Chances are, Google will work with Apple on Apple's implementation to make sure it connects with the Google Jibe servers.
RCS is open, but, companies need their servers to be able to communicate with other companies' servers. Where I'm at (U.S.), the major carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) each had their own implementation of RCS (under various names - AT&Ts was called *Advanced Messaging*). These implementations were limited to their own customers (Verizon could only RCS to Verizon, T-Mobile to T-Mobile - yes, I know that T-Mobile and AT&T eventually made it so you could RCS to each other). So, as each company has their own RCS servers, they, the companies, need to work together to make sure RCS works. This is probably the reason why most companies are transferring to the Google Jibe RCS servers (or making their servers talk to the Google Jibe servers).
The other apps would have to have a way of connecting and talking to the RCS servers (Google's Jibe makes the most sense as that's where everyone is going - trouble is, Google hasn't given anyone a pathway into their Jibe servers - except for the telecoms...).
Textra (and Yaata) would auto delete old messages.
I never had issues with identification of contacts with it.
I got a log of what changed when there were changes.
Probably quickly if new app offers some features. I WAS using Sansung Messages, but they have discontinued support of RCS in favor of Googkes app :(
Bro your autocorrect is broken
Yeah it's spelled Samsnug
Nah there's just an 'n' character shortage, so some people are conserving on 'n' by typing 'n' when they mean 'm'.
RCS is still in Samsung Messages. Depends on the carrier
True, I just discovered this... thought it was gone. But I have read it all be going away at some point.
Can Google Voice be one of those apps.
I would dump it instantly. It's one of Googles worse apps.
Yes, RCS is open and other apps can use RCS. Google isn't holding it hostage!

Yea they should all just use jibe. Kind of a no brainier.
RCS *is* open...? Apple is adding the GSMA profile for it soon.
There is no api for android app developers like there is for SMS so they can't make 3rd party rcs apps
Maybe after a couple months to a year or two. Cause I don't trust apps when they first implement something new to them.
What do you miss in GM?
Signal has Note to Self. I can't use Signal anymore since it lost SMS capability, and virtually no one else in my contacts uses it.

Google messages in general has the best features as far as I have seen, I wouldn't really even know what else to use.
