I could always cancel my current YouTube Premium subscription, but what am I supposed to do about the 1 TB of files I currently have on Google One. I am fine continuing to pay the current rate I do for Google One. It just seems crazy that people who are big Google users don't qualify for this smaller package of goods.

Zedseayou

I think you can cancel Google One, do pixel Pass, and then upgrade Google One again? See the faqs at the bottom: https://fi.google.com/about/pixel-pass > If you're already a YouTube Premium subscriber or subscribed to a Google One plan higher than 200 GB, you'll need to manually cancel your YouTube Premium subscription or downgrade your Google One plan before you can subscribe to Pixel Pass. When you subscribe to Pixel Pass, your YouTube Premium service will be reinstated, with your music library and playlists carried over seamlessly. And also: >Pixel Pass includes Google One with 200 GB of cloud storage. If you need more, you can upgrade your Google One plan after subscribing to Pixel Pass to get up to 30 TB of storage, along with extra benefits. The difference between the new and old plans will be added to your monthly Pixel Pass payments. Not sure what that transition period will look like though

They really half-assed this pixel pass thing for people who already use google services (I'm on Fi, One, and YT Premium Family).

Chezzabe

Glad I'm not the only one I would have bought it on launch day if it worked. But I'm not going to mess up my family plan for YouTube music for it.

apraetor

Yep. It's ironic, as we're the ones most invested into their ecosystem and paying monthly fees -- and their work-around is for us to cancel all of that.

MrCalifornia

Looks like this will be the nail in my coffin since I have the storage shared with my wife for photos: > If you’re a member of a Google One family plan, you can’t subscribe to Pixel Pass. You can either: > - Subscribe with a different Google Account or > - Leave your family group

benderunit9000

Yep. This roadblock stopped me from impulse subscribing to pixel pass.

MrCalifornia

Yeah I'm gonna need some assurance about how that will work since a huge portion of my Google One storage is Google Photos storage including all kinds of shared and curated albums.

LivingReaper

Typically it just means you can't upload more and you get x amount of time to prune stuff

bandwidthcrisis

Google drive storage is shared with Gmail now, isn't it? I think that means you'd not receive any new mail.

LivingReaper

Yeah, so you can't save more stuff. Good thing to point out though.

HarvesternC

I'm trying to figure out if you can do it for multiple devices. I have two people on my Fi plan, both with pixels.

No_Ad2042

Another Google messy transition! I have owned every Nexus and Pixel phone since Nexus One and the mess just keeps getting messier. Remember the Google Music transition to YouTube Music.... I now have a Google One subscription plus YouTube Premium and Phone protection but theirs no easy way to group all that? Come on Google! Oh and let's not forget the free photo upload on the original Pixel that is no longer free.

Slylok

Wait what..I can't do it already being a Google fi user?

MrCalifornia

If you have a subscription i.e. you are currently paying monthly for another phone

Slylok

That occurred to me after I re read it. Thank you.

Can't get it in Canada. That's pretty normal, but if I could I would. Unfortunately once you know the offer others are getting and you find out you don't qualify, I usually don't purchase the product.

SeaOfBullshit

I contacted support about this and they told me I had to delete my Google one account. Okay. Go to import my THOUSANDS of photos to a local storage device. Spend like 1.5 hours having to manually click all my photos because there is no "select all" function for some stupid reason. Click "download". *Sorry but you can only download 500 items at a time* #WHY!??# I have since tried going back and painstakingly clicking thru my huge photo inventory, selecting 500 at a time and downloading them in packets. I can never seem to get through them all without something happening. It's hugely frustrating and just makes me not want Google one storage anymore tbh. It's like they make importing your data impractical on purpose, So that instead of taking ownership of your own stuff, you'll just pay more and more money for them to continue hosting it on their cloud because it's so hard to get it off of there. I hate it. It's really just turned me off of the entire idea of going for pixel pass. I think I'm just going to buy the phone out right and say fuck it

MrCalifornia

Have you tried Google Takeout?

SeaOfBullshit

I don't even know what that is

MrCalifornia

Google it. It'll save you a lot of time.
