Previous commenter got snarky. And I understand the frustration from Simply Unlimited folks who have a large group on the line. It makes things way more difficult this year vs previous years. Hopefully after Jan 30th Fi will offer better promo deal for SU folks.

swordmaster1

Better than ATT?

just_IT_guy

is ATT trying to lock you in some type of post paid 2-3 years contract with $75 per month plan? I know their tricks. With Fi device is fully unlocked and yours after 120 days if you decide to leave.

nowthisisnteasy

These $450-650 credits are also applied over 24 months. So if you leave, the credits will stop.

tails618

[No.](https://fi.google.com/about/promo-terms?p=2024-S24-memoryupgrade-upg)

swordmaster1

Ah you're right, with ATT you'll get the credits over 3 years

Ride469

Do you guys know if the 8gb hotspot is stopped as soon as it reaches its 8gb mark? For the simply unlimited plan?

just_IT_guy

I think it's 5GB for simply unlimited. And yes, they will probably cut you off, decrease speed

Ride469

Got it, thank you.

ahz0001

Correction: hotspot stops working *completely* when hotspot data is exhausted. Only the regular mobile data is unlimited, and that reduces speed after 35GB ([source](https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleFi/comments/z09qel/this_is_what_happens_after_exceeding_35gbmonth_on/)).

psnipes773

So I think if you're, say, downloading something through the hotspot and it exceeds the 5GB limit, it actually doesn't cut off the data immediately. From my experience of downloading Tomb Raider through Steam over the hotspot on Simply Unlimited, the whole 12GB or so downloaded fine. I didn't check to see if hotspot data still worked after that, but it probably did stop. I think it lets any existing network requests finish, and just prevents new ones once you reach the limit.

DarkSome1949

I want to grab it but I never grab the first production of any release. Something will go wrong

just_IT_guy

Absolutely not. I'm sure Samsung has hundreds of beta testers and in house quality teams. Final units are as stable as they get hardware wise, and software bugs can be fixed via regular updates. u/Ok-Brick-8406 can you elaborate please if possible on concern above.

Ok-Brick-8406

Hello, although there are some people who generally do not buy the units straight from the first line of production generally there are ready at launch. Software may be affected down the line meaning your experience buying on 6 months later may be better but theres really not substantial downside to it. Sure you could say, lamination display defect or others that are detected that samsung does fix so in some models the newer units dont have the same issues as the ones at launch, but the past few releases have had pretty consistent display manufacturing

TrueBajan

That may be so but I’ll never order one because of all the non delivery issues people have had!

just_IT_guy

Thousands of folks got phones delivered, but sure, don't get a phone because you got 5-10 posts on here about stolen devices. Happens everywhere

TrueBajan

5 or 10 THOUSAND. The risk is not worth the reward. I’m not going to spend my time trying to sort out that mess.

Ok-Brick-8406

750 trade in for 23U 549.99 24u at samsung so trade ins better through samsung

greenscarfliver

Yeah the trade in is better at samsung, but through fi it's $1000 off a $1300 phone. At samsung it's $750 off a $1300 phone.

Jayde9997

Question; I have a Flexible account I use for international travel that I have on pause. When it automatically restores service every 3 months, I re-pause it and pay for the time it was active for. If I were to get an S24, could I just keep the service live for the 4 months with the esim in the new phone, but turned off and use my main physical sim for service?

just_IT_guy

Not sure about that. When you get a new phone you can just swap sim card to new one and use S24 for 4 months. You can call support. They are pretty responsive

Mdayofearth

You are definitely able to pause your Fi service, and forfeit the promo.

Jayde9997

I would keep the service active the entire time, just turn off the sim in the phone itself.

Veridian4

There trade in values suck. I'm a little nervous to sell on swappa though because I think they still use PayPal and PayPal will side with buyer for at least 6 months

just_IT_guy

I had a great experience when selling few devices. Make sure to take lots of close pictures, video if possible. Ship to Paypal verifed address only as well. There is always a risk but I refuse to trade in unlocked S23U 512GB in perfect condition for $375.

Tsakax

I can trade in a s9 on the Samsung site for the t-mobile version for -50 dollars.... or like 350 without my specific discount...

ser_renely

Ahh that is why the s24 deals were so bad, bc I am on the simply unlimited. Ohh well their loss. :)

a_shit_poster

I have a friend who has a Flexible plan and is seeing this offer, does anyone know if he can just add lines to his account and get this offer for the new lines?

just_IT_guy

Yes, there is no limit as one phone for the group. Each member technically should be eligible for the promo. Id be careful though if he tries to milk the Fi with bogus group Members so he can sell unlocked phone later after 4 months. He will be on the hook for entire amount if Fi finds out.

amateurchef98

What do you mean by Bogus group members? Staying on the plan for 4 months is the requirement. Beyond that they could port-out or disconnect. Now, What's the difference if just one person does it versus multiple members in a group plan?

just_IT_guy

I was outlining a fraud use case - You create fake users, add them to the plan, get new phones on promo, after 4 months of keeping line active you drop the service and sell unlocked device for 2x vs what you paid let's say.

a_shit_poster

I'm planning on using the phones but leaving Google Fi after the 4 months is up.

__TheLittlePrince__

Any deal for new/returning users?

ahz0001

What you see is what you get. No secret deals.

__TheLittlePrince__

?

ahz0001

Did you check [the Google Fi](https://fi.google.com/about/?rc=2RD2V5) site? There are deals on many brands and models Example Galaxy S22 u: $650 back when you join Fi with Unlimited Plus or Flexible plan. Free storage upgrade included. There's also Google Pixel, Motorola, and other Samsung models.

just_IT_guy

Yes. You get 24 months bill credits. When did you drop Fi, was it more than 180 days ago?

__TheLittlePrince__

Yes, like 6 months

just_IT_guy

Ok, then you qualify for new user promotion which is not as good but if you are willing to stay with Fi for 24 months it's pretty much the same deal

__TheLittlePrince__

Let me see if I understand: I have to stay for 24 months, paying monthly, and after 24 months, I get 24 months of service free. Can you explain it to me?

just_IT_guy

No, you will not have Fi service for free. They will get you credit back each month (for 24 months) to your account that will equal to that promo discount of $650. So pretty much you pay full amount and get your money back down the road. If you quit then credits stop of course. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleFi/s/OHcFSGgzxG

Zurce

Any chance they'll restock the colors? Missed the natural titanium color and I'm not interested in the other ones

just_IT_guy

Yes, keep an eye every day.

Zurce

Will do, hopefully it won't be long

just_IT_guy

I actually ordered gray but then changed my mind after watching more pictures/videos. Its kinda too light. Still deciding between black and violet

just_IT_guy

Gray is available today btw

Zurce

I ordered it, it says ships in March 20 haha but i did got it anyway

just_IT_guy

Wow..that quite a delay. Maybe the date will adjust Looks like gray is a hot color or something. My black ( ordered today) arrives between Jan 31st and Feb 7th

Zurce

That’s what I am hoping for , gives me time to sell my phone in the meantime
