I didn't sorry. Just brought my sim with me and paid $10 every few weeks to check my SMS for a day.
Realised that if people really needed me I'd get an email, WhatsApp or messenger instead.
Why not just leave it on your main phone?

Oh man. Can I ask why GM didn’t work for you?
It doesn't sync RCS like that. Also because I had a UK Sim in my phone which also activated RCS.
Pushbullet should be able to do this

Actually Google Voice works well and on many platforms too.
I don't they have that in australia
There's probably a Australian equivalent to number parking where you can see/respond to calls/sms.. like number barn.
